Please take time to read the newsletter AND send Doug your e-mail address so you can receive “Tiger Insights” on a regular basis. As you might remember, Houston evacuated ahead of Hurricane Rita in 2005, with almost 3.5 million folks on the move. Our industry (refining, pipelines, terminals, distributors and retailers) found out about the evacuation at the same time the public did. Needless to say, it was a mess, thousands of vehicles stranded with no fuel, retail locations completely out of fuel, water and ice, a disaster without the friggin’ hurricane ever making landfall. In addition, there were a lot of medical needs folks evacuated by bus, also a disaster and sadly, a number of people died as a result. Our Governor as any good politician will do, called for a task force to study the problems, and of course, we collectively as an industry told them we could make it work if the state would include us in their plans and communications. As a result, the Governor issued an Executive Order creating what we now refer to as the State Fuel Team. We normally activate 6 days ahead of the expected landfall and are located within the State Operation Center. The bunker, as we refer to it is approximately 45 feet underground with the latest in communications. This is where the President and Governor visited on Monday. In 2006, we spent thousands of hours putting together a plan that was workable for the people that self-evacuate but also for the medical special needs evacuated by bus. Another aspect added(after the absolute disaster in New Orleans) was a total change in state policy. Thus, the State of Texas will not leave anyone behind that wants to evacuate but can’t get out on their own for whatever reason. This also was accomplished with buses. The end result was an evacuation ahead of Hurricane Gustav of approximately 325,000 Texans and another 50,000 from Louisiana. While we had retail outages, those were addressed as quickly as possible and I’m proud to say we didn’t receive 1 phone call from local officials telling our team they had evacuees stuck on the side of the road without fuel. So when you see a storm brewing in the Gulf with a possible Texas strike, you’ll know where I’m at!! Take care all and look forward to seeing everyone soon at the SweetCorn Fest. The Alumni Board is VERY excited to have Doug Gee as the new activities director at ADM. Already he is busy building relationships and has been very active with our group, even attending

our reunion and Hall of Fame event (This is a first!). Doug has created a newsletter “Tiger Insights” that you will find within the pages of our “Tiger Tracks”.

He hopes to create a database of e-mail addresses for the alumni so the newsletter can be sent electronically to all of us and keep us informed about the numerous activities

and great people at our school. Please take time to read the newsletter ANDsend Doug your e-mail address so you can receive “Tiger Insights” on a regular basis.

As you might remember, Houston evacuated ahead of HurricaneRita in 2005, with almost 3.5 million folks on the move. - PRESIDENT’S LETTER -A great edition to enjoy - lots of pictures celebrating the ADM Alumni Golf Outing,Reunion and Hall of Fame.

Another summer winds down and I look forward to next year and my 40th class reunion.Although I know the 20 year reunion was justa few years ago!!! We held a whole weekendevent with an evening at the Sportman’s Club(in honor of Mr. Gunderson), Saturdayevening with dinner at Hillcrest and finishedthe weekend with Sunday in the Adel Park.

My memory has failed me some however. After my last letter where I shared memoriesof biology class, I received a call from Ellen Stineclarifying that she was not afraid of dissectingthe frog, after all, she WAS a farm girl. Shehad learned from her father that animalsshould never suffer and she wanted to be surethe frog would not. Mr. Gunderson assuredher and she was fine. Thought I’d best set thatrecord straight!

Anyway, hope we can top our 40th Reunionnext year with the same gusto! Write or callme if you have ideas on what you’d like to do!

Message From the Activities Director: I would like to start by introducing myself. My name is Doug Gee. I grew up in Independence, IA, received my BA from UNI and my masters in Administration from Drake University. I have been a teacher/coach for 16 years and also an athletic director for two years. I have been a head football coach 15 years at East Central Miles, Altoona, WI, North Tama and Waterloo West. I have also coached wrestling, softball, track and ms basketball.

I am very excited about the opportunities we have here at ADM high School. I believe this is the perfect fit for me personally. I would like to share with you some of my vision for ADM Athletics. I want a school and a community that is excited about their high school sports and activities. I see ADM High School being the model school where all the students are involved in activities and they have high expectations for themselves and their teammates. I see every athlete at ADM High School involved in a year round strength and conditioning program, while they compete in 3-4 sports. I want every school in the state to

be asking what are they doing at ADM high school to be successful in every sport.

5. Community outreach to the ADM learning community, ADM high School neighbors, and the communities of Adel, Desoto and Minburn

Obstacles to Our Goals: 1. Funding resources 2. Retention of quality coaches 3. Athletes specializing in specific sports 4. Lack of information on past alumni and a

disconnect due to lack of staying in touch

. In the future issues I will be updating you on the progress in all these areas and other.

There are three purposes of the National Tiger Club and the Tiger Letterwinner Club:

1. First and foremost, they are two organizations to reconnect all ADM High school alumni, supporters and letter

School Athletic Department 2. To start an endowment with the interest

being used to help support our yearly

3. Give an avenue for alumni, supporters and

donations- monetary, time, labor, etc. towards our department, an avenue to do so. Any monetary donations from this will be placed into a single endowment account to accrue and have only the interest used for support of the ADM High School athletic budget.
