SSC is holding an online auction sale fundraising event with “Everything But the House” in September (Date to be announced). We’re in the process of collecting merchandise for the event. What to donate: Because we have limited space, ETBH suggest we limit the donated items to things that have a value over $100. Donated items must be in good working condition, contain all of their pieces and parts, and free of stains and rips. EBTH suggest the items below as the top twelve money making items for a charity event.

KY BOURBON 101 HISTORY & TASTING

There are more than 20 working distilleries in Kentucky making more than 200 of your favorite brands of KY Bourbons. That number is only growing. Each class will enjoy a A tasting. STANDUP COMEDY 101 Monday, Sept. 21st, 28th, Oct 5th

12:00 pm Cost: $25.00 Learn how to make your own stories hilarious, write and deliver jokes, timing and delivery, how to charm an audience and how different shows are structured. At the end of the class, students will perform five minutes of their routine at Pro-Am Night Go Bananas Comedy Club in Montgomery’s (behind the Camargo Cadillac Dealership). FLORAL ARRANGMENTS 9:30am - 11:30am $45.00 per class (Includes all materials except tools) Learn basics of floral arranging with Kathy Morrissey owner of Eastgate Flowers & Gifts. In this three course series you will learn the following techniques: Class #1 - Monday, Sept. 21st Learn hands on basics of floral arranging by creating a beautiful vase of fall flowers. Class #2 - Monday, Oct. 12th Challenge your creativity, create a structured flower arrangement in a basket style using floral foam. Class #3 - Monday, Nov. 9th Design a wreath suitable for the Holiday season using silk materials and artificial pine wreath.

DRAWING THE HUMAN FORM Tuesday Sept 15th, 22nd, 29th, Oct. 6th, 13th, 20th make up class Oct. 27th $37. 00 for member $57.00 for nonmember 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm The human form, like any figure, is easy to draw when you break it down into its most basic shapes: ovals, circles, and rectangles. This course covers drawing heads, faces (a Portrait) and bodies (figure drawing) using live models. Instructor: Ms. Myrtle Blankenbuehler. RSVP 984 -1234.

CLAY - A UNIQUE POTTERY VASE September 18th and October 2nd 10:00am - 12:00 pm Cost: $45 Limited to 15 people

Design a pottery vase with impressions of your favorite garden plants from clay slabs and add texture by em-bossing it with sprigs of vegetation. Your vase will be bisque-fired before the second class, where you will stain and glaze it to highlight the textured surface. After a glaze-firing it's ready for you to pick-up. Your finished piece will be approximately 4" in diameter and 8" tall. Bring a few of your own plant sprigs or use those provid-ed by the instructor. The instructor, Rick Hoffman, after 20 years of exhibiting work and teaching, built Covington Clay, a teaching studio and gallery. Register 984-1234.

CPR CERTIFICATION Saturday, Sept. 12th or Oct. 10th $25, payable by cash or check during class Free to Blue Ash residents Blue Ash Fire Department North 10647 Kenwood Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45242 SSC is partnering with the Blue Ash Fire Department to offer our members CPR Classes. The skills covered in class include rescue breathing, CPR, AED use, and first aid for choking victims. Class is taught using lecture, videos, and practice on rescue mannequins. There is a written test at the end of class. Participants will receive a certification card from the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) that is current for 2 years. We begin with dinner at the Cock & Bull Public House on Hyde Park Square. Next, our private

tour of the Observatory by the Outreach Astrono-mer and co-host of the syndicated astronomy

program Star Gazers, Dean Regas. The main tele-scopes are an 11” Merz and Mahler refractor made in 1843 and a 16” Alvan Clark refractor

from 1904. The historic buildings are recognized as a National Historic Landmark. The Moon will

be in the first quarter with a good position to view Saturn. Buildings are handicap accessible to

the first floors but have 5 steps into one dome. We’ll use the one with 5 steps but for those

willing there are 25 steps into the other dome.

WRITERS, READERS, AND BUYERS OF BOOKS: A WOW TO ENJOY! Wednesday, Oct. 7th Here’s a mini-festival of writing in the Greater Cincinnati area. Local Award winning authors presenting include Wendy Beckman, Linda Leopold Strauss, John Brackett, Kerrie Logan Hollihan, and Connie Trountstine. Their genres include fic-tion and nonfiction, history, detective, adult, young adult (YA), and children’s. You’ll also meet Sandy Bolek, who’ll explain “Books by the Banks” and Betsy Schramm of “The Book Shelf” in Madeira, who’ll provide info on several topics, including local publishers. Ms. Strauss will also give her thoughts on writing groups. A koffee klatch is planned, and books will be available. Moderator: Carolyn Nightin-gale, OLLI WOW committee member.

ODDITIES OF ENGLAND Wednesday, Oct. 14th This presentation is designed to explode the myth that the English are still the conservative, prim and proper people depicted in so many ways by popular media and novels. Hear fascinating stories of the women behind the Kennedy men: Rose, Ethel, Joan, Jackie, and Vicki. Monday, Sept. 14th 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Free In honor of National Senior Center Month, SSC will host the Sycamore Film festival a cinematic celebration that focuses on bringing awareness to Ageism. Each of the 5 short films shown are winners in the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) film short Competition on Ageism. The festival is a showcase to illuminate specific discriminatory practices against seniors or prejudicial attitudes toward the aging process and institutional practices that perpetuate stereotypes about seniors. A discussion will follow.
