Superyacht  Crew    The  crew  required  to  operate  a  super  luxury  yacht  can  number  from  8  members  for  a  120  B  yacht,  to  a  larger  compliment  depending  on  size  and  season.  The  crew  is  made  up  of  a  Captain,  Chief  Engineer,  Engineer/s,  First  Mate,  Officers,  Bosun,  Chef/s,  Crew  Chef,  Deckhand/s  and  Stewardess/Steward/s.  Luxury  yachts  are  maintained  by  crew  all  year  round  but  will  oBen  scale  down  to  a  skeleton  crew  during  the  seasons  that  the  owners  are  not  on  board  and  no  charters  are  booked.  Most  crew  members  live  on  board  and  are  paid  a  monthly  salary,  with  most  living  expenses  covered  by  the  owner.  Live  on  board  crews  do  not  pay  rent,  food,  electricity  or  water  bills.  All  luxury  yachts  have  crew  areas  below  deck,  which  consist  of  a  crew  mess,  crew  cabins  and  laundry.  While  most  crew  cabins  contain  bunk  beds,  there  are  Captains  and  Chief  Engineers  who,  on  the  larger  yachts,  have  their  own  cabins.

What  is  a  Superyacht?    A  ‘Superyacht’  is  a  commercially  operated  luxury  yacht  (motor  or  sail  powered),  which  is  professionally  crewed  and  has  a  load  line  length  of  24  metres  and  above.  Some  yachts  are  either  used  exclusively  by  their  owners  or  are  available  part-‐Wme  for  commercial  charter,  while  others  are  operated  all  year  round  as  charter  businesses.  The  number  of  very  large  yachts  has  grown  rapidly  since  the  2000's  and  increasingly  only  yachts  above  45  meters  (148.5  B.)  stand  out  among  other  luxury  yachts.    Where  do  Superyachts  operate?    A  Superyacht  is  all  about  luxury  and  comfort  and  that  includes  her  surroundings.  A  main  reason  for  owning/operaWng  a  Superyacht  is  her  ability  to  travel  to  the  best  desWnaWons  for  climate  and  comfort.  Many  Superyachts  operate  out  of  the  Caribbean  in  the  America’s,  The  Mediterranean  for  Europe  and  South  East  Asia  for  Asia  and  may  travel  between  the  3  cruising  desWnaWons  depending  on  season  and  regional  aZracWons.

There  are  no  set  hours  that  crew  members  work  each  week.  The  hours  depend  greatly  on  how  oBen  the  owners  are  on  board,  how  oBen  it  is  chartered  and  on  what  hours  the  Captain  sets  when  there  are  no  guests  on  board.

Why hasn’t there been a training centre for Superyacht Crew in Singapore before? Singapore based Superyachts have historically been crewed by foreigner yacht crews. However, with the changes in allowing foreign crews to reside in Singapore and the escalating demand for well trained, intelligent, presentable English speaking crew to the fast expanding Asian Superyacht market, the timing is perfect to train a new generation of Singaporeans into this exciting industry.
