Supervision of Works

Minor Works Contract & Tendered Contract

In Civil Works Contract, managed by P&D Section, the CWA is represented as

follows

echnical 'fficers and Assistant Inspectors work in close collaboration with the!! and are involved on a f%ll time basis on s%pervision works#

S%pervision for pipelaying works starts at the time the contractor mobili(es onsite#

he following stages are involved in pipelaying works

Setting o%t

)ormation level

*edding

Pipelaying

*ackfilling

+ydrostatic test

Connection works

++ Connections "einstatement works

Prior approval for each stage of works sho%ld be obtained by the Contractorbefore he can proceed to the ne$t stages#

Works are approved by !!, ' and AI depending on the nat%re of the works,the site conditions etc, b%t it sho%ld be noted that no site is left %nattendedand all approval of works at the different phases as o%tlined above arerecorded# In case the Contractor does not comply with drawings andspecifications, written instr%ctions are iss%ed to the Contractor#

As a general g%ideline, an !! is entr%sted to or - minor works or with ./minor works and one tendered contract at a time depending on the availabilityof '0s and AI0s, with each contract comprising of an average of 1 to 2 sites#

he overall management of these contracts is administered by !$ec%tive!ngineers and Principal !ngineers# he Chief !ngineer follows the progress ofworks and gives advice, recommendations and approval as and when necessary#

echnical officers and !! are involved mainly on technical iss%es on sites#echnical iss%es means whether the contractor is complying with CWAspecifications and/or specifications imposed by other A%thorities s%ch asDistrict Co%ncils, 3%nicipalities and "oad Development A%thority etc# and

whether the proper methodology is being followed by the Contractor#

Prior to +anding 'ver of the work to the 'ps Section, as4made drawings areprepared and a copy of which is handed over to the 'ps Section d%ring +anding'ver e$ercise# It sho%ld be noted that tho%gh the works are handed over tothe 'ps section, any defects arising from poor workmanship are remedied bythe contractor following instr%ctions by the !! d%ring the 3aintenance Period#

As a general r%le, the following may be adopted as a g%ideline for propers%pervision at different levels

5.6 Assistant Inspectors 4 Daily on all sites where there is activity
