The medium sized, one or two-boom Boomer M-series drill rigs from Atlas Copco have been favourite workhorses for many years in underground mining and tunnelling. Now they have become more useful and efficient than ever.

During a major upgrade, the Boomer M-series rigs have been reloaded with a range of enhancements that make them stronger, cleaner, safer and easier to operate.

Johan Jonsson, Product Manager, explains: The use of contractors in the mining industry is becom-ing increasingly common and these companies have told us they need extreme-ly robust drill rigs for drill-ing in tougher environ-ments, and preferably rigs that can be used for more than one application. In response, we have further developed the new Boom-er M-series. These rigs are now much stronger and more powerful and can be used for face drilling as

well as rock bolting.Jonsson points out that

the rigs have been re-loaded with a range of de-sign improvements. These include stronger booms, a new filtration system, increased safety features and Atlas Copcos award winning rig control system. In field trials in Australia these enhancements have returned top ratings for productivity, longer service intervals and lower operat-ing costs.

The new, stronger BUT 36S booms provide steadi-er articulation and faster, more accurate positioning. They also incorporate sev-eral new design features that help to extend the service intervals. The new filtration system keeps lu-brication air and hydraulic oil free from water and fine particles. This improves

the quality of the air and the oil, which, in turn, pro-longs the life of the hydrau-lic components and the rock drills.

These rigs also offer increased safety for the operator. For example, the BUT 36S booms Safe Bolting configuration makes it possible to swing the feed all the way back to the cabin so that the operator can load it with bolts while standing on platforms on either side of the rig. This eliminates the need to work in front of the machine under un-supported roofs, substan-tially reducing the risk of injury from rockfall. For added safety, the spacious and comfortable cabin is now ROPS/FOPS certi-fied.

The reloaded M-series rigs are equipped with COP 1838HD+ rock drills and come with a robust hydraulic control system or, as an option, with the award-winning, new gen-eration Atlas Copco Rig Control System, RCS 5. b

The Government of Al-berta is responding to the priorities of Albertans with 20 immediate actions that will help protect the prov-inces water resources.

The Water Conversation Action Plan outlines 20 short-term actions and five long-term actions that will further safeguard drinking water supplies, improve how we manage lakes and enhance groundwater pro-tection during oil and gas development.

The Action Plan, along with Our Water, Our Future: A Conversation with Alber-tans, Summary of Discus-sions and Albertas Water Research and Innovation Strategy 2014: A Renewal reflect feedback from Alber-tans during the Water Con-versation engagement initia-tive held in 2013.

Albertans want to en-sure that water quality and quantities remain strong for the future. Alberta has managed its water resourc-es prudently for more than a century and these short-

and long-term actions will help ensure that we will continue to effectively manage our water to bene-fit all Albertans, said Kyle Fawcett, Minister of Envi-ronment and Sustainable Resource Development.Highlights include:Enhancing lake health

    governance systems to clarify roles and respon-sibilities;

    Implementing science-based standards for baseline water well test-ing near hydraulic frac-turing operations;

    Working with munici-palities to improve the sustainability of munici-pal water systems;

Laying the groundwork on new frameworks to reduce water use by oil sands producers and better manage tailings ponds; and,

Establishing protected water through govern-ment-led initiatives and university-led research.Water is Albertas most

    critical resource. The re-

newed Water Research and Innovation Strategy will build on our position as a leader in the field of water research and support Al-bertas longstanding com-mitment to environmental protection and sustainable growth, said Don Scott, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education.

The management of Albertas water resources is an increasingly complex challenge with many diverse issues to be addressed. We commend the Government of Albertas strategic lead-ership in the development of this Action Plan, and we look forward to working col-laboratively with our part-ners and key stakeholders to support these initiatives, said David Trew, Executive Director, North Saskatch-ewan Watershed Alliance.

More than 1,000 people attended over 30 Water Conversation community meetings. Separate meet-ings were held with First Nations and Mtis in rec-ognition of their special re-lationship with water and land. In addition, about 760 people completed wa-ter conversation surveys and 353 submissions were received by email, Twitter, blog and letter. b

Dyno Nobel, a global leader in commercial explosives, along with Sandvik Construction, a business area within the Sandvik Group provid-ing solutions for virtu-ally any construction in-dustry application, once again teamed up to put on the 9th annual Quarry Academy in San Antonio, Texas. Demand for the academy surpassed any previous year with class-es filling up in just a few weeks of registration. Those who were able to attend experienced an-other highly successful educational seminar.

Over 125 people par-ticipated in workshops to learn the latest develop-ments in quarrying, safe-ty, lean processes and total value in cost reduc-tion and economic sus-tainability. This three-day event took place over November 1820 and included a tour of the CEMEX Balcones Quarry, the biggest quar-

ry in the US (according to USGS data). The tour included a visit to the water treatment plant, an electronic initiation system demonstration, a production blast, seismic and post blast overview and ended with a field survey control including instruments, tools and methods.

The workshops were conducted by experts in the industry from both Dyno Nobel and Sandvik Construction. They cov-ered: Lean Processes Drilling Blasting Fines and Boulder Man-

agement Load and Haul Fleet Management Crushing and Screening The Quarrying Process Quarry Management Unit Operation Efficien-

    cyThe ultimate goal of

Quarry Academy is to establish the production of aggregates in an ef-

ficient mannerprovid-ing the highest level of productivity at the low-est levels of overall op-erational costs.

Aside from the work-shops and quarry tour, the academy also in-cluded expert speaker Corrie Pitzer. Corrie is a specialist in behavior-al safety and strategic safety management. His presentation on From Deep Lead to Deep Safewhere few have gone before touched on the importance of safety in the work en-vironment and how to make safety personal.

As in previous years, this years Quarry Acad-emy was extremely successful, providing critical information on processes within the quarry and how they link in order to achieve overall operational im-provement. Next year Dyno Nobel and Sand-vik Construction will be celebrating 10 years at the Quarry Academy: Improving processes. Instilling expertise. Join them November 1719, 2015. As announced ear-lier, AB Volvo signed an agreement in January 2013 with the Chinese automotive manufac-turer, Dongfeng Motor Group Company Limited (DFG), to acquire 45% of a subsidiary of DFG, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles Co., Ltd (DFCV). DFCV includes most of Dongfengs operations in heavy-duty and me-dium-duty commercial vehicles. To implement the transaction, a num-ber of conditions had to be fulfilled, including approval from the Chi-nese competition author-ity and other relevant authorities. All approv-als have been received. This transaction will sig-nificantly strengthen the Volvo Groups position in medium-duty trucks while the Group will be-come one of the worlds largest manufacturers of both medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks.

    This strategic alli-

ance is a real milestone and entails a fundamen-tal change in the Volvo Groups opportunities in the Chinese truck market, which is the largest in the world, says Volvos Pres-ident and CEO, Olof Pers-son. At the same time, it will provide us with the opportunity to become in-volved in growing DFCVs international business in a manner that will benefit us and our Chinese part-ner.

In 2013, DFCVs pro-forma sales amounted to RMB 35 billion (SEK 37 billion) and the pro-forma operating income to RMB 950 million (SEK 1 bil-lion). The total Chinese market for heavy-duty trucks amounted to about 774,000 vehicles in 2013, while the corresponding figure for the medium-duty truck market was 286,000 vehicles. DFCV had a leading position in both the heavy-duty and medium-duty segments, with sales of 120,600

heavy-duty trucks and 51,000 medium-duty trucks, corresponding to market shares of 15.6 and 17.8%, respectively.

During the first three quarters of 2014, DFCVs sales amounted to RMB 26 billion (SEK 28 billion) and the operating profit to RMB 1.1 billion (SEK 1.2 billion). During the same period, DFCV sold 85,000 heavy-duty and 31,000 medium-duty trucks. On September 30, 2014, DFCV had a net financial asset of RMB 3 billion (SEK 3.6 billion). (2014 un-audited)

AB Volvos ownership in DFCV is expected to be recognized as an associ-ated company and will be consolidated as of Janu-ary 2015 according to the equity method and report-ed in the trucks segment. The payment of the pur-chase consideration will impact the Groups cash flow and net financial debt in the first quarter of 2015 by approximately SEK 7 billion. However, as the purchase consid-eration has been hedged, the net amount paid for the ownership in DFCV is approximately SEK 5.6 billion. b

and diesel engines provide operators with greater per-formance up to 40 mph with a dealer-installed kit.

The 3400 and 3400XL gas units provide easier start-up and responsive ac-celeration with an electron-ic fuel injection system, which adjusts to tempera-ture and altitude changes. The 3400 and 3400XL die-sel units have automatic glow plugs that adjust to colder starting conditions.

Acceleration is not a problem with these vehi-cles, as they can gain speed smoothly and quickly. An ergonomic lever allows 3400 and 3400XL utility vehicle operators to shift between high, low, neutral and park positions. The four-wheel drive system al-lows operators to shift on-

the-fly to adjust to chang-ing ground conditions.

For machine protection, both models have a full skid plate, a constant ve-locity shield and an option-al brush guard to protect the undercarriage, engine, transmission and radiator when traveling over rough terrain, logs, rocks and oth-er debris.Improved suspension

New Bobcat 3400 and 3400XL utility vehicles provide both an adjust-able independent front dual A-arm suspension and an adjustable rear de Dion multi-link suspension system. The new suspen-sion system provides the operator and passengers with a more comfortable ride, tighter turning radius, increased payload capacity

and more stability when towing. Each utility vehicle wheel moves independent-ly, keeping all wheels in contact with the ground, for maximum traction.Enhanced style and design

Bobcat Company spent considerable time design-ing the new 3400 and 3400XL models to help minimize installation time to add options and acces-sories to the utility vehi-cles. Bobcat enhanced the models to include modern interior and exterior styl-ing. For example, the util-ity vehicles frame has flat-sealing surfaces to ensure a good seal keeping dirt and water out of the cab to improve opera-tor comfort and for uptime protection.

Front and rear windows, a roof, and canvas or hard-sided doors available on 3400 models can be easily added and removed, as needed to both models. Once 3400 owners get the

hinges installed, the doors simply lift on and off. Own-ers can convert the utility vehicles from an open to an enclosed modular cab in a few minutes.

The 3400 and 3400XL utility vehicles have a rugged cargo box with 1,250-pound payload ca-pacity and a longer cargo box 7 inches longer than previous models making it one of the largest cargo boxes in the industry. In-creased payload capacity allows operators to haul more and, in turn, maxi-mize their time while on a jobsite, farm, acreage or grounds maintenance proj-ect.

A durable easy-to-clean composite cargo box fea-tures a single-latch mecha-nism, an integrated fasten-ing system and tie-downs to secure cargo. A standard manual or optional hydrau-lic dump lever is available to easily empty materials from the vehicles cargo box. A higher towing ca-

pacity also allows the ve-hicle and operator to effi-ciently move materials on a trailer and in the cargo box.Comfortable ride

Although hauling ma-terials and transporting passengers are often the 3400 and 3400XLs primary function, making sure the operator and passengers are comfortable is another key factor when deciding what machine to purchase. With the 3400 and 3400XL, comfort is easy to come by with standard power steering and tilt steering, and ample legroom and foot space. New 3400 util-ity vehicles come with a standard three-passenger bench seat with three-point seatbelts for all passengers. The 3400XL utility vehicle has two bench seats that can accommodate up to six passengers. The 3400 and 3400XL models feature large openings for getting in and out of the vehicle, an optional dealer-installed

new 3400 and 3400XL al-low for easier and more efficient shutdown pro-tection, keeping the en-gine cool in the hottest of days on the jobsite. To help minimize downtime, liquid-cooled engines pro-tect critical engine com-partments from overheat-ing, which also results in more performance and power from the machine, because components are kept cooler at higher rpm.Options and accessories

When it comes to snow and ice removal, the 3400 and 3400XL models have an optional snow blade that connects to the ma-chines with a winch kit. For ground maintenance pro-fessionals, landscapers and homeowners with acreage, a 60-gallon sprayer can be

mounted in the machines cargo box. The sprayer is ideal for spot weed control and broadcast spraying of liquid fertilizers and chemi-cals.

General purpose tires come standard on the 3400 and 3400XL utility vehicles. ATV/mud, turf and hard surface tires are available through the parts depart-ments at local Bobcat deal-erships, allowing for ease of use on many terrain types. Additional accessories include a 2-inch front re-ceiver, front and rear work lights, radio and speakers, strobe light, backup alarm, a 4,500-pound winch and turn signals.

Cargo box accessories include a divider/extender to separate, protect and transport cargo, or extend

the length of box by length of the tailgate; rear window guard to secure cargo that extends above the top of the cargo box; tool holder

mount; weather resistant tool box, and chain saw mount to transport a chain saw on the side of the car-go box. b

Eagle Plains Resourc-es Ltd. (TSX-V:EPL) an-nounced that option part-ner Santa Fe Metals Corp. (TSX-V:SFM) has complet-ed a 2014 exploration activ-ity on EPLs 100% owned Iron Range project, located near Creston in south-east-ern British Columbia. SFM holds the exclusive right to earn a 60% interest in the 69,000 ha property. The Iron Range project is con-sidered by Santa Fe and Ea-gle Plains management to hold considerable potential for world-class Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) and

Sullivan Style sedimen-tary exhalative (SEDEX) base- and precious-metal mineralization.

    2014 Program High-lightsCompiled 117 years

of exploration data in a single GIS database (containing: 20,202 soil samples, 585 rock sam-ples, 4,336 line-km of geophysical data from 7 individual surveys and 80 drill holes totalling of 20,300-m)

Identified three distinct high-priority target areas (Car, Canyon/Talon and

    Golden Cap)Completed 3-D model-

ling for Talon ZoneConducted Heavy min-

eral concentrate (HMC) sampling over specific target areas

    Acquired additional ten-uresA well-developed trans-

portation and power corri-dor transects the southern part of the property, in-cluding a high-pressure gas pipeline and a high-voltage hydro-electric line, both of which follow the CPR mainline and Highway 3. The rail line provides ef-

ficient access to the Teck smelter in Trail, B.C., lo-cated 80km to the west.

The Iron Range prop-erty has a storied past with exploration dating back to 1897 when Cominco and the Canadian Pacif-ic Railway acquired the first crown grants on Iron Mountain to evaluate the potential for an iron ore deposit. Advances in geo-logical modelling have re-vealed that portions of the Iron Range property also have excellent potential to host SEDEXtype deposits and exhibit many geologi-cal similarities to the Sulli-van deposit, located 90 km to the north. The Sullivan Mine was discovered in 1892 and is one of the larg-est SEDEX deposits in the world. Over its 100+ year lifetime, Sullivan produced almost 300 million ounces of silver, 36 billion pounds of lead, zinc and other as-sociated metals, collec-tively worth over $40B at current metal prices. Man-agement cautions that past results or discoveries on proximate land are not nec-essarily indicative of the re-sults that may be achieved on the Iron Range property.

Drilling at Iron Range in 2010 resulted in the dis-

    covery of the Talon Zone, where drill-hole IR10-010 intersected 2 intervals of strong and continuous min-eralization including 14.0m grading 5.1 g/t gold, 1.86% lead, 2.1% zinc, 75.3 g/t silver and 7.1m grading 8.13 g/t gold, 2.84% lead, 3.07% zinc, 86.6 g/t silver (EPL news release Decem-ber 21st, 2010). Previous drilling 10km north of the Talon Zone in 2008 by EPL intersected gold min-eralization in drill-hole IR08006, which assayed 7.0m grading 51.52 g/t (1.50 oz/ton) gold.2014 Program/Targeting Highlights:

A Ranking Study com-pleted in 2014 was the first comprehensive and project-wide program to compile and assess all past work on the proper-ty. This led to the recent definition of new drill target areas in this pro-lific metal mining region. Three areas have been delineated as high-priori-ty exploration targets for both SEDEX base and pre-cious metal mineraliza-tion and IOCG style min-eralization. In addition, one of the three targets is being evaluated for Coeur dAlene style structurally-

hosted base + precious metal mineralization. In October, 2014, a field pro-gram was conducted on the property which saw the collection of 10 heavy mineral concentrate sam-ples (HMC) over a num-ber of the target areas. All samples were shipped to Overburden Drilling Man-agement (ODM) for pro-cessing. Results from this work are expected to help focus future exploration drilling activity.

A total of 4,900 ha or 49 km2 in additional tenures were also acquired in 2014, bringing the total property size to 69,000 ha or 690 km2, which now covers over 57 km strike length of the prospective Iron Range Fault Zone.

Eagle Plains will be the operator during the term of the Option. When all of the conditions of the definitive agreement have been met and SFM has exercised the Option, a 60/40 joint ven-ture (JV) will be formed to further advance the Proj-ect.Update On Hall Lake Project

Bethpage Capital Corp. (TSX-V:BET) has reached an agreement with Ea-

gle Plains to amend the terms of the property op-tion agreement entered into on Sept. 16, 2011, whereby Bethpage may earn an undivided 60% interest in Eagle Plains 100%-owned Hall Lake property located 30 kilo-metres west of Kimberley, B.C. Under the terms of the original agreement, Bethpage would complete exploration expenditures of $3-million, make cash payments of $600,000 and issue one million common shares to Eagle Plains over a 54-month period. The agreement has been amended to defer cash and share payments due to Eagle Plains in De-cember, 2014, until De-cember, 2015, by issuing 100,000 Bethpage com-mon shares immediately upon regulatory approval and to increase the aggre-gate share issuance owing to Eagle Plains to 1.1 mil-lion common shares.About Eagle Plains Re-sources

In November 2014, key personnel from a diverse mix of equipment dealer-ships convened in Denver for Charter Softwares an-nual ASPEN User Confer-ence. More than 30 equip-ment dealerships from agricultural, construction/industrial, outdoor power, powersports, and golf car sectors attended the con-ference. The conference is an opportunity for dealers using the ASPEN dealer-ship management system to exchange best practices, learn new skills, and make their industrys business

    needs known to ASPENs developers.

The ASPEN system, ini-tially built based on feed-back provided by Charter Software customers, is con-tinually updated with new features to accommodate technology advancements, changes in suppliers re-quirements, and other industry trends. As the conference was scheduled around the latest ASPEN release, users were able to see and learn the latest functionality in the soft-ware prior to implement-ing it at their business.

Continuing education is essential to maximizing our users investment in ASPEN, said Charter Soft-wares President Anne Sa-lemo. When a new release comes out, it is important for our users to learn how to use the new features, and its also mutually re-warding to see how weve listened to their needs and that the things that theyve asked for have been im-plemented, said Salemo. While Charter does provide free webinar trainings to review the latest features and updates in each soft-

ware release, many users find the in-person training experience offered at the conference to be a valuable supplement to their overall use of the software.

In addition to learning about new software fea-tures, the conference so-lidifies proper use of the system by exposing its us-ers to beneficial ways to use the software that they either may not be aware of, or are not currently us-ing. No matter how well we feel that we are using the software, at the confer-ence, you always find out what you might be able to improve or do differently, said Marty Buck, CFO, Kern Machinery.

While the user sessions are the primary focus of the conference, attendees agree hands-down that the ability to network with other deal-ers is a unique opportunity

that keeps them coming back year after year. Many of the attendees maintain contact with one another throughout the year to stay apprised of each others business practices and use of the software. Hearing how all the other users use ASPEN and the ways that they approach things has helped us to realize what we need to change and im-prove, said Deanna Roos, a financial administrator at Polar Tech Recreation.

Networking with other dealers, and being able to talk and work face-t0-face with Charter staff are two of the biggest reasons we believe it is important to hold the conference in-person, said Stephen Gra-ham, manager of Charters Customer Support depart-ment. Our conference at-tendees were excited to get an in-person first look at some of the latest enhance-ments to the software, like our re-vamped point of sale screens, mobile applica-tions, and customer portal, and then be able to practice with them hands-on with our trainers and support staff in the ASPEN Lab, said Graham.

The conference is also a unique opportunity for customers to meet and talk with Charter Software President Anne Salemo, who, in addition to teach-ing several classes, is ac-cessible throughout the entire conference. Salemo also facilitates most of the interactive dealer forums and roundtable sessions where Charter develop-ment staff are on hand to answer dealers questions and listen to them voice their needs.

Salemo says that while the conference is a break-even endeavour for the company financially, the company is rewarded in-tangibly. The User Confer-

ence is the ideal place for us to get feedback from our customers regarding what they need from us, said Salemo. We are always eager to hear what func-tionality they need to stay competitive, she says. In this years expanded roundtable sessions, us-ers from each dealership enthusiastically took part in discussions to address their specific departments needs from the ASPEN sys-tem, saying that it made them feel empowered. Its really phenomenal to have an impact on affecting the whole product, said Roos of Polar Tech. I feel like working with Charter is more like having a support system than working with a vendor, added another first-time conference at-tendee.

Additionally, due to the softwares growing popu-larity in the golf car sector, a golf-car dealership round-table was added this year to bring to light how the software can assist these dealers with the nuances particular to this industry.

The conference will continue to grow each year as new users attend and seasoned users continue to return to learn more and network with the other us-ers. b

Terex Washing Sytems hosted their second open day in the medieval region of Chambellay, France. The Open Day was organized and hosted in conjunction with one of TWSs French distributors, Catecom and their customer, Santrac. Santrac were celebrating 40 years in business, which provided the perfect op-portunity to celebrate the occasion in the form of an Open Day.

The event attracted more than 80 guests in-cluding TWS dealers, their customers and San-tracs customers, who had the opportunity to see the Terex Aggwash 60-1 wash plant operat-ing at first hand. The plant was installed on the Santrac site early in 2014 and is processing natural sand and gravel.

Santrac required a solu-tion to process natural sand and gravel that was particularly clay bound, with a high level of silt. The Terex Ag-gwash wash plant was selected for this appli-cation based on the at-tributes of the plant and its ability to process this type of application. The plant offers fast instal-lation, with a pre-wired and pre-plumbed design. The logwasher compo-nent of the plant breaks up the clay bound mate-rial, liberating the clay and sand from the stone producing 3 aggregates, 4-8mm, 8-20mm and 20-40mm, one oversize, 40mm+ and one con-crete sand. The Aggwash wash plant also has the ability to remove the organics from the feed

material and any float-ing material that comes from the rear of the trash screen washer and is de-watered on the logwash-er. All water used in the process is collected in a centrally located slurry collection tank which is then in turn pumped to the hydrocyclone where the sand is captured and not allowing any loss. Santrac is recycling the water via a standard tailing pond system; set-tling silts out and pump-ing clarified water back through the plant again, making the process very efficient.

Fergal McPhillips, TWS Sales Manager, comment-ed, We were delighted to welcome so many cus-tomers and dealers to the recent Open Day, which proved to be a great suc-cess with sales following after the event. Catecom has grown over the last two years, clearly demon-strating an acute under-

standing of the washing demands in France. They have greatly increased market share and have ex-panded their business line for greater future growth within all washing seg-ments such as concrete and building sands and in wash recycling. TWS were delighted to be in the position to showcase the Aggwash wash plant in France, which is cur-rently operating effec-tively for many customers around the globe. Patrick Palais, Santrac quarry

owner commented The Aggwash wash plant has been operating very ef-fectively for us since the installation earlier this year. We are much bet-ter placed to serve our customers needs, provid-ing three aggregates, one oversize and one sand. Santrac were delighted to host the recent open day event in conjunction with Catecom and TWS, as we also celebrated 40 years in business, making it a special occasion for all. It is an award winning solu-tion and is certainly win-

ning business for us.The Terex Aggwash

is a mobile washplant that brings together rins-ing, screening, scrubbing and sand washing capa-bilities on a transportable single chassis. Primarily designed for the process-ing of construction and demolition waste but equally suited to virgin material applications. The Aggwash is capable of producing 4 grades of aggregate and one or two grades of sand with a capacity in excess of 70 tonnes per hour. b

CSA Group, a leading standards development organization and a global provider of testing and cer-tification services, officially announced the availability of the 2015 Canadian Elec-trical Code (CE Code), Part 1. The 2015CE Code is the 23rd edition of Canadas primary standard for elec-trical installations, includes more than 200 updates and revisions, and is offered in a new interactive ver-sion that provides users enhanced ability to locate, interpret and calculate re-quirements of the code on a tablet or phone.

New and extensively updated sections focus on renewable energy, electric heating and hazardous lo-cations classifications. A separate document entitled Top 16 CE Code Changes provides an overview of the changes and how they impact various stakehold-ers.

CSA Group is looking to modernize the way we develop and offer stan-

dards. Our new interactive version of the CE Code al-lows people to reference the document from their phone or tablet, said Gianluca Arcari, Execu-tive Director, Standards and Vice President, CSA Group. Users can now easily access and find the relevant sections on a por-table device, while they are on the job. This is just one of ways we are chang-ing to meet the needs of our clients. Most impor-tantly, these changes will help workers to easily ac-cess information that helps make everyone safer.

In the 2015 CE Code, renewable energy systems are now covered in one section. Requirements for photovoltaic systems have been merged with requirements for renew-able energy systems, such as wind and hydrokinetic, and there are significant updates reflecting the lat-est technologies and safety features for occupants and first responders.

The updated Code now changes Section 18, haz-ardous locations, to focus exclusively on the Zone system of classification. The section has been re-vised to introduce the IEC classification for locations containing explosive dust atmospheres, such as grain elevators and flour mills.

Another important change is to the section on electric heating. Instal-lation requirements for electric heating equipment have been rationalized and grouped into general rules, where appropriate. New requirements have

been added for skin-effect trace heating systems and heating systems by Class 1 extra-low voltage power circuits.

The Canadian Electrical Code, Part I is an integral part of the Canadian Elec-trical Safety System that helps keep Canadians safe from harm. The CE Code, Part I covers the installa-tion and maintenance of electrical equipment for operation at all voltages in buildings, structures, and premises (including factory-built relocatable and non-relocatable struc-tures).

The 2015 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, in-cludes numerous updates: Arc fault circuit inter-

rupters: New require-ments expand the use of arc fault circuit interrup-tion (AFCI) technology to include most rooms within dwelling units.

High voltage cable am-pacities: Ampacity tables have been added for conductors rated 5kV to 46kV.

Receptacles for residen-tial dining areas: Modern homes tend to have open concept kitchen and dining areas and can in-clude entertainment ar-eas and workspaces. The code has been revised to reflect the same require-ments for great rooms as for living rooms and bed-rooms.

Reduction of shock drowning in marinas: To increase safety, the requirements for ground fault circuit interrupter protection of class A type receptacles has been extended to all 125V, 15A and 20A recep-tacles installed on fixed or floating piers, docks or wharves in fishing harbours or on marine structures. b
