We are doing great things at our center.

We have over 100 free range bikes for you to ride around JSC for

your own wellness as well as saving fuel. JSC has reduced its

footprint by demolishing old, energy intense buildings, and we’ve

built a new clinic and are working on the new Human Health &

Performance Building and a Combined Heat & Power Generator.

Our first electric fleet vehicle has been ordered from the GSA.

Water recirculation projects are saving millions of gallons of water.

And we continue to divert over 60% of our waste from landfills.

Read the FY2016 Sustainability Engagement Strategy

to discover even more ways to live, work, and play more

sustainably.

For those that celebrate this time of year with a tree, there are environmental

impact pros and cons to your tree of choice. Consider these tips from

ChristmasTreeAssociation.org before cutting and/or buying:

1. Purchase locally grown Christmas trees if possible.

2. Consider “Tree miles.” How far did the tree travel to get to your home? How far did

you travel to get it?

3. If you have purchased more than nine cut trees over the last nine years, consider

purchasing an artificial tree to minimize your environmental impacts.

4. If you own an artificial tree, make sure and keep it in use for at least six to nine years.

If you plan to replace an artificial tree, donate it before you dispose of it.

5. Properly dispose of your natural cut Christmas tree by checking with your local waste

authority.

Consider green gifts like http://eartheasy.com/gifts and purchase locally made products where ever possible.

HOW CAN I BE

MORE SUSTAINABLE?

Calculate your ecological footprint! How many

Earth’s does it take to sustain your lifestyle if everyone in the world lived like you?

“My goal as the JSC Center Operations

Director is to create a working environment

where JSC employees feel happy,

comfortable, and productive to support our

mission. Similarly, my vision for sustainability is

that it’s something we don’t even think about;

it’s ingrained in our thinking. We just do it.”
