Welcome to Taylors Engineering Fair December 2012!
Taylors University Engineering Fair December 2012 has a simple goal;
a plaorm for Taylors School of Engineering students to display and
showcase their respecve project work to the public. With innovave
praccal work, students may grasp the inner ropes of working as a
team to produce quality projects on a ght budget and strict meline.
Taylors School of Engineering adopts the Project-Based
Learning approach to equip its students with
knowledge, technical and management skills while
sustaining high levels of engagement and movaon.
With this, it produces graduates who are ready to take
on industrial challenges and contribute posively to the
community.

About the Organiser
The Society of Engineering & Technology (SET) is the
prevailing student associaon in Taylors University. SET
aims at organizing events and acvies that contribute to
the overall development of engineering students to be well
-rounded individuals who can posively contribute to the
community at large.
SET also has a goal of promong engineering as an
interesng career opon to aspiring students and also as
an agent of posive change to the enre community.
Constantly striving to achieve greater heights, SET manages
events and acvies in Taylors University.

General Information
1. Taylors Engineering Fair December 2012 (henceforth called the Fair) is organised by the
Society of Engineering & Technology (SET) with Taylors School of Engineering, Taylors
University(henceforth called the Organiser).
2. The details of the Fair are:

3. The Fair is compulsory for all students from the School of Engineering, Taylors University
undertaking the following modules:
- ENG1533 Engineering Design & Ergonomics
- ENG2513 Muldisciplinary Engineering Design
- ENG2523 Engineering Design & Innovaon
- CHE3513 Chemical Engineering Group Project 1
- EEE3923 Electrical Engineering Group Project 1
- MEC3913 Mechanical Engineering Group Project 1
- ENG4916 Final Year Engineering Project 1
4.
By aending the Fair, the parcipants consent to appearing in related promoonal materials
and to have their names, quotes, photos or videos used for the purposes of promoon by the
Organiser, without receiving any remuneraon or indemnity.
5. Whilst all care will be taken to ensure the general safety of all parcipants in the Fair, the
Organiser cannot be held responsible for any unforeseen incidents during the Fair.
6. No correspondence will be entertained regarding either the Fair or items stated in the
Guidebook. In the unlikely event of a dispute, the Organisers decision shall be nal. TheOrganiser reserves the right to amend, modify, cancel or withdraw the Fair at any me without
noce.

Rules & Regulations
1. All rules and regulaons as outlined in this guidebook will be strictly adhered to and no special
allocaons will be allowed.
2. Organisers reserve the right to disqualify teams who do not comply with the strict standards of
operaons or deduct marks from their respecve Module as deemed t.
3.
No food and drinks are allowed at the booth and exhibion area at all mes. Exempons applyfor drinking water only.
4. There must be a minimum of two (2) team members at respecve booth at all mes. Any booth
that is le unaended will be closed and parcipants are disqualied.
5. There will not be a specic lunch hour but students are encouraged to proceed for their lunch
during the judges lunch break.
6. No refreshments will be provided by the Organisers.
7. All borrowed materials/items must be returned at the end of the Fair to the Organiser in good
condion.
8. Parcipants are not allowed to change or alter the arrangements of their respecve booth in
any way.
9.
Parcipants are also not allowed to swap booth posions at any me during the Fair.
10. Parcipants must work in the area provided and are not allowed to exhibit any of their project
outside the predetermined area.
11. Aendance will be taken at random mings by the Organisers and absentees will not be
awarded marks for their respecve Modules.

Attire
1. All parcipants are required to wear the following specic are:
a. Engineering T-shirt (provided by the Organiser)
b. Long Pants
c. Covered Shoes
2. Failure to comply with the dress code would lead to the disqualicaon from the Fair.
3. A free Engineering T-shirt will be given to each registering team member in the Fair. Team
members are allowed to pick the size of the T-shirt and indicate it in the Registraon Form(s).
No changes are allowed aer the Registraon Form(s) is submied.

Categories & AwardsTaylors Engineering Fair December 2012 Awards
1. In conjuncon with the Fair, a compeon will be held to determine the best projects in
specied categories.
2. Students will be divided into ve categories and are only eligible for parcipaon in awards as
oered in their respecve category.
3. CATEGORY 1, 2 and 3 students will have a selecon of three (3) awards and each registering
team are required to select a minimum of one (1) award and a maximum of two (2) awards to
compete in.
4. CATEGORY 4 and 5 students are not eligible to select awards and are automacally in the
running for the compeon for Taylors Capstone Project Prize and Taylors Research Prize
respecvely. The top 3 projects across disciplines for CATEGORY 4 and the top 3 projects in
each discipline for CATEGORY 5 will be awarded.
5.
A weightage of 10% from total Module marks will be accounted for from the average marks ofthe judges scoresheets from respecve awards.
6. Judging for awards would be held during the Fair and teams/individuals are expected to be
ready at all mes for judging. No delays or special requests for arrangement of judging me
would be entertained.
Categories and Awards7.
Students taking ENG1533 Engineering Design & Ergonomics will be assigned CATEGORY 1.
8. Students taking ENG2513 Muldisciplinary Engineering Design will be assigned CATEGORY 2.
9. Students taking ENG2523 Engineering Design & Innovaon will be assigned CATEGORY 3.
10. Students taking CHE3513 Chemical Engineering Group Project 1 or EEE3923 Electrical
Engineering Group Project 1 or MEC3913 Mechanical Engineering Group Project 1 will be
assigned CATEGORY 4.
11. Students taking ENG4916 Final Year Engineering Project 1 will be assigned CATEGORY 5.

12. The awards per category are listed below and students from the specied category are not
eligible to compete in awards of another category.
Prizes13. For CATEGORY 1, 2 and 3 prizes will be given for each award to the highest scoring team. In the
case of a e with two or more teams aaining the same scores, the judges will only pick one
winner as per their discussion.

An award that is given to a project that reects its friendly approach to the

An award that is given to a project that reects its best innovave design
outcome in terms of its original approach, original creavity, original design
and original working mechanism / process

An award that is given to the best engineering research group project that
reects the details, facts, theories, assumpons, specicaons, compari-
sons, variables, procedures, conclusions, recommendaons in a project.

An award that is given to the best engineering research project that reects
the details, facts, theories, assumpons, specicaons, comparisons, varia-
bles, procedures, conclusions, recommendaons in a project.

14. For CATEGORY 4, three (3) prizes would be given to the teams that ranks in the top 3 of the
category.
15. For CATEGORY 5, nine (9) prizes would be given to the individuals that ranks in the top 3 in the
respecve eld of Chemical Engineering Project, Electrical & Electronic Project and Mechanical
Engineering Project.
16. Judges and Organisers reserve the right to withdraw or hold back an award if there are no
projects deserving of the award despite aaining the highest scores.
17. Prizes for each award would comprise of custom-made crystal medals and goodie bags only.
Organisers reserves the right to change or alter the prizes awarded at Organisers discreon.
18. A maximum of ve (5) crystal medals would be issued to the winning team. For teams that
consists of more that ve members, addional crystal medals can be ordered at an addional
charge of RM 30.00 per piece, and will be delivered within three (3) months from the date of
order.
19. A maximum of ve (5) goodie bags would be issued to the winning team. For teams that
consists of more that ve members, there will be no addional allocaon for goodie bags.
Awards Presentaon Ceremony20. All winning teams/individuals must be present during the Awards Presentaon Ceremony to
receive their prizes. Teams/Individuals that are absent from the Awards Presentaon Ceremony
would be disqualied immediately and the prize would go to the next highest scoring team/
individual.
21. Prizes would only be issued at the Awards Presentaon Ceremony to team members present.
Team members are not allowed to collect prizes on behalf of their absent team members and
no compensaon or prizes would be issued to absent team members.
22. Prizes issued are not exchangeable for cash or returnable.
Judging23. Judging for each award would be done by a minimum of two panelist consisng of one Taylors
School of Engineering lecturer and one external professional.
24.
Judges scores are nal and non negoable. No request for appeal would be entertained.

25. All team members must be present during judging. Incomplete or absent teams would be
immediately disqualied.
26. For parcipants in CATEGORY 1, 2 and 3, teams are allowed to use any mulmedia tool for their
respecve presentaon. However, Organisers are not obligated to provide or assist in obtaining
any items that are required in the presentaon for parcipants.
27. For parcipants in CATEGORY 1, 2 and 3 , teams are judged on the following areas:
- Aspects pertaining to respecve awards
- Clarity of queson & answer session
- Presentaon skills
- Overall project achievement
28. For parcipants in CATEGORY 4 and 5, teams/individuals are compulsory to present using an A1
size technical poster. Teams/individuals who do not produce the A1 poster will be immediately
disqualied and no marks would be awarded for their respecve module.
29. CATEGORY 5 parcipants must submit their posters to their respecve Project Supervisors by
the 14th of December 2012. Posters must be in perfect condions and if in any case damaged
before submission to respecve Project Supervisors, marks will be deducted accordingly.
30. For parcipants in CATEGORY 4 and 5, teams/individuals are judged on the following areas:
-Project/Research Background
- Project/Research Objecves
- Literature Review
Research Methodology
- Relevance & Accuracy of Findings/Recommendaons
- Ability to Respond to and Address Technical Queries (Q&A)
- Presentaon Skills
- Clarity of Poster
- Overall Research Level Achieved

Registration Terms & Conditions
Registraon1. All teams must complete the Registraon Form(s) and Declaraon Form in order for the
Organisers to process their registraon.
2. All informaon lled into the Registraon Form(s) must be accurate as no correcons are
allowed aer submission.
3. Registraon Form(s) and Declaraon Form(s) are obtainable from respecve Module
Coordinators.
Fee4. A fee of RM 30.00 will be imposed on each registering team member for the Fair.
Eg. If a team of ve members are registering,
the total registraon fee is RM 30.00 X 5 = RM 150.00
5. Complete fee has to be paid during submission of Registraon Form(s) and Declaraon Form, as
registraon will be considered void if payment is not made.
6. Teams who fail to comply with the rules and regulaons as set out by the Organisers to
maintain the standards of the Fair will immediately be disqualied and evicted from the Fair
without any compensaon of the registraon fee.

Submission9. Registraon is open from 24th September 2012 to 5th October 2012 only.
10. Deadline for submission of Registraon Form(s) and Declaraon Form together with complete
payment is due on the 5th of October 2012 at 1.00pm. Late submissions will not be
entertained.
11. Submissions are to be made to specic SET Members only. A schedule of submission me and
locaon will be released on 24th of September 2012.
12. The Organisers reserve the right to reject any incomplete registraons as deemed necessary.
Special Case13. All informaon submied in the Registraon Form(s) will be used at the Fair and teams are
required to follow the informaon submied. Unapproved changes made during the Fair on
teams own accord will lead to immediate disqualicaon.
14. Teams that would like to alter or amend any informaon would have to present a Leer of
Acknowledgement & Approval from their respecve Project Supervisor AND Module
Coordinator before requesng for alteraons and amendments.
15. A fee of RM 20.00 will be imposed for each eld of alteraon that is requested by teams.
16. The last date for alteraon and amendments will be on 31st October 2012.
