Dear Parents, Although I am a professional hockey player, I am also a Dad to three school-aged boys! I find that reading to my kids is just as fun as shooting a puck into the net and am excited to announce that your child’s first grade classroom will be participating in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Score With Reading program. e program will run October 15-December 15, 2012 and encourages your first grader to read at least 20 minutes per day and keep “score” of minutes read. e program motivates students to become All-Star readers with reading milestones and the ability to win prizes! Students who read 20 minutes a day for 20 days (400 total minutes) by the end of the program will earn a FREE underBug’s Kids Club membership and underBug sticker. Students who read 20 minutes a day for 40 days (800 total minutes) by the end of the program will also earn a FREE ticket voucher to an upcoming Tampa Bay Lightning game. All classrooms that go above and beyond the goal of 800 minutes per student will be entered to win a classroom visit by underBug or another Lightning celebrity. PARENT/GUARDIAN STEPS FOR SUCCESS MOTIVATE: Encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes per day and your child will be on his or her way to “Scoring With Reading!” Although the goal is to encourage daily reading, your child can certainly read more or less each day to reach the minute milestones.
