Talk of
The Town
CONSTRUCTION, ROADS, TRAVEL TIMES AND CONDITIONS
The Regina Bypass team is working hard at completing the work on the bypasses, which will
make driving safer for all of us. Until the time of completion, there will be speed reductions,
one lane traffic and some confusion. This will be a confusing time for all of us as we learn the
roundabouts and getting comfortable with our new surroundings. Once available, we will
post informational videos to our website pertaining to the overpass. Please take your time,
and be considerate to those who are still learning this new way to get to and from town.
Understandably, tempers may flare as the work is proceeding.
DETOUR STARTING JULY 24th
As the on and off ramps are being completed, the service road on the west side of town,
towards the Baptist Church (behind McIlwaine’s), through to Main street will be the access
road while this construction is completed. Traffic from the highway will be detoured through
town as per this route. Please ensure you take a few extra minutes on your commute. We
ask for your patience, as this will see a heavy amount of traffic come through town. The
construction seems like it has been going on forever, but the end is in sight! The difficulties of
today will result in a safer and more efficient traffic corridor. Please see the map on the
following page.
Things to keep in mind during this challenging period:
*Expect delays
*The reduced speeds are to prevent injuries to workers, and drivers alike.
*If you must use a cell phone, use a hands free device.
*Pay attention for new signage.
*Show respect for those flag people working on the road.
The road construction workers do their part to keep you out of harm’s way from heavy
equipment and road hazards. However, they are vulnerable to passing traffic or distracted
drivers. There is literally nothing between them and the thousands of pounds of steel in your
vehicle. Please, do your part to keep them safe, as they are doing theirs to keep us safe.

The TRANSFER STATION is electronically set up to provide our town residents with
accessibility day or night. The Town of Balgonie offers these services on site at the
TRANSFER STATION, but has the added responsibility to ensure that environmental
regulations are followed. Municipalities can be fined for burning unapproved items
and not disposing of things in the manner set forth by the Provincial Ministry of
Environment and the Provincial Clean Air Act.
Recently, items have been left at the TRANSFER STATION which are not
permitted. Please ensure that you read and understand what items are allowed
and not allowed to be left at the TRANSFER STATION. Individuals who leave
items which are not allowed will be required to clean up the improper disposal,
and/or pay charges for the Town to remove the items. There is also a $500
penalty for illegal dumping at the site. The transfer station cards can be
cancelled at the discretion of the Council of the Town of Balgonie.
THE TRANSFER STATION IS NOT A GARBAGE DUMP!
The Transfer Station is a location where the following items can be left:
Scrap Metal
Tree Branches and Grass Clippings (removed from the plastic bags)
Compostable materials
Oil and Containers - There is an oil recycling centre station where you are able
to dump unused oils and their containers on the south side of the station.
The 1st & 3rd Friday of every month, a Loraas bin is delivered to the transfer
station. This is for town residents to use for the items which are too large for
the household carts. Please note, this is only to be used by Balgonie residents.
Larger loads due to fence removal, renovation etc, should be taken to the
Regina landfill.
If the bin is full or not at the site, do not leave items, take them to
the Regina landfill.
Key cards, which are lost, should be reported to the Town Office. They will be
removed from the computer system and a new card will be issued at a cost to you of
$25.00. If you are moving, please return the key card to the Town Office.
Diabetes also have clothing bins to take donations.

Local Student Qualifies to Compete at World’s Largest Rodeo
Shelby Lockie, a twelfth-grade student at Greenall High School in Balgonie has earned a position on the Saskatchewan
provincial National High School Rodeo Team and will be travelling with fellow teammates to Gillette, Wyoming,
July 16-22 to compete at the 69th annual National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) in the Queen competition.
Featuring more than 1,750 contestants from 43 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia, the NHSFR is the world’s
largest rodeo. In addition to competing for more than $200,000 in prizes, NHSFR contestants will also be competing for
more than $350,000 in college scholarships and the chance to be named an NHSFR World Champion. To earn this title,
contestants must finish inside the top 20 – based on their combined times/scores in the first two rounds – to advance
to Saturday evening’s final round. World champions will then be determined based on their three-round combined
times/scores.
Again, this year, Saturday’s championship round will be televised nationally as a part of the Cinch Highschool Rodeo
Tour telecast series on RFD-TV. Live broadcasts of each NHSFR performance will also air online at NHSRATV.com.
Performance times are 7 p.m. on July 16, and 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day thereafter.
Along with great rodeo competition and the chance to meet new friends from around the world, NHSFR contestants
have the opportunity to enjoy shooting sports, volleyball, contestant dances, family-oriented activities, church services
sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys, and shopping at the NHSFR tradeshow.
To follow your local favorites at the NHSFR, visit NHSRA.com daily for complete results. For ticket information, visit www.cam-plex.com.
Thank you to the surrounding area residents, businesses and all levels of government for making the Balgonie Family Fun Day to celebrate Canada's 150th year of confederation a huge success!
Congratulations to Don Wishart, winner of the Backyard BBQ and Kerri-Anne Froh who won the Summer Wagon of Fun. Thank you to all for your much appreciated support of these fundraisers. Funds raised remain in our lodge communities through the work we do.
