Welcome to CinC@Singapore in 2019!

Dear Colleagues & Friends,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the International Conference in Computing in Cardiology 2019 will be held in Singapore. This is the second time that CinC is held outside of Europe and USA, and we are excited to host you at next year’s meeting.

The republic of Singapore is a city-state situated one degree north of the equator. Packed into its 130 square kilometres of real estate is a bustling metropolis embedded in lush tropical greeneries. Due to its horticultural richness, Singapore is also known as a City in a Garden. As a nation that is home to a wide plurality of cultures, ethnicities and religions, the diversity that you can experience in Singapore will be a unique experience in itself.

The conference venue will be located at the one-north precinct which houses world-class research facilities and business park spaces to support the growth of Biomedical Sciences, Infocomm Technology, Media, Physical Sciences and Engineering. The line up to next year’s programme includes a Sunday Symposium jointly organized with the National Heart Centre, Singapore to demonstrate the utility of computer- and computational-related research work in clinical practices. Due to the location of the conference, we expect significant participation and contribution of papers from colleagues in the Asia-Pacific Region.

We have planned for the passivist social event to include a visit to the Gardens by the Bay – a nature park spanning an awe-inspiring 101 hectares garden, set in the heart of the city. The activist social event will be conducted at the Mega Adventure Park where participants will enjoy adrenaline-pumping thrills on a zipline at 75 metres

high, 450 metres long and heart-pounding speed of 60kph. To top it off, the Gala Dinner will feature unique Singapore cuisine which is as diverse as its culture.

At this point, we are working closely with the CinC Board of Directors to fine tune the conference programme so that it will be an exquisite experience for all of you. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I look forward to welcoming you to Singapore next year. Be there!

With warmest regards,

Su Yi

Letter from the President Dear Participant,

Welcome to the 45th

Computing in Cardiology conference. Returning to The Netherlands is like coming home for CinC as this country hosted CinC three times in the past, always in Rotterdam, and we welcome this move to Maastricht, an extremely active and productive center for cardiology research. CinC first visited The Netherlands back in 1975, which was before even my time! The links to Maastricht are also very deep through our conference chair, Willem (Pim) Dassen, who also served a full term on the Board of Directors of CinC; we know we will be in good hands with Pim and his Co-chair, Jordi Heijman and we thank them for all their efforts over the past three years leading to CinC 2018!

Pim and Jordi have prepared an excellent meeting and social program, with a strong set of presentations selected from another large list of abstracts, which each year now demonstrates the increasing interest and huge impact of engineering in cardiology.

The Special Session initiative continues to highlight topics of new or renewed interest to our field and this year we again have three exciting sessions and topics:

1) Bioimpedance monitoring in cardiovascular diseases. 2) Personalized Medicine through integration of imaging and cardiac

modeling: state of the art and prospects. 3) Physics-based Versus Machine-learning Approaches to

Electrocardiographic Inverse Problems: Connections and Gaps.

This and other initiatives like the Clinical Translation and Young Investigator awards are features of CinC that we review each year, so please provide the Board of Directors with feedback on these initiatives as well as any other aspects of the conference. It is the Board's foremost commitment to guide the progress of our CinC organization in the coming years.

This year has been one of big changes in CinC organization with a number of experienced members completing their Board terms (maximum of nine years) to be replaced by a set of new members. Perhaps most challenging have been changes in the executive positions of President (Rob), Treasurer (Jean-Philippe Couderc), and Secretary (Luca Mainardi), two of whom are brand new Board members. We have also added a new technical editor, Christine Pickett, formalized the role of Gari Clifford as manager of the Physionet Challenge and added new Board members, Maria Guillem and Pyotr Platonov. Fortunately for us all, Past President Pablo Laguna and our past treasurer Victor Mor-Avi have been able to help with the (ongoing) transition.

If I have learned one thing I my first year as President, it is the huge commitment of the Board members necessary to run CinC. When things run well, it is easy to forget how much is going on in the background and each attendee should take a moment and thank any Board members they meet.

Finally, I know Maastricht and CinC2018 will continue the long tradition and provide a scientifically stimulating meeting that will enable and motivate your research. I hope what you see motivates your participation next year as we move to the other side of the world to Singapore for CinC 2019.

Best wishes,

Rob MacLeod

President, Computing in Cardiology

Welcome to Maastricht Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the local organizing committee, we warmly welcome you from September 23-26, 2018 to the 45th Computing in Cardiology Conference in Maastricht, The Netherlands. Situated in the southernmost part of the Netherlands, Maastricht is located in the heart of Europe and the Euregion Meuse –Rhine. The city is only a short distance from both the Belgium and the German border and cities such as Liege, Aachen, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Brussels are therefore very near. Maastricht is easily accessible by plane, train and car. Maastricht is the oldest city in the Netherlands, but its university is the youngest and most international one, with 17.000 students from more than 120 different countries. Being the gastronomic capital of the Netherlands, the city also offers everything from Michelin-star establishments to traditional small local restaurants and pubs offering hospitality and quality food for every budget. The Sunday symposium will take place at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences of Maastricht University and the conference will be at the MECC conference centre, both located in the Randwyck area, within walking distance from your hotel, or easily reachable using the local public transportation, which will be free of charge with your CinC badge. The organizing committee, representing the departments of Cardiology, Biomedical Engineering and Knowledge Engineering has prepared an active scientific and social programme in and around Maastricht for Computing in Cardiology 2018. The Sunday symposium will focus on a hands-on experience with four advanced computer models and software tools in cardiology (CircAdapt, ECGSim, Myokit and SCIRun). After a word of welcome by the chairman of the Department of Cardiology and a short introduction, 250 computers are waiting, so you can discover the possibilities of various models to simulate, for example, cardiac contraction or electrical activation across various scales from ion-channel to whole heart. On Monday, the conference will start in the MECC conference centre. After the morning sessions all participants are transferred to the city centre for a two-hour lunch cruise on the river. In order to keep on schedule, everybody is requested to go directly to the busses at the end of their session. After returning ashore at 15:00 the various social activities will start. Eight different activist and passivist programmes have been organized, ranging from very lazy to breath-taking. The large number on

your badge indicates the choice you made during registration, so cheating is not an option. At 19:00 all participants are expected at café Ipanema, next to the Bonnefanten museum. After a welcome drink and bite on the impressive stairs of the museum, CinC delegates have the option to participate in a short, guided tour to see the highlights of the museum, or can enjoy a private stroll. From 20:15 onwards, a walking dinner will be served with various choices to accommodate everybody’s taste and the bars will be opened. During the evening the Beverly Brothers will play their oldies but goodies. On Tuesday, the conference will continue at the MECC conference centre. After the afternoon sessions, CinC delegates are invited by the mayor of Maastricht, Annemarie Penn- te Strake, to attend a reception at the Maastricht town hall. During the evening you are free to enjoy Maastricht nightlife with its 400 bars and restaurants. On Wednesday, the final day of the conference, the program at the MECC will bring more exciting scientific presentations and will conclude with the final plenary session. In this session the winners of the Young Investigator Award, the Physionet/CinC Challenge Awards, the ESC-CinC Clinical Needs Translational Award, The Mortara Fellowships and the Bill & Gary Sanders Poster Awards will be announced, together with a preview on CinC2019 in Singapore. We are confident that on Wednesday evening we will look back on a successful and social CinC2018 that hopefully brought you at least as much inspiration and satisfaction as it gave us preparing the programme. This impressive Dutch Baroque building in the middle of the Market square has a rich 18th-century décor. It is home to many art treasures and antiques.

For Authors and Speakers

Oral Presentations

The time allocated for each oral presentation is 10 minutes, followed by 5 minutes for discussion (except for Physionet Challenge sessions). Speakers are expected to adhere strictly to this schedule, which will be enforced by session chairpersons to finish sessions on time and to permit participants to move successfully from one parallel session to another.

• All conference rooms will be equipped with a computer projection system (projector and PC with Windows 10, Powerpoint 2013, Windows Media Player and Adobe Acrobat Reader).

• Due to Powerpoint version issues, PDF format is preferred. • Laptops can be connected through HDMI or VGA. MacBook users should

make sure to bring a adapter.

Speakers are required to allow adequate time before their session to load and check their presentation. Also, speakers are required to meet with their session chairpersons in the scheduled conference room at least 10 minutes before the beginning of the session. It is a good idea to ensure that the chairperson knows how to pronounce your name correctly.

Poster Presentations

Poster sessions will take place in the main conference area. Poster session P71-P7D is on Tuesday, 25th September from 16:00 onwards, and Poster session PA1-PA8 is on Wednesday, 26th September, from 12:15-13:45. Authors are required to be present at their posters during their assigned session to discuss their work with other conference attendees.

• Check in: Authors presenting posters must check in with the session chair in the exhibition centre during the 30 minutes before the poster sessions in which their presentations are scheduled.

• Posters may be hung after 8:00 and prior to the start of the poster sessions on the day of presentation (either Tuesday or Wednesday).
