Billboard is an international news weekly magazine devoted to music and the music industry.Billboard is one of the oldest trade magazines in the world. Billboard maintains severalinternationally recognized music charts that track the most popular songs and albums invarious categories on a regular weekly basis. The two most notable charts are the BillboardHot 100, which ranks the top 100 songs from any genre. The Billboard Hot 100 is based ondigital sales, radio airplay and internet streaming data.

Billboard was founded in Cincinnati on November 1 1894 by William H Donaldson andJames Hennegan. Billboard, originally titled Billboard Advertising, was a trade paper for thebill posting industry, hence the magazine name.

Within a few years of Billboards founding, it began to carry news of outdoor amusements, amajor consumer of billboard space. Eventually Billboard became the paper of record forcircuses, amusement parks, carnivals, fairs, vaudeville and other live entertainment.Billboard began coverage of motion pictures in 1909 and radio in 1920.

Billboard began publishing music charts, with the development of the jukebox industry in the1930s. Originally, there were only three genre-specific charts: Pop, Rhythm & Blues andCountry & Western.

At the start of 1961, Billboard was renamed Billboard Music Week, this now meant that thepublication was now entirely devoted to the music industry. Two years late the name

    changed again to Billboard.

Billboard is published by the American entertainment publishing company PrometheusGlobal Media, it attracts more than four million readers each month in more than 100countries. The magazine is priced slightly higher than other music magazines at 5.50 in theUK, due to the shipping and importing from the U.S.

71% of Billboards readers are between the ages of 16 30 years old. 82% of the readersare college graduates.
