Université Laval’s Sustainable Development Fund provides financial support for sustainability initiatives from the university community. The Fund was created as part of the University’s long-term strategy to put innovative and sustainable actions and measures in place in its operations and campus environment. This year the Fund provided support to nearly 60 initiatives.

UL TEACHING APIARY

Ten colonies of domestic honeybees (20,000 insects) now make their home in the teaching apiary located on the Campus Farm run by the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences. The teaching apiary offers new educational and research opportunities in api-culture at UL. In addition to teaching the public about the crucial role bees play in our food ecosystems, the apiary is also an impor-tant source of action research projects.

THE SPOT 2018

The SPOT (Sympathique place ouverte à tous) is an initiative by students at UL’s Faculty of Planning, Architecture, Art and Design. With its free activities, this pop-up social space is part of a broader trend toward using public space as a social gathering place to encourage people from diverse backgrounds and cultures to come together.

UL will continue its sustainability efforts with the communities it works with, taking concrete actions to support SD initiatives through living laboratories and multidisciplinary projects. Sustainable mobility, sustainable health, and responsible entrepreneurship and engagement are among the University’s priority areas in the years ahead.

Their objective is to support, guide, and document the renovation and modernization of Québec’s primary and secondary schools to create school environments conducive to the academic success and wellbeing of all.

Sustainability runs deep in the university community. Now more than ever, people from every discipline are coming together to work on issues that matter to everyone, like sustainable health and sustainable mobility.
