The agenda was as follows: 1. Overviews and objectives of UDISHA Club and Innovation Sankul. 2. Allocation to faculty about 8 to 10 groups, consisting 3 to 5 students for Industrial Shodh Yatra. 3. To design an algorithm to map group of students and mentor to a specific industry/MSME. 4. Identification of Industry Defined Problems (IDP) as 7 th and 8 th semester project assignment and its incentives. 5. Documentation and submission of IDP to GTU by end of July. 6. Proposing the names of Directors of Surat Sankul for Degree Engineering, Diploma, Pharmacy, MBA and MCA. The principals of all different colleges and the eminent industrialists were appreciated this unique idea of GTU. The 1st meeting of Surat GTU Innovation Sankul was held on 21–05–2011 chaired by Dr. K.N.

Mistry at Sarvajanik College of Engineering & Technology at Surat. Shri Rajnikant Marfatia,

The Chairman of Sarvajanik Education Society and Shri Kashyap Mehta, The Vice Chairman-II,

Sarvajanik Education Society were present in the meeting.

The agenda was as follows:

1. Overviews and objectives of UDISHA Club and Innovation Sankul.

2. Allocation to faculty about 8 to 10 groups, consisting 3 to 5 students for Industrial

Shodh Yatra.

3. To design an algorithm to map group of students and mentor to a specific

industry/MSME.

4. Identification of Industry Defined Problems (IDP) as 7th and 8th semester project

assignment and its incentives.

5. Documentation and submission of IDP to GTU by end of July.

6. Proposing the names of Directors of Surat Sankul for Degree Engineering, Diploma,

Pharmacy, MBA and MCA.

The principals of all different colleges and the eminent industrialists were appreciated this

unique idea of GTU. They were also opined that the teaching learning concept for the final

year students shall definitely useful to the students at large.

Agenda 1

Overviews and objectives of UDISHA Club and Innovation Sankul.

Discussion Dr. K.N. Mistry has discussed about the UDISHA Club and expressed his views and benefits of UDISHA Club and asked all the Principals and/or Representative of the Colleges about their activities going on under the banner. Prof. Utpal Pandya from SCET hads given overview of the UDISHA Club and expressed that the same will also give a platform to the existing faculty members to make them updated as per industry scenario.

Prof. Shabbir Ghadiali from SCET has given a power point presentation before the members giving the information of activities uptill they had done under UDISHA Club banner. He has also updated ten short term programme proposed by Continuous Education & Entrepreneurship Development Cell (CEED Cell) under GTU. The UDISHA Club objectives would be –

“To make every college a medium of facilitating learning in domains of Technology and Management by utilizing its existing resources and by arranging for expert trainers to meet the training needs of its clients, hence helping the society and creating niche space for itself in the field of Professional Training, to begin with, later on developing an Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation Cell”

Creation of Innovational Sankul is a unique idea of GTU which is greatly accepted by the Colleges and industry. The members present were opined that many problems from the industry can be solved without expensing anything and in return the students will get a practical knowledge and solution of problems more practically.

Agenda 2 Allocation to faculty about 8 to 10 groups, consisting 3 to 5 students for Industrial Shodh Yatra. Discussion Dr. K.N. Mistry has advised all the colleges to make the group of 3 to 5 students for Industrial Shodh Yatra and requested to appoint one mentor (faculty member) for 8 to 10 groups to guide them.

– Prof. Jayesh V. Deshkar, Ex-Pro VC of VNSGU has suggested to depute the faculties during vacation period to visit industries.

– Prof. D.B. Naik from SVNIT has expressed his views that it is very difficult to accommodate such large number of students in the industries for the project work.

– Dr. Anish Gandhi, I/c Principal, CKPCET has reported Dr. K.N. Mistry that they have already started to write the request letters to the industries to accommodate their students for project work.

Agenda 3

To design an algorithm to map group of students and mentor to a specific industry/MSME.

Discussion Dr. K.N. Mistry has advised all the colleges to design an algorithm to map group of students and mentors for their relevant field of industry/MSME.

Agenda 4 Identification of Industry Defined Problems (IDP) as 7th and 8th semester project assignment and its incentives. Discussion Identification of Industry Defined Problems (IDP) is an important element in the project work of 7th and 8th semester studies. The idea of IDP is to give the benefit to the industry without any cost and in return students shall get the practical kind of knowledge.

– Mr. Hetal Mehta, the eminent industrialist of the city has suggested 1 week of continuous industry visit for the students instead of 4 hours per week.

– Prof. Jayesh V. Deshkar, Ex-Pro VC of VNSGU has suggested to make mandatory involvement of faculty members in IDP issues to get best results.

– Mr. Rajendra Chokhawala has suggested six months of deputation for the students to understand the industry problems sincerely.

– Ms. Kavita Shah, General Manager (HRD), Luthra Group of Companies has opined that the institutions are required to motivate the students to join the new drive of IDP.

– Mr. Sailesh Khawani, CEO, GEPIL, has emphasized on the practical coaching instead of academic teaching system.

– There was also a discussion that ‘can industries give us the problem on which students

can work out for solutions’.

– Mr. Kamal Desai, Garden Silk Mills has suggested to maintain strong and regularly updated database of alumnies. They can liaison between students, institute and industry (where they are working) for developing IDPs of the students and giving technical guidance.

Agenda 5 Documentation and submission of IDP to GTU by end of July. Discussion Identification of Industry Defined Problems (IDP) is an important element in the project work of 7th and 8th semester studies. The idea of IDP is to give the benefit to the industry without any cost and in return students shall get the practical kind of knowledge. Dr. K.N. Mistry has informed all the members to submit their IDP to GTU by the end of July in the prescribed format to GTU by end of July.

Agenda 6

Proposing the names of Directors of Surat Sankul for Degree Engineering, Diploma, Pharmacy,

MBA and MCA.

Discussion Dr. K.N. Mistry has conveyed the message to all the members regarding need of appointment of Directors of Surat Sankul for Degree Engineering, Diploma, Pharmacy, MBA and MCA. The form for position of Directors was circulated to all and requested to submit the same latest by 25–05–2011. The meeting was ended by the vote of thanks by Prof. Persi Engineer, Principal, Faculty of Architecture.
