INSTRUCTIONS

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

Original Formula & Botanical Polymerized Tung OilThe concept for finishing these instruments is to saturate the wood with Tung Oil. We recommend either the Original Formula Polymerized Tung Oil Sealer or the Botanical Polymerized Tung Oil Sealer. The difference in the two formulations is the solvent. The Original Formula is petroleum solvent and the Botanical is our proprietary citrus solvent, Di-Citrusol™ They can be used interchangeably providing adequate moisture protection without compromising the resonance. The instruments are usually placed in a container of Tung Oil to soak for a period of time then they are withdrawn, wiped and racked to cure.

Original Formula & Botanical Polymerized Tung OilWe recommend either Original Polymerized Tung Oil or Botanical Polymerized Tung Oil. The difference in the two formulations is the solvent. The Original Formula is petroleum solvent and the Botanical is our proprietary citrus solvent, Di-Citrusol™ They can be used interchangeably to create a hand-rubbed natural look. These finishes keep the wood protected and responsive with minimal surface build. Different levels of sheens are possible.

Murdoch’s Hard Sealer or Uralkyd 500 Floor FinishSome drums require a highly polished appearance that needs to be extremely hard. The Murdoch’s line offers the best approach for achieving this goal. Murdoch’s Hard Sealer applied as the initial coats enhance the grain definition that is often characteristic of the wood species chosen for drums. The final appearance is produced by the choice of topcoat. Murdoch’s Uralkyd 500 Gloss or Satin provide maximum protection and a mirror-like finish with a brush-on application.

Murdoch’s Hard Sealer or Uralkyd 500 Floor FinishGuitar and mandolin makers either favor the softer feel of the Polymerized Tung Oil or the more durable surface build of the Murdoch’s line. The Polymerized Tung Oil is preferred on the neck of the instruments and Murdoch’s on the body. The electric guitar builders favor the brilliant, high polish and maximum durability of the Murdoch’s line. Murdoch’s Hard Sealer is applied to enhance the grain definition, followed by Murdoch’s Table Top or Uralkyd 500 Gloss to create the brilliant, high polished look. Polymerized Tung Oil is the desired choice when more resonance is required of the instrument.
