It is a great honour and privilege for me to be elected the 123rd President of the Munster Branch for the 2020/21 season. I do so knowing that I have big boots to fill and follow many great names that have preceded me as President.

This year’s AGM created a bit of history with it being the first ever to be held online, another bit of history is that I am the first ever from my club Nenagh Ormond and indeed Tipperary to take this prestigious office. Unfortunately, Covid-19 has been the main headline for most of the year with everything else on a back burner, hopefully as I write this we are on the right side of it and we are returning to some sort of normal. While sport is not a matter of life or death, I think the last few months showed what an important part sport plays in all our lives.

I would like to thank all who helped me on this journey and for giving me the opportunity to represent you, to all in Nenagh Ormond for nominating me, to my wife Mary and my daughter Colleen for all the encouragement and support over many years. To the numerous people that I met from clubs, committees, and all in the wider Munster family, a big thank you for your help, advice and wise words.

Over a long number of years I have visited many rugby clubs in Munster, and for me, it’s the parents, coaches, the person that makes the sandwiches, people that sit on numerous committees and give their time and expertise voluntarily, they are the heartbeat of Munster Rugby and is what makes us unique. To all those people I wish you the very best in the season ahead. This domestic season will be different, but with it, will come positives and a new way of doing things.

Best wishes to Johann, his team, and all involved in the professional set up. Best wishes also to Ian our CEO who has the formidable task of steering us through this global crisis.

While the last decade was not kind to us for a wide and varied number of reasons, I do believe that we now have the team on and off the field to achieve great things once again.
