EveryTeacher Grant

• Statewide Teacher Quality Grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

• Grant Awardee: SD Department of Education.

• Primary Partner: SD Board of Regents.

• Grant Period: October 1, 2002 – September 30, 2005.

• Goal: Establish a statewide system for developing the capacity of South Dakota’s teaching force.

EveryTeacher Grant

• Theory of Action– Paraprofessionals gain the knowledge

and skills associated with “highly qualified” personnel.

• Parapro Exam Preparation

• STEP Academy for Paraprofessionals

• Para Course Award

– Teacher preparation students require basic content knowledge and teaching skills through a baccaluareate program aligned with state and national standards and assessments.

EveryTeacher Grant

• Theory of Action– First year teachers are supported

through new teacher induction program and alternative certification teachers are supported through mentoring to encourage growth.

– Teacher engages in professional development addressing content knowledge and pedagogy for their continued professional growth.

Theory of Action – Umbrella

Objective 5: To establish a consortium for leading the advancement of quality teaching and learning relative to the five core propositions of the NBPTS.

Objective 6: To inform policymakers and other constituent groups of the development of teacher quality initiatives.

Rationale for Connecting EveryTeacher and MAPLE Efforts

• Takes advantage of a statewide alliance already supportive and invested in the goal of the EveryTeacher grant.

• Responds collaboratively to Objectives 5 & 6 of the EveryTeacher grant without duplication.

• Affords EveryTeacher and MAPLE the opportunity to maximize resources for meeting a shared goal.

• Strengthens K-20 relationships among partners involved in teacher preparation and development.

The Teacher Development Planning

Team (TDPT)

• It is the role/purpose of the TDPT to:

– Offer input and feedback to the MAPLE Principal Partner Board regarding teacher preparation and professional development for SD’s teaching force.

– With the support of the MAPLE Principal Partner Board, plan and implement professional development activities that support the goals of the grant and foster collaboration.

– Serve as champions of the EveryTeacher activities and the improvement of teacher quality in SD.
