Alex Hester Scene analysis Film: Taken Genre: action, thriller Shots: it starts with a medium-close up on Kim showing that she is casually walking around with nothing wrong at this point. Kim answers the phone and we get a long shot zooming into a medium close up of Liam Neeson as he gets up showing his excitement of his daughter answering the call, the zoom helps show the excitement with fast fluid movements The next scene is of Kim rushing around the hotel at a medium close up this shows her face focusing on talking with her father (Liam Neeson) however her body language shows that she wants to get out of the phone call as soon as possible. This would make the viewer feel sorry for the father. A scene now is a medium close up highlighting Kim’s face to show how shocked she is to see her best friend being kidnaped in front of her and it would helpthe viewer realize how serious the events that occurring are. A long shot shows Amanda being taken and struggling to get away from her kidnappers also in the background you can hear Kim exhaling and becoming terrified as to what might happen to her. This could cause some viewers to become greatly enthralled in the scene however it could cause great distress to others. Also the extreme long shot shows that kim is useless and cannot possibly help Amanda.

Shots: it starts with a medium-close up on Kim showing that she is casually walking around with nothing wrong at this point.

Kim answers the phone and we get a long shot zooming into a medium close up of Liam Neeson as he gets up showing his excitement of his daughter answering the call, the zoom helps show the excitement with fast fluid movements

The next scene is of Kim rushing around the hotel at a medium close up this shows her face focusing on talking with her father (Liam Neeson) however her body language shows that she wants to get out of the phone call as soon as possible. This would make the viewer feel sorry for the father.

Afterwards there are then a series of close ups on Kim’s and her father’s face showing the utter terror of Kim and the concern and fright of her father. The music adds a sense of terror to the scene as when Amanda gets forced out of the room cymbals get played to signify the end, as in Amanda now has no chance of escape and would now get a lot of the focus back onto the two main characters.

The next shot is a medium close up of Kim hiding under the bed talking to her father who is giving her instructions, the medium close up lets you see the terror on her face however you see that her body is completely still and she is trying to make as little noise as possible whilst receiving instructions from her father as to how to handle the situation, this will make the viewer feel very close to Kim and feel some of the terror that she is.

The next scene is of Kim’s father listening to Kim getting taken, it is a close up showing the focus he is giving to listening to Kim’s description of the kidnapper it helps you realize that the protagonist of this film is not one to let his emotions get in the way of his goal and the viewer will be very interested in the rest of the scene due to the screaming and chaos that can be heard.
