    Three Main Groups of Skills

    Object

    motor-Behaviors that consist in manipulating

    objects or performing a procedure

Language motor-Activities or behavior concerned with

    communication

    Feeling motor-Concerned with feelings through

    movement.Klausmeier and Ripple 1971

    Psychomotor Domain

The psychomotor domain includesphysical movement, coordination, anduse of the motor-skill areas.

    Development of these skills requires

practice and is measured in terms ofspeed, precision, distance, procedures,or techniques in execution.

The seven major categories in Simpson's

psychomotor domain are listed from thesimplest behavior to the most complex:

Perception The learner uses sensory cues to

guide motor activity. This ranges fromsensory stimulation, through cueselection, to translation.

physical, and emotional sets.(sometimes called mindsets)

    Guided Responce

The early stages in learning a complex skill

that includes imitation and trial and error.Adequacy of performance is achieved bypracticing.

MechanismThis is the intermediate stage in learning a

    complex skill. Learned responses have

become habitual and the movements canbe performed with some confidence andproficiency

Complex Overt ResponceThe skillful motor acts that involve complex

movement patterns. This categoryincludes performing without hesitation, andautomatic performance.

AdaptationSkills are well developed and the

individual can modify movementpatterns to fit special requirements orrespond to specific problem situations

particular situation or specific problem.Learning outcomes emphasize creativitybased upon highly developed skills.
