Players from the mid-AmericAn stAtes, Tennessee and Alabama were on hand to help support tournament direct, Ted Smethers in his first venture as tourney host. The park has a nice 9 hole course laid out. The targets were small sand boxes (minus sand) but someday they hope to have Pole Ho les. (Con 1 t)

Rose Bowl 1980 As you probably know Scott Zimmerman did it again ·

Mr. Overall · the first time the title has been repeated. The real surprise was Jeff Watson from Sarasota · the runner up and the winner of Golf. But the biggest surprise of all was little John Greensage of Texas. The Dennis the Menace look alike won SCF and placed third in distance. Another surprise was Monroe's not winning SCF as was predicted by the World Championship prognostication. His TRC record is still good.

Joe Youngman won distance and the Coloradicals took freestyle. The DOC was hot with Jerry Gere and Mark Hom from Lacy Park winning the final against Bonapane/Duvall.

In the women's division it was Cindi Birch all the way with Jo Ann Loftus right on her heels.

Congratulations go to Wally Free of Pasgagula for sweep· ing the Masters freestyle. Also from the South in Ca. was Bonnie Mills of Augusta.

Distance went to local favorite, Mark Tucker, with Mark London close on his heels. Monroe teamed up to win DDC and Freestyle with Jerry Robinson and Stuart· Arnold res· pectively.

Over $400 in prizes was donated by local merchants and the tournament was co-sponsored by the American Cancer Society and a local FM station. The Cancer people also had special fastbacks printed up with the Cancer Eagle.

Section Ill Ultimate The sectionols in Tuscaloosa saw some fine teams at

their best. Many of the teams were a conglomerate of their areas. Five teams showed up for the Round Robin format put together by Carl Brown of Auburn. The teams that showed up were Alabama, Auburn, Mobile, Huntsville and Tennessee. (Actually East Tennessee.)

The team that gained most respect was Huntsville. With 7 men and two women they outscored the other teams they played until the first half. Then it was all over, but they only lost by 2 or 3 points in each game. Lots of talent on the team.

Tennessee and Auburn will both be heavy contenders after more play. They showed good strength but lock total teamwork. Many newcomers on both teams.

When It got down to the wire it was Mobile and Alabama. This was Soma's last chance to cinch the title as most of their team graduates this year. Mobile showed everyone what togetherness and practice con do.

Everyone in the Alabama, Tennessee area wishes them lots of luck in the Regional play-offs. They will face some tough competition from Texas, Atlanta and Florida.
