Word of the Day:Coinages ending in -vore are all the rage now, as foodie-ism gains new converts, but carnivore can rest on secure laurels as the original noun characterizing those whose diet includes or focuses on a particular thing. In this case, the thing is meat, that part of the word being from Latin carn-, "meat, flesh." The noun dates only to the 19th century, though the adjective carnivorous appears much earlier.
