Penang still conjures the perect holiday destinationor anyone. Tis is where ood and places o interestscollide wonderully well in terms o accessibility, valueor money ulfillment, saety and options. Optionsmeans that you are spoiled or choice in whatever youwant to do even with so little time. So how many daysshould you actually need to spend on this island oncedubbed the Pearl O Te Orient and a destinationeven more popular nowadays afer it was proclaimeda UNESCO Heritage site a ew years ago ? It was aboon or the local tourism industry and whats even

better is that the government (both state & Federal )have put greater efforts and unds to improve on theexisting inrastructure that has been needing a lot ocaretaking, rehabilitating as well as providing goodaccessibility to reach these places.

Te best part about Penangs most scenic attractionsis that they are all reachable quite conveniently via thepublic bus services. Te most central part o Penang isthe most easiest place to convene to start off your citytour because that is where George own, the capital oPenang is historically located rom the day the Britishcolonial masters, ounded it in 1786 by Sir CaptainFrancis Light.

You will be surprised to know too that the most

pleasurable and exotic way to arrive on the Island isneither by air, nor by driving over the bridge, but viaone o the double-decker erries plying the narrowchannel between the island and the mainland. Cars andmotorcycles pack the lower deck while commuters onoot head or the upper deck where they sit on woodenslatted benches. Tese erries carry names o Malaysianislands like Pulau Undan, Pulau alang, ,Pulau Kapasand Pulau Angsa to name just a ew.

Once you arrived at the Penang Jetty side, you canchoose your own directions or centerings to kick startyour walkabout tour o Penang and you will be surprisedthat you dont need to be street smart to get lost in acolourul and riendly city such as Penang. Street signage

was something that every tourists appreciated andwelcomed with ease because it makes a huge differencewhen youre trying to find your own way between theattractions that you can easily find out where you are.Penang seems like a small place especially when youare around Georgetown. I would like to call this areathe Colonial Enclave. Here you are taken back in timeas you witness some o the most beautiul 18th centurybuildings ever erected in this part o the world.

Visiting Penang also means that you can really enjoyeating at the quaint and charming places whether it isin an old ca, a traditional kopitiam in a modernshopping complex or even in the crowded open airnight markets or waterront hawker centres offeringendless mouth watering choices o local ares and

international award recognition culinary accolades thatis also an enriched Penang heritage. From its chicken

rice speciality to nasi kandar to ice kacang, luscious laksato popiah, the tastes o Penang is something you must goor and not the commercialized McDonalds or Starbucksmenu even though the American ast ood giants are asubiquitous as it would be the school children. I you havethat available chance, do get on to enjoy a trishaw rideor that once in a lietime experience. Such three wheelerront passenger loading carts were once status symbolmodes o transportation or the Penang high societybut should it not have been or the tourism demandsand its probable extinction awareness and concerns, the

Penang trishaws would have lost its place on the streets.Nowadays, the old trishaw riders are obviously a dyingbreed and as a consolation, you might not even want tohaggle over their generous are i you happen to use theirservices.Penang like Melaka, both share their common bondand enriching Peranakan cultures whose heritage arewell preserved as seen through their museums, estivals, culinary easts as well as the century old residences. Asa reeport during colonial times, Penang has emergedto become one o the most important trading postcomplementing the new economic developments inMalaya during those times. What Penang has achievedtoday is the desire to continue an everlasting legacyo hope, hard work and success that speak on the

importance o tourism development it has achieved tomake it as one o the most popular tourist destinationsin Malaysia. In 2012, the Indonesians topped the ranking

o tourist arrivals with 234,703 tourists. Singapore andChina came in second and third with 98,777 and 43,676tourists respectively. Other countries that made it tothe list o the top 10 were Japan, US, aiwan, Australia,Tailand, UK and India.George own was the first town in the then Malayato receive city status, by a royal charter granted byQueen Elizabeth II, just beore the country achievedindependence. For that reason, you ofen hear it beingcalled the City o George own, especially among the

locals. With over 2000 people on every square kilometre,Penang is the most densely populated state in Malaysia. Some o the most visited places on the island havelong lasting impressions which makes it as a potentialdestination to incur repeat visitations by its visitors, beit local or overseas. While in Penang, these places area must to visit - Dharmikarama Buddhist emple, KekLok Si emple, ropical Spice Garden, Jubilee Clockower, Penang Hill, Penang Bazaar, Cheong Fatt zeMansion, Khoo Kongsi, Fort Cornwallis, Te PenangMuseum, the E & O Hotel.

Penang will always be one o my avorite places to visitin the country. You can find history here, explore theflea market, strolling by the sandy beach, eating the bestlocal ood, experience the tram car ride but most o all

you can do what you want to do, all within and aroundyou.

provide a proper idea o Deer Caves immensity, and sowriters and scientists have invented an ever-growinglexicon o visual comparisons -- largely attached tohumankinds own colossi. With a length o over 2kilometers, a width o up 150 meters, and a ceiling thatreaches 120 meters, the Cave can reputedly contain five

St. Pauls Cathedrals, over 20 Boeing 747 jumbo jets, andour Houston Astrodomes. o these I offer an altogethernon-quantiable comparison (which I hope I may beforgiven for). Deer Cave would have made a perfect basefor the Rebel Alliance. It has a rear entrance, and HanSolo could have easily piloted the Millenium Falcon intoits mouth and still had plenty o room to land. It takes 40minutes to walk rom one end to the other.

Inside the cave was a world in itsel, complete withhills and valleys, plains and forests (because of thehuge entrance, there is enough light or trees to grow aquarter-mile in). ere is a sizeable creek, which turnsinto a river when it rains heavily. Deer Cave even has ametropolis-sized population, consisting o an estimated1.8 million wrinkle-nosed bats, who stream out o the

entrance every day at 6pm sharp to spend the nightfeeding in the forest. (Later on, we would stand outsidethe cave and watch them leave in a single stream thatsnaked across the pale evening sky and took an hourto get from head to tail). e tiny bats are barely visiblewhile they roost in crevices ar above, but they haveclearly lef their mark on the terrain below. Bat guano,a ertile and pungent powder, covers the entire floor othe cave. In one place, there is a hill o it at least 20 eethigh, and its rusty color turns the caves interior into alandscape more reminiscent o Mars than Earth.

Te final pleasure was a view o Deer Caves backentrance, called Adam and Eve Forest. Beneath a hugenatural doorway was an impossibly lush stand o trees.

Dwared by the huge entrance, the trees, some o whichwere nearly 100 eet in height, looked like decorations ona train set. Falling straight down rom the ceiling was amystical waterall, dubbed Adam & Eves shower.

In Mulu, they have caves or claustrophobes, and i yougo you must see them !

Te Gunung Mulu National Park is home to one o theworlds most extraordinary cave systems in the world.Te park, which is as large as Singapore, is also anincomparable place to experience the wonders o theMalaysian rain orest, the oldest on Earth. o get there,

you can either take a bus rom the sleepy city o Miri, ollowed by a boat rides up the Baram River - or takea twenty minute plane ride rom Miri. Te plane rideis by ar the most popular method, because on a clearday the pilot will buzz the parks most striking above-ground eature, a serrated ridge o towering peakscalled the Pinnacles. Once you get to Mulu, there aretwo places to stay: either in the lodges just outside thepark, or in the Royal Mulu Resort, a comortable, tree-house o a hotel situated in the middle o the jungle.

Te Caves, by ar, are the parks biggest draw. Tey arelike nothing else, a must see attraction you can neverfind anywhere else in the world..

Tere are our caves open to the general public in GunungMulu, each with its own unique attraction. Te first stopwas the smallest, called Langs Cave, which is known orits limestone ormations. Tis cave was discovered byJacobs cousin, a Berawan man named - yes - Lang. Agifed hunter, Lang was tracking a wild boar up the sideo the mountain when he came across the cave. When hesaw its size and the amazing limestone ormations nearits mouth, he knew he had ound something special, buttold no one o his discovery. He got selfish somebodyexplained. Tere were so many boar living near the cavethat every time he went hunting he came back successul. It made him look good with the women, so kept it waskept as a secret. But the other men in the tribe finallyprodded Lang into revealing the secret spot. Afer that, word o the cave spread quickly.

Next there was the Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave.Wind Cave is named afer the cool breeze that ans romits entrance, and amed or its unusual calcite ormations.Te ormations here were less abundant than in LangsCave, but much larger. In a chamber called the KingsRoom were impressive stalactites and stalagmitesthat looked like polished chandeliers and candlesticks.Clearwater Cave, a stones throw away, was much moreimpressive. With 107 kilometers o passage, it is easily thelongest cave in Asia, the tenth longest in the world. Itsname comes rom crystalline water o the roaring riverinside, which is purified as it passes through hundreds oeet o limestone. Near the entrance there is also a small, emerald pool - perect or a soothing dip afer walking

    through jungle heat.

Te last cave o the day was called Deer Cave.Claustrophobia did not exist there. Standing inside, itssheer volume almost induces spacial disorientation. It isthe largest cave passage known to man, and its magnitudedefies all description. No photograph has been able to

Melaka, Malaysias oldest city, is just two hours southo Kuala Lumpur and about our hours northwest oSingapore. Here lies the unique oundation o vibrantmulticulturalism, which dates back to centuries ovarying western colonialism and regal superpowerSultanate, It offers the international visitors a meltingpot o historical attractions much sought afer thesedays a cultural heritage living museum endorsedby UNESCO. .

Te hub o Malaccas civic colonial sites is o course theimposing Dutch Square also called the Red Squaredue to the colour o its buildings where tourists posein ront o the century-old Queen Victoria Fountainand as trishaws gaily decorated with colourul plasticflowers to the canned blaring music that accompanythe riders and their loads o passengers strode along the

nearby ruins o the AFamosa ort, one o Asias oldestEuropean-built structures, erected by the Portuguese500 years ago, and the imposing Stadthuys, or town hall, built by the Dutch in 1650 and later painted salmon redby the British, Melaka s last oreign rulers, whose reignlasted until 1957.

On the west side of the Malacca River, which anksthe square, along the old centers narrow, atmosphericstreets, are hundreds o lantern-hung shophouses, somedistinctly Chinese in style, others bearing geometric ArtDeco trademarks, and grand residences with ornatelytiled stoops built by wealthy amilies o the past. Forcenturies, these streets served as the towns commercialand residential center. Te most prolific o modernestablishments near the Melaka River is of course thenew Hard Rock Caf and e Casa del Rio Hotel which

Jonker WalkA denite haven for antique collectors and bargain hunters.

Authentic artifacts and relics, some dating as far back as 300

years, can be found among a host of interesting collectibles,

each with its own history and mystery..Jalan Hang Jebat, for-

merly known as Jonker Street, is known worldwide among se-

rious antique collectors as one of the best places to hunt and

bargain for antiques. Recently, a new wave of cafes and craft

shops have sprouted on this street, lending it a cultured air of

    old-meets-new.

Melaka River CruiseThe river was the main artery of trade for Melaka in its heyday

when it was bustling with traders from all around the world.

Some buildings from that era still stand majestically by the riv-

er, which is also lined by old villages, or kampungs, and mod-

ern day buildings. The 45-minute cruise is accompanied by an

entertaining and informative commentary. And, for just RM8,

its a good bargain. See parts of historical Melaka, get a history

lesson for next to nothing, and never break a sweat!

St.Pauls Hill (AFamosa)The Portuguese colonised Mel-

aka from 1511 to 1641. The rst

thing they did was build a fort

    overlooking the river, calling it

    AFamosa. As Melaka was the

    centre of struggles between

super powers of the time, and

    suffered the constant threat of

    attack, the AFamosa fort was

    critical in Portugal maintaining

its colonial foothold in the Far

East. Within the fort walls were

housing and food stores, a castle,

a meeting room for the Portu-guese Council and ve churches.

    A seven-month attack by the

    Dutch just about destroyed the

    entire fortress, leaving only the

    entrance faade and the structure

of a church at the top of the hill.

    St.Johns Fort

Rebuilt by the Dutch in the 18th century, St. Johns Fort was

once a private Portuguese chapel dedicated to St. John the

Baptist. The fort has an interesting feature - cannons face in-

land as, during that time, attacks on Melaka came mainly from

the hinterland instead of from the sea. Another attraction for

many is the view from the top of the hill where St. Johns Fort

stands, particularly for the fantastic tropical sunsets.

have added a new entertainment liestyle or touristsvisiting the city.

Te Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum, in a grand, preserved residence on Heeren Street (ociallyknown as Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock), pays tribute toPeranakans, a group o wealthy, sophisticated amiliesthat arose rom the intermarrying o Babas, or Chinesetraders, and Nyonyas, or local residents. Te Peranakansorged a distinct East-meets-West culture that representsmuch o what makes Malacca so ascinating: a racialand religious multiculturalism thats been cultivated andhonored or centuries.

Tis rich cultural heritage is also being celebrated innew lodging options. In 2009, a 100-year-old residentialproperty down the street was converted into the 14-

room Courtyard @ Heeren hotel, which blends era-appropriate urnishings with modern amenities.

Perhaps the most glaring example is Jonker Street, ocially called Jalan Hang Jebat. Once known for itsantiques shops, the strip now draws tour groups trawlingstores stocked with Birkenstock knockoffs, batik linensand cheeky -shirts with sayings like, I YouubeMySpace, Ill Google Your Yahoo. Its particularlyraucous on weekends, when a ood and retail nightmarket takes over. It is the most popular Pasar Malamhaunt in Melaka.

As someone mentioned Once you step into Malacca, you can eel the positive energy, Foreigners, once theycome here, they dont want to go home. And how truesuch a remark is !

    GE O KNOWYOU

Most people would think that accountantsperorm the same activities every day in theoce but heading the overall nance department

requires a passion to meet your utmost dedicationwith the people you work with and the clientsthat your company possess but within thecommon job description o the people workingunder his jurisdiction, he sees that repetitionbuilds experience, skill and eciency in mostemployees job scope. According to Mr Ariff oncehis staff becomes more experienced, their dailyskills become more diverse as they develop skillsto address their job perormances.

Mr Ariff Mohammad proudly mentioned abouthis main job responsibility, citing that it is thesystematic management o the companys cash

flow, collection, monitoring clients accounts, managing daily MIS, orecasting as well asbudgeting in one single statement..

As an ongoing personal desire to accomplish hisproessional qualifications, Mr Ariff Mohammad

is currently attending his CIMA classes and in theevent when there is no class he will be spending hisspare time with amily going out or a wholesome

movie or enjoying his avorite satay snacks atdinner time. He admits that his career gives himpositive effects on his physical and mental attitudeand this is due to his ability to manage and balanceboth career and personal lie well. o him hiscareer is something o a proessional passion butdeended that his amilys priorities come first andwill not compromise them or anything less.As ar as his hobbies are concerned, he hasnothing much to elaborate except that he indulgesonly in the racquet game especially badmintonwhile adoring Lin Dan as his avorite sportsidol and Amazing Race as his favorite television

programme..He believes that he is still too young to giveany sort o proessional advice to anyone whointends to take up an accountant position butsince the question was raised, he responded

rather objectively : Anyone who wants to be anaccountant need to develop to become a personwho will able to to oresee things and must learn

to develop in depth knowledge on any industrythey are in to .

On a parting note Mr Ariff Mohammad havethese visionary and wise words to say about theCompany:My vision or Sutra is to enhance the financeand accounting process and provide valueproposition in increasing profit. Aspirationor my department is to develop the teammembers knowledge in finance and accountingand improve their individual skill on their dailyroutine task.

We wish him good luck and good appetite tosuccess or Mr Ariff Mohammad s current anduture undertakings.

Mr Ariff Mohammad, who is the Senior Finance Consultant at Sri Sutra ravel Sdn Bhd is not your typical finance personnel headyou would find in a modern corporate office, more so especially or a travel agency establishment. Why ? Because while many steeringfinancial positions are ofen minded by their own relatives or immediate amilies, the position that Mr Ariff Mohammad is helmingcalls or a very tall responsibility especially so or the entire Sutra amily business. Immaculate and well dressed Mr Ariff Mohammadis the new generation o young accountants who is not only well qualified in his educational attributes but who also possessed excellentoral and written communication skills, together with his strong and savvy computer skills.
