Professional Diploma in Arthroplasty and Related Technology• The mission of this diploma is to improve patient care and outcome of arthroplasty surgery byproviding the basic knowledge and skills in the field of arthroplasty and related technology that allowcandidates to practice safely and efficiently. This can be achieved through a structured training programcovering the theoretical background of basic science/related technology and the basic surgical skills inall joint replacement. Quality of training is maintained by regular assessment, log book and exams.• Rationale:The field of arthroplasty is technology related and is rapidly advancing to the extent that astandard training program in orthopaedics is not enough. Subspecialty fellowships in arthroplasty focus onoperative skills but they have no structured training program and have no assessment or end of trainingexam. The present diploma is meant to fill this gap in training. Developing countries are deprived ofwell-structured training programs in orthopaedics in generaland of having enough subspecialtyfellowships in particular.• This diploma is meant to improve the patient care in arthroplasty in such regions.

October Medical MagazineOctober 6th City is a fast growing new city on both industrial and residentiallevels. It has some universities, two medical schools and more than 10 generalhospitals. Yet, there is no regular journal, magazine or newspaper to connect themedical community of doctors, nurses, paramedics and employees with the localpopulation.“October Medical” Magazine has been launched to fill this gap. Moreover, there is no medical publication that connects the medical community in Cairo andthe whole of Egypt. It is a challenge to establish and maintain a new medicalpublication that caters for both medical stuff and the public. In our first issue, wedecided to combine a medical magazine in Arabic with a medical journal inEnglish. Each has its own style and language, but they share the same readers, mainly doctors who study and write medicine in English and practice it in Arabic.
