Leather Scrap Necklace

Materials - Hole punch - A little sturdier leather - Chain - Jump rings



First I decided to make myself a necklace I cut out the shapes I wanted


You will need to make some sort of plan of how you want the necklace to look like before you start to assemble it

Otherwise things could get a little confusing and you will end up punching holes where there should be no holes


I used head pins to make the pendant a bit more stable at the top


After I finished the necklace I also made a pair of earrings

I think I like the earrings the most

Lashed Rhinestone And Leather Bracelet


Materials

- 24 inches Greek leather cord

- 6-12 inches glass rhinestone chain

- 48 inches 5-ply waxed linen cord

- 1 each button

- side flush cutter

- scissors

- ruler

- needle



Making wrapped bracelets just got easier because this simple lashing

technique takes just minutes to learn You can combine leather cord

with rhinestone chain for a sophisticated style or use ball chain and

leather for an industrial look

Step 2 Create a loop to match

the button

Fold the length of Greek leather

cord in half to form the button

loop Size the loop so it will slip

over the button Use waxed linen

cord and a simple overhand knot

to secure the button loop

Follow these steps

Step 1 Gather the tools and

supplies to make a lashed

rhinestone and leather bracelet



Step 3 Secure the button loop

Align the waxed linen cord tail with the

leather cord and tightly wrap

approximately 10 lashes (this should

measure about 38 inch)

Step 5 Finish lashing the rhinestone

chain to the leather cord

Step 4 Begin lashing the rhinestone


Align the rhinestone chain with the

leather cord and begin lashing Use the

waxed linen cord to tightly lash around

the leather cord and between each

rhinestone setting



Continue lashing the rhinestone chain to the leather cord Check the

length for fit the rhinestone portion of the bracelet should be one inch

shorter than bracelet size

Clip off any unneeded rhinestone and secure by adding 10 additional

tightly-wrapped lashes (about 38 inch)

Step 6 Add and secure the button

Slide the button loop onto the waxed

linen cord and one leather strand

Secure the button in place by adding 10


Use a sewing needle to stitch the linen

cord tail back through the final lashing

and cut off the excess



Step 7 Finish the bracelet with an

overhand knot

Finish the bracelet with a single

overhand knot and clip off any excess

leather Slip the loop over the button

and the bracelet is complete

You can combine leather cord with rhinestone chain for a

sophisticated style or use ball chain and leather for an industrial look

This pattern is easily adaptable create single double or triple-

wrapped bracelets using either rhinestone chain or ball chain You

can vary the color of the leather rhinestones and waxed linen cord

To some chainmail look so manly but heres something where

chainmail can be funky and stylish Learn to combine chainmail and

leather to make a bracelet that can be both for men and women

The tutorial is catered for beginners or anyone who likes to learn a

simple chainmail weave It has in-depth instructions and ultra-clear

Materials Needed 4mm inside dia 18ga Jump rings

6mm inside dia 18ga Jump rings

3mm Pearls

Black Leather round cord

Tools Needed 2 Flat or chain nose pliers

Scissor

Skill Level Beginner


Step 1

First lets create a Centipede chainmail pattern

1 - Insert a 3mm pearl into a 6mm jump ring Lets call this ring A

2 - Repeat figure 1 and lets call this ring B You then place B under A

Connect A amp B with a 4mm jump ring

3 - Repeat 1 so youll have a ring C

Place C under B and connect B amp C

with 4mm jump rings


Keep repeating the steps until

you have enough and youve

reached your desired length

As you can see here on this

photo I have tied a cord

leather on the 1st ring just to

keep the chainmail form


When you reach your desired

length connect your last ring

without a pearl

Step 2

Prepare your leather cord thats

about 2x + additional 5 - 6

inches more the length of your

chainmail

Fold the cord and make a loop

on the folded area by tying a

knot


Step 3

Now insert both ends of the

cord into the ring A like so

The knot will anchor the cord

and prevent it from slipping thru

the ring


Then insert each end of the

cord thru the 4mm jump rings

Step 4

When you reach the end of the

bracelet loop each cord into

the last ring


Then bring the cords side by side

and tie a knot


Thats it You now have a funky chainmail bracelet

Please do not distribute lend or copy

Materials

- small pliers

- scissors

- a couple yards of embroidery floss in the color of your choice

Step 1

Cut 10 strips of leather lace Youll need three of these strips to

make one tassel My necklace has seven tassels on it so that

means I cut twenty-one 10 pieces To create a tassel fold three

pieces in half and wrap one end of your headpin around the

fold using your pliers to secure the headpin and clamp it to the

leather


Step 2

Add your beads to an end of the headpin that youve left

sticking out Then loop your headpin so that you can use it to

secure the tassel to your necklace Repeat until youve created

as many tassels as you want to be on your necklace Then use a

small piece of embroidery floss to gather all the strands together

and knot tightly

Repeat until youve made as many

tassels as you want


Step 4

Begin winding a length of leather lace around your embroidery hoop We

just need the big outer ring with the hardware on it Wrap lace tightly until

you come to the end Secure with a knot The wooden hoop is naturally

nice and stretchy and fits easily and comfortably around the neck without

needing to be secured

Step 5

Then double-knot each tassel to your

collar with some more embroidery

floss

Clip all loose threads of embroidery

floss and youre done

Materials and equipment - Leather (a piece of leather with size 13x11 cm will be enough)

- Wire (thickness 05-07mm length 25 cm )

- Ring blank

- Cosmetic pad

- PVA glue

- Brush

- Wire Cutters

- Awl

- Hot glue gun

Step 1

Using the patterns cut out necessary quantity of petals from the

leather

Fill 1 part of the glass with

PVA glue and the rest with

plain water


Mix the solution thoroughly

Step 3

Put the petals cut out from

the leather into the solution

and let them soak

completely

Step 4

Cut about 20-25 cm (8rdquo-10rdquo)

of wire with the wire cutters

You can do it much shorter

but itrsquos easier to work with

the wire of 20-25 cm (8rdquo-10rdquo)

Bend the wire in half

Separate a little piece from

the cosmetic pad

(approximately one fourth)

and place it between two

ends of the wire

Step 7

Dip the tips of your fingers into PVA glue and with the help of glue and cotton

wool construct a basis for the bud

Stick the bud onto the pattern A and

check whether the sizes match If the

bud basis made of the cotton wool is

much bigger than the Pattern A petal

try to make the bud tighter with your

fingers or just repeat the same stage

of work using less quantity of cotton

wool

Take the leather petals out of

the glue solution and lay

them on the flat surface and

let them dry

Then wring pressure and

arrange the damp petals tp

your liking (except for petals

In 10-20 minutes readjust the petals

When all are dry completely

make little holes in the middle of

each petal with the awl

Then start pasting the bud made of cotton wool to the petals Pattern A

first then pattern B and at last pattern C

This is a flower we obtain after all petals have been glued together

Separate the ends and cut with wire cutters leave only 3-4 mm from each

MATERIALS FOR RING - 1 x large jump ring (we used size KK14 in jewelry brass)

- 3 x medium jump rings (we used size J16 in jewelry brass)

- 12-20 x small jump rings for the band (we used size H18 anodized aluminum

in black)3

- 32-40 x tiny rubber o-rings for the band (we used size C19 in black)

Note The number of small and tiny rings you need will depend on how large

you need your ring to be Each set of small rings gives you approx 58 for

the band



Step 1

Start by scooping 13 tiny rings onto the open large ring These rings will be

used to attach the center domed rings and the band Close the large ring



Step 2

Open a medium ring scoop 6 tiny rings and then weave the medium ring

through 3 of the tiny rings on the large ring Close the medium ring

Tip You may find it helpful to pinch the rubber rings with your non-dominant

hand to make the part your are weaving through a little bigger and easier

to slip the ring through

Step 3

Open another medium ring and scoop 3 more tiny rings onto it Skip 2 tiny

rings for the band then weave this ring through the next 3 tiny rings on the

large ring as well as the 3 tiny rings on the first medium ring Close this ring

Step 4

Open one final medium ring but do not scoop more tiny rings Weave

through the next 3 tiny rings that as well as the 3 on each of the other

medium rings Close this ring



Step 5

The band is simply a 2-in-2 strip Start by opening a

small ring scooping 2 tiny rings onto it and

weaving it through two of the hanging tiny rings on

the large ring Close this ring and double it Repeat

this until your strip it long enough to wrap around

your finger Donrsquot forget the final set of small rings

will connect to the other two hanging rings you

have left on the large ring

Thatrsquos it ndash yoursquore done Because you used rubber rings the dome will be

flexible so you can shape it to lay how you like

You can use the same size rings to create complimentary earrings Use the

same technique of scooping tiny rings onto the large ring weaving through

these and adding tiny rings to the medium rings to build this shape

MATERIALS FOR EARRINGS - 2 x large jump rings

- 6 x medium jump rings

- 24 x tiny rubber o-rings

- 2 x earwires in complimenting finish

Today we have Schelesia Mangus and she is here to let us know how she

has been coping with online business She is an avid beader and she

creates many different things such as birds dragons jewelry and table

top items

She spent 2 years in building an incredible WordPress website but it website

crashed due to Woo Commerce Plug-In and since there was no fix for it

she had to start all over again

For Schelesia she started making Christmas ornaments with her mother since

she was a young girl She grew to love creating things and polished up her

ability for crafting She sold her first creation at the age of 18 and sold her

creations as a hobby until the year 2005 That was when she created Unique

Beaded Gifts and started to get serious about her craft

She creates her own jewelry pieces which she sells on Etsy The CraftStar and

her own website which is Unique Beaded Gifts She also has her Facebook

page at httpswwwfacebookcomUniqueBeadedGifts



Everything she created is handcrafted She will also soon be showing off

creative beading and drawing creations by her granddaughters Her

creations of 3D beaded items such as the birds and dragons can take up

from 16 houts to 32 hours each Most of her creations are custom made

and made when ordered Her 3D items which has lights in them take 4 to

12 hours to make and she creates them in bulk to build up stocks Her

schedule is flexible and she can change her schedule to be more

productive

She does not use Etsy as much because she finds that to promote her

items on Etsy takes up a lot of her time which affects her time to create

her items She found TheCraftStarcom and she fell in love with it because

of their handmade platform and there was where she opened her shop

there on January 2013 Her sales are higher at The CraftStar as compared

to Etsy Her own website was a great website which had an incredible

amount of traffic and sales but in November 2014 there were issues with

WordPress and WooCommerce and by February 2015 her site was no

longer functional



There were no help or responses from WooCommerce about the plug in

that crashed her site and when there were no fix for it she thought she

was doomed Luckily for her she managed to change her web host with

the help of Go Daddy though she has to rebuild her site and it is

extremely time consuming it is necessary to do so in order to get back her

online traffic and sales And though she loves having her own website she

will still keep her store on The CraftStar as it is a fabulous platform and she

finds that The CraftStar is very supportive of their shop owners She also

feels that by having more than one platform she is able to give her clients

options and also whichever platform they feel comfortable with

She has some tips to give us on how to stay in the business of online selling

1 Schedule your day as you would if you are working for someone else Think like an employer and at the same time an employee and carry out

the duties of both employer and employee Since you have to do both

parts it is essential to schedule and organize your time so that you can be

successful and keep your life afloat Prioritize your needs She starts her

day by planning out her familyrsquos needs then she spends a couple of hours

on promoting her site on social media and adding creations to her online

sites communicating with followers and so on Then another couple of

hours she will spend on managing her finances Remember to haven

lunch And after that she will spend her time creating new creations ideas

and completing that dayrsquos project till about 5pm She then leaves a
