Suggested – Any other attire or equipment the student deems necessary for him/her to comfortably and safely complete lab assignments.

cooperation, and respect. Because students are preparing for employment, it is essential that they become accustomed to standards of behavior in the workplace. At the conclusion of the term, faculty members assign separate numerical work ethics grades which appear beside the course letter grades on both transcripts and grade reports. The work ethics grading scale is as follows: 3 (Exceeds Expectations), 2 (Meets Expectations), 1 (Needs Improvement), and 0 (Unacceptable).

Classroom Policies Attendance: To receive credit for this course a student must attend

90% of the scheduled instructional time. Any student attending less than 90% of the scheduled instructional time will receive a “W” for the course if removed from the course before the quarter midterm. After the quarter midterm, any student who has maintained a passing grade within a course will receive a “WP” for the course when attending less than 90% of the scheduled instructional time. If, however, the student has not maintained a passing grade, he or she will receive a “WF” for the course. Attendance is counted from the first scheduled class meeting of each quarter.

Course Withdrawal: Students may withdraw from a course without academic

penalty until the midpoint of the term (as stated in the Academic Calendar and in the OTC Catalog and Student Handbook). By withdrawing before the midpoint of the term, the student is automatically assigned a grade of W, which does not affect term or cumulative grade point average. Grades of W will affect satisfactory academic progress for financial aid purposes. Students who stop attending class(es) without formally withdrawing risk earning a final grade of F, which will appear on the academic transcript. Refer to the OTC Catalog and Student Handbook for further details.

Food and Drink: Food and beverages (other than water) are not allowed in

classrooms/labs. Late Work: Work turned in late will lose one letter grade per class

period that it is turned in late. Missed Exams: Exams that are missed will be given during the next class

period that the student attends.

found to have engaged in academic misconduct such as cheating, plagiarism, or collusion is subject to disciplinary sanctions as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct detailed in the OTC Catalog and Student Handbook. The term “plagiarism” includes, but is not limited to, the use, by paraphrase or direct quotation, of the published or unpublished work of another person without full and clear acknowledgment. The term “collusion” includes, but is not limited to, the unauthorized collaboration with any other person in preparing work offered for academic credit. Students are advised that faculty routinely use turnitin.com both to prevent plagiarism and to assist in verifying when/if it has occurred.

Safety Students shall adhere to safety principles that will be taught in WELD 1000, Introduction to Welding. In case of emergency while on campus, please refer to the Emergency Operations and Safety Plan and the Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan found by the door of all classrooms and labs on the OTC campus.
