Meanwhile, early January included a few SGC events. Brigitte Paine hosted a wonderful Executive Committee and Committee Chairpersons dinner at her home, still beautifully decorated for the holidays, on the 6th. After a delicious dinner, those present, pictured below, were updated on plans for our 20th Anniversary Celebration in April. Chris G. and Joanne G. also led the group discussion about budgeting for spring and our next program year with more to follow on this effort by Treasurer Joan S. Writing amidst negligible snow cover and daytime temperatures in the 40's and forecasted to continue so for the next week, one wonders how this winter will prove to be in terms of climate change concerns, though at least we are receiving some relief to the extended drought. The Blackstone Valley Garden Club will be hosting the Sutton Garden Club for this event. Wayne Mezitt of Weston Nurseries, Hopkinton, Ma, is the current chairman of Weston Nurseries and his specialties include woody trees and shrubs and winter-hardy rhododendrons and azaleas. We look forward to learning about these garden beauties from this national expert.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Sutton Garden Club! In order to make this a truly special event and celebration, we need to plan together. What can you do to contribute? Are you a party planner, historian, story teller, baker, decorator, interviewer? We will be putting together the history of the Sutton Garden Club as seen through the eyes of past and current members: programs, picnics and destinations! Other messages and happenings…

On Saturday morning at 9am, 1/7, the Christmas decorations were taken down from the bandstand on the Sutton common. Many thanks to Dale and Glen Coulter who take responsibility for this project. Dale and Glen not only organize putting up the decorations, they also transport and store all the ornaments, lights, swags and bows used in the beautiful display. Thanks also to Sharon and Dennis Kling, Joan Stone and Lisa Gauvin for helping. This is a very important community service that our club provides to all the residents of the Town of Sutton., and we are thankful to our members that support this effort and one another. An Invitation from Helen and the Grafton Garden Club Thursday, March 9, 7 pm Pot Herbs and Simples: A Selection of Culinary and Medicinal Herbs of the Nineteenth Century Christie Higginbottom, presenter A slide-illustrated lecture describing common herbs grown in kitchen gardens, gathered from woods and fields, and used by nineteenth- century housekeepers in food preparation and home remedies. Christie will include cultivation information to assist gardeners wishing to grow these herbs in their gardens. Co-sponsored with the Grafton Historical Society Location: Grafton Community Barn, 37 Wheeler Rd., No. Grafton Chair: Nancy Therrien and Helen Blazis Refreshments: Cost: $5 donation

The 20th Anniversary Committee is busy putting together an overall view of the club using pictures from the past and present. Do you have any pictures from SGC events that you would like to share? Please submit your pictures by Thursday, February 9th. The pictures can be put on a stick (to be returned to you) and give to Karen Roux at the next club meeting.
