DESCRIPTION

You have been selected for SUPERHERO TRAINING!! Please report to the super secret training location with the other trainees. Welcome to the Team Peace superhero-training facility where everyone will become a superhero. You need to use their skill, strength and listening powers to complete all of the superhero challenges to successfully become the new superhero Peacekeepers at St-John Fisher! Once you have completed your training your class will receive a certificate. When the students complete the course, have a prize ready and even a certificate saying that they have successfully completed Superhero training. (see bottom of lesson plan)

Warm-Up Superhero SaysThis warm up activity is very similar to Simon says. The teacher is designated as the superhero, and the students must do whatever the superhero says, as long as the phrase "Superhero says" comes before the command. If the Superhero does not say, "Superhero says" before the command, students are not supposed to follow the command. If a player does follow a command without a "Superhero says," that student is out of the game.

4 Stations1) Set up the 4 stations in the gymnasium. When the students enter they will see equipment all over the gym, remind them before they enter not to touch anything yet.2) Station 1: Rock Climbing Wall. Spider Man and Woman.

3) Station 2: Balance beam. Cat Woman and Batman.

4) Station 3: Relay. Walking Cups and blown up air ball. Wonder Woman, Superman, the Hulk.

5) Station 4: Target practice: Shooting Beams (balls) at the targets on the walls or bean bags into the buckets. Iron Woman and Man. Modifications:

If not all students are succeeding the superhero challenge, have the successful students become superhero sidekicks (like how Robin is to Batman) and help out the superheros that are struggling with the superhero training. Provide more or less additional equipment to accommodate all students (trampoline, noodle, ball, tires, etc.) by simplifying or bringing more challenge to the superhero training facility.

Warm DownAsk questions to assess/focus learning (cognitive objective): Did you enjoy being a superhero today?

What kind of super powers (i.e. movements/skills) did we work on today? Do you think you made a great superhero & superhero sidekick?

1) To end the class with a warm down activity, tell students that they are captain slow and must walk around as slowly as they can without touching anything. (Let it go? Frozen theme?)2) After playing captain slow for a couple of minutes, call in students to the center circle to recap the focus of todays class. Captain Slow
