Day 1: Flying to Iceland (lose 5 hours from EST)

Day 2 – Day 6: Exploring Reykjavik

Reykjavik is becoming an immensely popular destination that is starting to rival the famous European destinations.

Things to do: The Perlan (Pearl) which also has a revolving restaurant in the top, Bridge between the continents which allows you to walk from the North American tectonic plate to the Eurasian tectonic plate, you can even scuba dive in between the continents (but the water is always cold), Icelandic Horse riding tour, Golden circle tour (which takes you to Thingvellir, The Geysir, and Gullfoss Waterfall), National Museum of Iceland, Hallgrimskirkja church (tallest church- pictured), and Whale watching tours.

Places to stay: Hilton Reykjavik Nordica ($242/night), Castle House Luxury Apartments ($192/night), Luna Hotel Apartments ($155/night), Town House Iceland ($110/night), Hotel Laxnes ($189/night).

Places to Eat: Forrettabarinn (International Tapas $$), Fridrik V (Scandinavian, price unknown), Kjallarinn Kitchen Bar (European Fusion $$), Svarta Kaffi (Café $), Icelandic Bar – Islenski Barinn (Gastropub $), Café Loki (Scandinavian $), Humarhusid (Seafood $$), Jorundur (Scandinavian $$$).

Day 5: Day excursion to Grindavik, Iceland for the Blue Lagoon

Thermal Nature Baths are popular among locals and tourists. In my opinion the most beautiful of which is the Blue Lagoon in Grindavik (pictured below). There are also golf courses in Grindavik.

Places to eat: Northern Light Inn Restaurant (Seafood), Bryggjan (Coffee Shop), Lava Restaurant (Scandinavian $$), Pizzeria Mamma Mia (Pizza $)

Day 6: Day Excursion to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

One of the most beautiful and one of the most pictured waterfalls in the world. You can book a south coast day trip from Reykjavik for $151.

Day 7 – Day 8: Drive to Skaftafell National Park

At Skaftafell National Park you can do a Glacier tour where you hike a Glacier and you can go inside the Glacier to an Ice Cave. (going inside the cave can only be done November 1st – March 1st).

Other things to do: Lac “Polaire,” Skriduklaustur, and the Hallormsstadur Forestry Reserve.

Places to stay: Icelandair Hotel Herad ($207/night), Hotel Blafell ($173/night), Hvammsgerdi Bed and Breakfast ($87/night), Skalanes House ($143/night).
