INTRODUCTION 7

2. INTRODUCTION

With SVAB Tiltrotator control, you principally control the tiltrotator’s functions, although the system can also be supplemented with wheel or track control. The controls are governed by joysticks equipped with proportional rollers. The rollers make it possible to control the functions proportionally, i.e. the speed increases in proportion with the sideways movement of the joystick roller. This method of control means that the operator can drive his machine more gently and adaptively. It also entails better precision and significantly improved ergonomics for the operator.

10 JOYSTICKS

5. JOYSTICKS

This section describes at a basic level how you via the machines joysticks influence and control functions on the machine with SVAB Tiltrotator Control GPC.

The joysticks contain sensitive electronics and should be handled with care. Never expose the joysticks to moisture or severe dirt.

5.1 THE JOYSTICKS ROLLERS AND BUTTONS

With the joysticks rollers and buttons you can influence and control the machine connected attachments and in some cases, machine functions.

Example of a joystick grip with but-tons and roller

JOYSTICKS 11

5.2 THE JOYSTICK ROLLER - HOW IT WORKS

The roller is spring-loaded, meaning that if you move the roller in one direction and then release the roller, it will return to its neutral position.

When you move the roller you affect the roller- assigned function variably, ie, the more you move the roller, the faster the function moves. The change in speed is smooth and supple.

The placement of the rollers on the joystick can vary, but rollers positioned in the joysticks back side for thumb control and a roller positioned in the joysticks front, controlled by the index finger, is common.

The number of rollers on a joystick can also vary.

Joystick wheel

5.3 SHIFT FUNCTION Buttons are generally used to enable or disable a function directly, for example, to activate the machine horn, but a button can also be used to temporarily shift a roller’s assigned function to control another function.

Possible shifted functions are seen on the joystick layout ( 12).

EXAMPLE OF A SHIFT FUNCTION

1 One example is a roller that normally controls the tilt function on a tiltrotator.

2 You press a shift button that is assigned to this roller. The roller tempo-rarily changes its func-tion to instead control the tiltrotator’s built-in grapple.

7. TILTROTATOR CONTROL

This section describes at a basic level how you can use the machines joysticks to control the tiltrotator.

SVAB Tiltrotator Control GPC is primar-ily designed to control a tiltrotator. This is usually done with the aid of two rollers on the joysticks. You control the tiltrotators functions by moving these rollers. Usu-ally the rotation is controlled with your left thumb roller and the tilt with the right thumb roller. Always ensure that you are aware of the joystick layout ( 12) before you use the tiltrotator.

When you move the roller in a direction you affect the rotor/tilt variably, ie, the more you move the roller, the faster the function moves. The change in speed is smooth and supple.

How the tiltrotator is activated may vary depending on the machine type, but in many cases the tiltrotator is activated when the machines digging function is activated.
