    CHRISTIAN TEACHERS

    Biblical description of Christian teachers

Christian teachers were an important part of

development in the early church. Many

references in the New Testament were toindividuals who were serving in an official

position as a teacher, often as a pastor-

teacher. Much of what the New Testamentsays about teachers applies to individuals who

serve as Sunday School teachers today.

    CHRISTIAN TEACHERS

Value of Teachers to the Church

Teachers were viewed as a gift to churches.

Paul wrote that God gave to churches, among

other workers, "pastors andteachers; so thatthe body of Christ may be built up" Ephesians

    4:11, 12).

Paul was bringing forth the idea that, throughthe work of teaching, saints would be brought to

    maturity.

    CHRISTIAN TEACHERS

Value of Teachers to the Church

As believers are brought to maturity, they are

able to carry out Kingdom work.

Teachers, you are a gift from God to our

    church!

    CHRISTIAN TEACHERS

People responsible for the teaching ministry

Teachers are commanded to do their teaching

    faithfully.

While teachers are blessings to the church,

teachers who do not continue growing in

    Christ became problems.

People who are teachers need to give the

teaching ministry the best they have to offer.

    CHRISTIAN TEACHERS

People responsible for the teaching ministry

For these reasons Paul wrote that those who

are involved in teaching should use their God

given grace in teaching (Romans 12:7).

If Paul were writing to our church today, he

certainly would urge all Sunday School / OT

teachers to be faithful in their teaching.

    CHRISTIAN TEACHERS

The Heart of the Great Commission

Jesus made the ministry of teaching the heart

of the Great Commission. We are to make

disciples of all nations this is the commandwhich is to be carried out through teaching

them to obey everything Christ has

    commanded us (Matthew 28:19-20)

    CHRISTIAN TEACHERS

The Heart of the Great Commission

Jesus' commission to His church has not

expired. Therefore, teaching the things of

Christ must remain a top priority in ourlessons.

    The Awesome Responsibility of Teaching

James wrote, Not many of you should

presume to be teachers, my brothers, because

you know that we who teach will be judgedmore strictly" (James 3:1).

James recognized the necessity of teaching,

but he wanted all teachers to understand theweight of the responsibility of their calling.

    RESPONSIBILITY OF TEACHING

    The Awesome Responsibility of Teaching

Those who teach are subject to a more strict

judgment than others. They have professed

clear knowledge of duty; they are all the morebound to live consistently what they teach.

To fail is to create a stumbling block for others.

    RESPONSIBILITY OF TEACHING

    Responsibility for the tongue

Being a teacher requires expressing views on

varied matters. Multiplied talk certainly will

result in multiplied offenses with the tongueand, consequently, greater condemnation or

judgment. James wrote, "In many things we

offend all. If any man offend not in word, thesame is a perfect man, and able also to bridle

    the whole body" (James 3:2).

    RESPONSIBILITY OF TEACHING

    Responsibility for the tongue

Before launching into a Christian teaching

assignment, a person needs to evaluate

    carefully personal discipline.

Being a Christian teacher requires great

discipline of the tongue in order to avoid

    offences.

    RESPONSIBILITY OF TEACHING

    Responsibility for being dependable

    (read Romans 2:21-24)

This is a severe warning to every person who

teaches to maintain consistency with the life

lived and the words taughtwalk your talk.

Check your motivation: If your motivation to

teach is to receive recognition and acclaim

then you are not sent from God and should

    not be teaching at all!

    QUALITIES OF A CHRISTIAN TEACHER

    We should Aim to be:

Praying Teachers (who pray for their ministry,

the pupils in their care, their ministers and the

    mission of the church)

Scholarly Teachers (you cannot impart what

you do not possess we should all be

    QUALITIES OF A CHRISTIAN TEACHER

    We should Aim to be:

    Motivating Teachers (with encouragement

those we teach will blossom and achieve more

    than they thought they could)

Faithful Teachers (faithful to our classes in

every way - in attendance - in preparation in

role-modelling. Long after the lessons havebeen forgotten, people remember how we

    lived our lives before them).
