Serbian Spatial Planners Association organizes for the fourth time scientific and professional symposium withinternational participation in the field spatial planning and settlements.
This year the focus is on the cities in South-Eastern Europe.
Intention of organizers is the to try to gather researchers and professionals from Europe and Serbia who workwith planning of cities and other settlements, as well as experts for issues of the position of settlements,importance and role of local self-government, their impact on the closer and further surrounding areaproblems which they face in intra-urban/municipal organization.
Experiences which will be presented during the symposium can be the basis for improvement and development
of domestic practice, as well as a direction towards governing structures on all level of governance.
Intention of the organizer is to try to open, clarify and improve some questions in the domain of role and
impact of cities and urban settlements in the area of local governance in South-eastern Europe and Serbia,and also to help professionally the authorities at local level in solving the problems through numerousanalysis, conclusions and suggestions in scientific papers.
In that sense the key question of integrated development of city regions and settlements, external andinternal organization and institutional mechanisms of development, legal regulation relevant for this topic andits changes in sense of giving more responsibilities to local self-government, and moving of governance addecision focus in spatial development at local level and in certain correlation with national and regional levels.
Space of city/municipality is complex and bears numerous challenges and problems which have to be solvedthrough cooperation of experts from different fields, related in the way that their synergetic activity
contribute to quality of life in local community.
