Welcome Address

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Africa Leadership Summit in Jerusalem. It feels special to be in Jerusalem - the city of the great King. This city was inspired by God and given to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their descendants forever. Enjoy the ambience, the peace, the peoples, and the presence of God.

This Summit has two principal goals. One is for leaders from different cities of Africa to bless and connect with Israel. The second goal is for African leaders to see the beginning of the end of bad leadership in Africa and to see to the establishment of succeeding generations of godly and productive leadership in every city and every sector of society.

The dream is to see a flourishing highway of exchange between African cities and Israel in every area of human endeavour and to see a unique, African, biblical pattern of leadership and development of Africa. I take this opportunity to thank our agents (Vered Hasharon and Netanya Tours in particular) and the other agents in the various regions of Africa.

Special thanks to staff and volunteers at ICLD office in Pretoria. Thanks for enduring the journey and weathering all the challenges to date. Thanks to all the leaders who helped mobilise other leaders. It is my prayer that having endured this far you will actually begin to enjoy all that unfolds henceforth.

Please read the letter addressed to all delegates and give your best to make this Summit of eternal value to yourself, family, friends, and the cities and sectors of society that you represent.

Shalom

Letter To All Delegates

Greetings 1. Shalom and special greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour and King. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you as a delegate to the first Africa Leadership Summit in Jerusalem, hosted by the Pretoria-based Institute for Christian Leadership Development. “I am replicating the Abrahamic mantle and inviting African leaders to come up and receive them.” These are the prophetic words that motivated us to call this Summit. It is an invitation from the Lord. There is an Abrahamic mantle waiting for every man and woman in attendance at this Summit. This is the divine prescription for the challenge of poor leadership in Africa. Africa and Israel are entering into a new season and God has called each one of us to be part of that prophetic season.

Ascending to Jerusalem2. Please read and proclaim Psalms 121, 122, 120, and 123 in that order. These are called songs of ascents. People do not just travel or just go to Jerusalem; they as-cend. It is a hill of the Lord. It is the place the Lord chose for all of Israel to assemble for the feasts, and the place the Lord chose for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It is a gate where God reconciled humanity to Himself. Jerusalem today is full of New Age idols and spirits, cults, religious altars, and secular humanism. It is the place of one of the oldest human conflicts in the world. The human conflict in Jerusalem is symbolic of the age-long conflict between darkness and light over the souls of men and the nations of the earth. We are connecting with the victory of Jesus and drinking from the fountain of life as we ascend to Jerusalem. Please beware of the religious environment and give careful consideration to what you say and how you say it.

Weather 3. Time Difference: Jerusalem is UTC/GMT + 2 hours. This means it is one hour ahead of Johannesburg, two hours ahead of Lagos, and the same time as Nairobi. Please adjust your watch accordingly so that you are not late for meetings or the bus. It is anticipated that warm weather will be experienced throughout the conference dates of 25 - 28 August 2013. Please, therefore, pack suitable summer cloth-ing, and stay properly and appropriately dressed at all times.

Dress Codes4. There are at least two sessions in which you will need to be dressed in formal attire: these sessions include the opening session (first night) and the gala night. Acceptable formal attire includes what is traditionally regarded as formal western or traditional African attire. At all other sessions, you may dress in either formal or semi-formal clothing. Please note that the use of informal or casual clothing is not permitted at any of the sessions of the Summit.

Summit Schedule5. The Summit schedule is included in the Summit brochure that is distributed upon arrival at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Please go through the brochure and familiar-ise yourself with the times, schedules, and necessary information.

Gala Night7. The gala night is a celebration night. We celebrate Africa, Israel, and Africa-Israel relations at all levels. Most importantly, we celebrate the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Please bring out all the beautiful dresses and clothing that give expression to the creativity and industry of your people group. Bear in mind that this is a celebra-tion “…for glory and for beauty” (Exodus 28:2) before the King of Kings in Jerusalem.

Recordings8. The Institute for Christian Leadership Development is responsible for the recording and distribution of all Summit materials. Both audio and video materials will be available for a fee during the conference. Please contact the administration desk at the conference to place your order.

Please speak to our agents for your communication needs. VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE: You are personally responsible for all telephone calls made from your hotel room. The hotel will demand payment for the telephone bills before you are allowed to check out.

Bureau de Change and Exchange Rates14. The Israeli currency is called the shekel. It exchanges to the dollar at the rate of 1 Usd = 3.55 NIS. Vered Hasharon - our agent in Israel. It has been recommended that you do all bureau de change transactions at the airport on arrival. Our agent in Israel will provide all necessary guidance in this regard. Take your time to complete all money transactions at the airport as there will be no other time allocated for exchange of money.

Offerings 15. There are two offerings that will be taken during the Summit. The first one goes to the churches in Israel and they will use it for church work, the support of orphans and widows, and to provide for ministers of the gospel. The second offering goes to the Institute for Christian Leadership Development. The offering for Israel is prophetic and it should be gathered by each delegation before departure and placed in the hand of the team leader who will deliver it in Israel. It will be delivered on the first night at the opening session. The second offering will be collected on the second evening of the Summit. The two offerings will be collected in dollars.

Registration and Administration Desk 16. Mattie Görgens is the administrator at the Institute’s office in Pretoria. She will manage the front desk at the Summit. Please feel free to ask her questions and place orders for tapes and cd’s with her. If there is any material that you would like to distribute, please pass it through your team leader and then to Mattie. From time to time, the admin desk may request you to complete one form or the other. Please attend to these and other requests as quickly as possible.

Photographs17. During official Summit sessions, Pierre van Wyk from Pretoria will be taking pictures. Please do not take pictures during official sessions. Please also do not place unnecessary pressure on Pierre. There will be official photo sessions at the conference. Outside of the official sessions, please feel free to use the ambience of the Crowne Plaza Hotel to capture memories in pictures.

Lunch 18. The hotel is booked at half board. This means that you are provided with breakfast and dinners only. No lunch. You are welcome to make private arrangements for lunch at the hotel. However, during the tours, there are designated stops where people may purchase lunch.

Prayer Times19. Delegates are encouraged to spend private times in prayer. There may be very little time of congregational praying during the Summit. However, delegates are encouraged to pray together in their rooms. Please agree with your room mates whether you prefer to pray alone or together. Let’s respect each other’s time, privacy, and preferences.

Electricity Power Adapters20. This is a picture of the socket in Israel: Two Israeli plugs and one socket. The left plug is the old standard, the one on the right is the 1989 revision This plug, defined in SI 32 (IS16A-R), is unique to Israel. There are two kinds: One with flat pins, and the other with round ones. The pre-1989 system has three flat pins to form a Y-shape. Line and neutral are spaced 19 mm (0.75 in) apart. The plug is rated at 16 A.In 1989, the standard was revised to use three round 4.5 mm (0.177 in) pins in the same locations, allowing the socket to accept the Euro plugs used in Europe and Israel for non-earthed appliances. Sockets made since 1989 accept both flat and round pins for compatibility with both old and new plugs. Pre-1989 sockets which accept only old-style plugs are very rare in Israel. Type H plugs have no sleeve insu-lation, so when a type H plug is partially removed its prongs may still be connected to the socket, increasing the chance of electric shock. Please be aware.

Crowne Plaza Hotel Jerusalem21. The hotel has free Wi Fi connection in hotel areas and in all the rooms.

Tips 22. You do not need to give tips to portals, hotel staff, or tour guides. All these have been included in your bills already. Rev Nico of Natanja Tours will give out the tips directly or via the tour leaders.

Availability of Rooms on 25 August23. Please note that the check-in time at the hotel is only after lunch on 25 August. The bus will convey delegates from the airport straight to the hotel where Rev Nico van Wyk will welcome you and show you to the lobby and luggage room until you can check into your rooms later in the day. Also note that if you want to buy breakfast at the hotel or surrounding areas, Rev Nico will guide you. He will also inform you as soon as your room is available. Make sure you listen carefully to his guidance and instructions.

Information Protocol24. If there are issues that need to be clarified and questions that you need answered please discuss these with your group/country leader who will take up the mat-ter with tour leaders, administration or Summit conveners. Please observe this protocol at all times.
