St. Benedict Catholic School in Atchison will receive the 2019 Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann CEF School of Excellence Award at this year’s Gaudeamus dinner.

The School of Excellence committee evaluates each school’s application based on the following criteria: Joyfully Catholic, Diligently Achieving, Intentionally Self-Giving, Prudently Managed, and Forwardly Thinking. All of the CEF elementary schools apply for the annual award.

Finalists for this year’s award were Resurrection Catholic School at the Cathedral, Kansas City and St. Gregory the Great Catholic School, Marysville.

The annual Gaudeamus (“Let us rejoice”) gala will bring together Catholic education supporters from throughout the Archdiocese in a celebration of Catholic schools on Saturday, OCTOBER 26, 2019 at the Overland Park Convention Center.

Funds raised at Gaudeamus go to scholarships for students in need attending CEF-supported schools in Northeast Kansas. This year, CEF will provide more than $2.4 MILLION to support about 1,500 students.

Gaudeamus has ranked as one of Kansas City’s TOP TEN EVENTS for eight consecutive years, according to The Independent. In 2018, Gaudeamus ranked #5.

This year’s event will honor KATHLEEN A. O’HARA, PH.D. who served as Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas from 2003-2019 and was an active member of CEF’s Board of Directors.

Eligible donors making a qualified donation to the Catholic Education Foundation can receive a 70% KANSAS STATE TAX CREDIT, lowering state tax liability 70 cents on the dollar and receiving additional deductions on their federal tax return.

Individuals, corporations, pass-through entities, banks and insurance companies are eligible. Donations can include cash, stocks, IRA distributions, life insurance, bonds, propoerty, and other investments.

The Catholic Education Foundation provides children in need with scholarships to attend designated Catholic schools in the

Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.

ANAHI attended Bishop Ward High School on a CEF scholarship, graduating in May and enrolling in Johnson County Community College. She plans to transfer to Kansas State University to study architecural engineering. “I’ll be the first in my family to go to college,” she said. “It really means a lot because I will set a good example for my sister.”

With the help of a CEF scholarship, JAVIER graduated from high school and now attends Midland University in Nebraska, where he is studying nursing and playing soccer. He plans to be the first in his family to receive a college degree. “My mom is very excited for me to go to col-lege,” he said. “She doesn’t want me to leave, but she knows I’m ready.”

AILED attended high school on a CEF scholarship and is now a student at Kansas City Kansas Community College. She is the first in her family to go to college, and plans to transfer to the University of Kansas to study nursing. “I want to thank the people who sponsored my CEF scholarship,” Ailed said. “I appreciate everything they’ve done for me.”
