COMPETITIVE MUSIC FESTIVALS provide opportuni-
ties for individual talent
to be developed to its
best level. They provide
a platform for amateur
musicians and verse speak-
ers of all ages and levels,
and give an opportunity
to listen and learn from
the performance of other
competitors.
Most important is the
constructive criticism and
advice given by professional
adjudicators, helping com-
petitors to improve their
respective skills and giving
a deeper insight into their
chosen medium. It is not
really important whether
competitors achieve first,
second or third places in a
class, but the adjudicators’
remarks both on paper and
in public give a sense of
achievement and encourage
development.
Many of today’s professionals
began by entering com-
petitive festivals. Cornwall
Music Festival is proud to
name among its former com-
petitors Sir David Willcocks,
Wendy Eathorne, Alan Opie
and Benjamin Luxon.
This Festival is affiliated to the
BRITISH AND INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF FESTIVALS FOR MUSIC, DANCE & SPEECH
of which HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN is Patron

FOR OVER A CENTURY, Cornwall Music Festival has provided a platform for musicians and verse speakers of all ages to demonstrate Cornwall’s extraordinary wealth of talent.
Founded in 1910 by Lady Mary Trefusis, a keen musician who also co-founded the Association of Competition Festivals in 1904, the Festival has grown in scope over the years and is now enormous, offering well over 200 classes in an exhaustive variety of instruments and genres. This includes a Concerto Class with weekend training workshop – something we believe is almost unique among music festivals.
WE WOULD LIKE to continue offering the same breadth of opportunity to performers for another hundred years. The
Festival is run entirely on a voluntary basis and could not continue without the generous support of all our Friends, Subscribers and all those who contribute towards our ever-mounting costs, in whatever way they choose. We are most grateful.
IN ORDER to safeguard our future and help us to plan ahead with confidence, we invite you to consider supporting Cornwall Music Festival.
By enrolling as a Friend or becoming a Subscriber, you will be helping to guarantee the Festival’s future, giving some of the most talented people in Cornwall a vital opportunity to perform in public as well as giving audiences the chance to enjoy the results of their hard work and commitment.
The FRIENDS SCHEME is ideal for families. The set donation entitles an individual, couple or family to a free programme and free admission to every event during the Festival week, including the Gala Concert – especially useful when a number of children in the same family are taking part in a number of events. The Festival benefits from the guaranteed income. To enrol as a Friend for a year costs £25 for an individual, £40 for a couple or £50 for a family.
Alternatively the SUBSCRIBER SCHEME has no official lower limit to the donation, though a minimum of £10 per year is suggested. If you are a UK taxpayer, the Festival can considerably increase the benefit of your subscription by the use of Gift Aid.
