OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT As Catholics in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis under the patronage of
Saint Joseph, in communion with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and
Archbishop Carlson, we are called by our Lord Jesus Christ to be His
Church and live His Gospel. With joy, we strive to fulfill our Baptismal
calling by fervent prayer and worship, sound teaching and sharing our
faith, serving others and fostering unity in diversity. Guided by the Holy
Spirit, we commit ourselves to be responsible stewards of all God's
gifts.
If you have been inactive in the practice of your Catholic Faith, we
encourage you to come home. If you would like to speak with someone
please do not hesitate to contact us.
If a previous marriage has kept you from receiving the Sacraments, we
invite you to contact one of the priests. In many cases we can work with
you toward a favorable solution so you can again receive the
Sacraments in the Catholic Church.

From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We hear in the 28th Chapter of Matthew today that “the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had
ordered them. When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.” Remember that doubt dwells on the other side of
the coin from faith and remember too that faith is a gift.
As we dwell in the physical springtime of our region today and see all the new life bursting forth, it’s hard to believe that any-
one might not believe in Almighty God. With God as the author of all life, we see Him everywhere, in the abundance of
flowering trees, all the birds (flying about and singing), the baby animals and for that matter, in all of the families in the
parish who are welcoming little ones in the coming days.
Be mindful of doubt. It’s a normal human response. But the Evil One often uses it to create anxiety and fear in the people of
God. This doubt is clearly not from God and we must test it in our prayers to see if it leads to desolation or consolation. Test
everything in prayer.
God bless you all.
Enjoy the beautiful weather!
Fr. Shaughnessy

SCHOOL’S CORNER .
Congratulations to our St. Joseph Catholic School Graduating Class of 2018.
We are proud of you and wish you the best in high school and the future. May you always know God’s love and our love for you. Thank you, parents and families, for your support of our school and its values and traditions.
Living History
Rachel Miller, a child Holocaust survivor from France, spoke to
Mrs. Mraz’s 8th grade American History classes on Tuesday, May 8.
The 8th graders studied World War II and the Holocaust for several
weeks, and with assistance from Erin Mulchek, Art Teacher, con-
structed a Holocaust Remembrance Tree. The students then made a
Garden of the Righteous to recognize those who did the right thing
in a time when so many did not.
Congratulations to Mrs. Deborah Mraz, St. Joseph Middle
School History/Social Studies teacher, who was awarded a grant
from the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center
in Bridgewater, New Jersey, and Stephanie Johnson, Aquatics
Director and Special Olympics New Jersey National Coach. Mrs.
Mraz will be taking courses this summer through Yad Vashem to
become certified as a Middle School Holocaust educator.
Mrs. Mraz is honored to receive this grant. She looks forward to us-
ing a wider range of course materials in our Middle School history
program. We appreciate this great opportunity that was presented to
Mrs. Mraz as she enriches our students’ better Understanding of
history.
$One for the Children
St. Joseph School students are taking the initiative to support the parish Capital Campaign. They are asking all
parish students in PSR and those who are in the parish, to join them in “$One for the Children”, a student
effort to take ownership for the new playground.
Sister Carol introduced the idea recently as a way for the students to become involved and say “thank you” to
St. Joseph Parish. If a minimum of 500 school and parish students combined each enroll 10 donors who
commit to $1 a month (or more) for 12 months, we will raise $60,000 for the new playground. Students who
reach their goal will have their names listed on a plaque in the playground.
Parishioner Mike Price has been researching area playgrounds and will be sharing some exciting pictures soon.
Mike is assisting Fr. Shaughnessy in gathering information for Sr. Carol and student committee members,
Kaylie, Briana, Maria and Erica. What a beautiful addition this playground will be for our parish children!
If you are a student and wish to participate in “$One for the Children,” simply submit your name to the
school office. It is important that your name and phone number are clearly written and submitted with your
donations. Your donations may be sent monthly or all at one time. Print clearly so we will have your name
properly recognized for the student donor board.
Thank you. More information will be coming soon!

Maximize Your Gift to St. Joseph Parish One excellent way to make a meaningful gift is with a gift of stock. As the stock market reaches one new record high after
another, a gift of stock becomes a more and more compelling choice for many donors. Here’s how it works:
You bought 10 shares of XYZ stock for $100 more than a year ago. The stock is now worth $1,200. You donate the 10 shares
of XYZ to the Faithful and Wise Steward Campaign. You then receive your charitable tax letter reflecting the value on the
day the transfer takes place ($1,200 +/-).
Therefore, you made a $1,200 gift to the campaign, with an actual cost of only $100!
Gifts of stock are often recommended by financial advisers because the donor is able to make a much more significant gift
than by simply writing a check! For more information or If you would like to make a gift of stock to St. Joseph Parish, please contact Pat Griffaw at the
Archdiocesan Finance Office at 314-792-7123. If you would like to make a gift of stock to our Capital Campaign, please
contact the Roman Catholic Foundation at 314-918-2890.
