Welcoming Guests! It has been great seeing first-time guests join us

for worship. Thank you to those who make a spe-

cial effort to greet guests each Sunday morning

(you know who you are!). We all remember how

awkward and uncomfortable it is to try a new

church, and it takes an intentional commitment to

extend a warm welcome to people who are new. Here are three tips for

EVERYONE to consider each Sunday morning:

1. If you see someone you don’t know, PLEASE be bold and warmly

welcome them and introduce yourself. You may not know if they are

a first-time guest, or been attending for years….that’s okay….if you

don’t know someone, then introduce yourself and welcome them! If

they have been attending longer than you…..then shame on them

for not welcoming you first!

2. If you see a young family with children, please ask if they would like

to know where the nursery services are, and then explain that chil-

dren’s church is available mid-way through the service. Offer to help

get their kids to children’s church.

3. Offer to help find them a seat, or better yet, to sit with you!

Nathan’s Notes

The Purpose Of Music In Church

Music has been an integral part of the worship of God since “the morning stars sang together” at the creation (Job 38:7). David es-tablished entire villages of musicians set apart for temple worship (I Chronicles 25:6-8). Paul tells believers they are to “sing and make melody in their hearts to the Lord” (Eph. 5:19, Col. 3:16). In the book of Revelation, the apostle John tells us that music will surround the throne of God when we worship Him in heaven (Rev. 5:13). Music gives wings to praise. It gives expression to our human emotions as we worship the Creator. In the context of a worship service, music is the wheels of the gospel in motion. Music is what helps the Word of God travel through a worship service.

Martin Luther said, “next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. It controls our thoughts, minds, hearts, and spirits.” Music in the church should have the glory of God as its objective. It is never “music for music’s sake” in the church. At the bottom of each of his musical compositions, the 18th century composer J.S. Bach wrote: “SDG” (Soli Deo Gloria). This is Latin for “glory to God alone.”

Music is a wonderful vehicle for the teaching of theology, as in time-less hymns such as “Holy, Holy, Holy.” It also enables our praise, as in new songs such as “The Lion and the Lamb.” Scripture com-mands us to “sing a new song unto the Lord,” and commands musi-cians to perform skillfully with voices and instruments (Ps. 33:3). All music is to be offered to God with excellence, yet an excellent per-formance is never the objective of church music. The glory of God is the only biblical objective.

“Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (I Cor. 10:31).

In His Grip,

Nathan

Team Meetings Schedule Change

At our February team meeting the decision was made to end our First

Wednesday of each month team meetings and meals. Each team is en-

couraged to meet on their own as needed. Also, please remember to re-

port to the office staff anything you need to share with our church family.

New Pew Bibles

Praise the Lord, we now have NEW pew bibles (NIV). During the sermon, Doug will refer to page numbers from these bibles, plus the page number will be on the screen. If you do not own a Bible, we would like you to take one of these home as a gift from us.

Congratulations to Mike Prather who was presented and affirmed as

an elder. Please pray for Mike and his family as he helps lead and

shepherd our congregation!

.Community Good Friday Service

You are invited to join the community of believers in Atlanta as we come together to worship and observe Good Friday on March 30 at 7 p.m. at the Atlanta United Methodist Church (200 SW 2nd St, corner of Race & 2nd Sts.). Nathan Soice and the worship team from ACC will be leading the worship and Deepak Holkar, interim pastor at the Methodist Church, will bring the message. This event is sponsored by churches in the At-lanta Ministerial Alliance (Atlanta Christian Church, Eminence Christian Church, Atlanta Assembly of God, and the Atlanta United Methodist Church).

30 Pieces of Silver Offering

Due to the elders’ desire to be sensitive to our guests and keep the ser-vice outreach-focused, we will NOT be collecting a “30 pieces of silver offering” on Easter Sunday. Should you desire to give toward a special offering, we would encourage you to hold onto your gift until later this spring when we begin to collect funds to finish up “The Gate” pro-ject. Thank you!

Thank you to everyone, who contributed money, goodies, and time in

preparing and mailing our 23 college, 18 stateside military and 5 over-

seas military Valentine Care Packages. The packages were overflow-

ing with homemade snacks, cookies & treats. A special thanks to

Gresham-Crutchley American Legion Post 341 for paying the postage

for the overseas military boxes and to Shelly Brooks’ & Liz Foster’s

Sunday School class for the “sweet Valentine mobiles.” Your gener-

osity made these 46 packages possible, providing love-filled blessings

to the recipients. Your outreach touched many lives this week in Du-

bai, Germany, Japan, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indi-

ana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, Texas,

and Washington. Susan M. Swearingen

A standing ovation for Shelly Brooks, Carol Estes, Julie Frantz, Leigh

Ann Gwin, Alice Robison, and Dr. Val N. Tine for hosting the February

Birthday Party for Residents of Lincoln Christian Nursing Home. The

residents enjoyed cake & punch, played Bingo, complete with prizes,

and gifts were presented to the 11 residents celebrating birthdays.

Thank you to Shelly Brooks’ and Liz Foster’s Sunday School class for

the “sweet Valentine mobiles” given to residents. Susan M.

Swearingen

Thank you to all who provided food and helped with the Walters funeral

dinner. The family was very appreciative.

To the Atlanta Christian Church family,

I would like to thank all of you who kept me in your thoughts and pray-ers. If you sent a card, said a prayer, or brought food, everything was appreciated during my recovery from my surgeries. Thanks again. Grace Wibben.

Becoming A Christian Course Offered In March

We will be offering our “Becoming a Christian Course” on the four Sundays in March, at 9 am. This four week course focuses on a biblical overview of becoming a Christian. This is a non-threatening, safe at-mosphere open to anyone with questions about making a decision for Christ. The course is geared primarily for people who have yet to make a decision, or are unsure if they have made a decision, for Christ. How-ever, it is also appropriate for believers who would like an overview to better prepare themselves to present the plan of salvation to a family or friend. We will be spending a lot of time looking at the scriptural pas-sages regarding the process of becoming a Christian. There are NO DUMB QUESTIONS! Please text Doug if you would like to attend: 217-737-3731

This postcard (front and back) will be mailed out to 1000 households in the Atlanta, IL area between March 19 and 23. Please take some time to pray for the families that God leads to ACC on Easter Sunday!
