New Business

12 new businesses with average revenue per month is IDR 545,063,- and business

growth 6,1% per month

Puji Utami, a young housewife from Gayam village firstly participated in TANGGUH entrepreneurship training class on September 2012. Then she went to business plan competition on December 2012 and she won it. Today she run her new business since February 2013. She received net revenue in average IDR 1,000,000,- per month from her toko kelontong business. (Photo:Erynn Carter)

Existing Business

11 existing businesses with average revenue per month IDR 1,358,373,- and business growth of 198,5% per month

Bin Yanto and his wife started their small warung kopi 4 years ago with average net income Rp.450,000,- per month. After received in kind grant support from TANGGUH, Bin Yanto gained average net income Rp.900,000,- per month. In general his business income increased 129% after TANGGUH program intervention.(photo : Erynn Carter)

Youth Project & Campaign

Disaster Risk Reduction campaign at elementary school in Brabowan village. Youth leaders deliver training to children on how to mitigate and response towards potential natural disaster that might happen in their village.

The first campaign led by youth, a Hand washing campaign. Youth leaders led a campaign on personal hygiene through hand washing for children at Dukuh Sogo, Mojodelik village.

Sustainability

• Improved skills of youth will ensure Youth business will continue running

• Relationship between youth entrepreneur will continue through business interaction

• Cooperative will continue to provide loan for youth business• Business center will continue to provide service to youth who

wants to start their business• Business center and cooperative will be a media for youth to

interact and share their experience in business• TANGGUH partners will continue to look after youth development

and business (LAPENKOP, KARANG TARUNA KABUPATEN, DINAS KOPERASI & UMKM,IWAPI)

• Village leaders will put more attention to Karang Taruna and youth development in the village level.

Opportunity & Challenge

Good momentum to move-on and work better with youth

Short program duration – 1 year to implement various activity

Numbers of youth without employment

Youth interest and mindset which associated with oil related work and handout mentality

Good relationship with Karang Taruna and related government agencies in district and village level.

Cultural barrier, especially for girl / women

Recommendation

• Need to develop strategic partnership with local government, LNGO, institution and local business to ensure sustainability of program.

• Program outreach need to be improved to reach more targeted youth.

• Technical assistance still needed to ensure continuity growth of new businesses.

• Need to build clear communication line between Mercy Corps, MCL and Exxon

• Period of project need to be synchronize with goal or objective of program

• Post project Monitoring towards implemented project need carried out by MCL and partners
