Prayer of St. Ephraim
O Lord and Master of my life, do not permit me the
spirit of laziness, despair, lust of power, and idle
talk. But give, rather, the spirit of chastity, humility,
patience and love to Your servant. O Lord and King,
grant me to see my own transgressions and not to
judge my brother, for blessed are You unto ages of
ages. Amen.

Sitting at the Right Hand of Christ
And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came
forward to Jesus, and said to him, “Teacher, we
want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.”
And he said to them, “What do you want me to do
for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit,
one at your right hand and one at your left, in
your glory.” But Jesus said to them, “You do not
know what you are asking. Are you able to drink
the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the
baptism with which I am baptized?” And they said
to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them,
“The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the
baptism with which I am baptized, you will be
baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left
is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it
has been prepared.” (Mark 10:35-40)
“The disciples, not knowing what they asked for,
wanted to be on the right hand and the left hand
of Jesus when he comes in glory. What such a
request actually entails is revealed when we see
Jesus positioned, or rather enthroned, between
two thieves, one on his right hand and the other
on his left, on the Cross. Christ comes into his
glory on the Cross. This demolishes all our
conceptions of what glory is, all our assumptions
about honor and power. Indeed, it turns on its
head our image of who and what God is: God is
not a despot who exercises his power by imposing
his will, who glorifies in the subservience of his
subjects, or who responds to their petty requests.
No, God reveals his power in weakness, his
wisdom in folly, his glory on the Cross, and his
irresistibly will in the love he makes manifest in
this way. … Jesus specifically says: the Son of
man came to serve and give his life as a ransom
for all, and so whoever would be the first must be
the slave of all. (Matthew 20:27-28”)
Reflection on Divine Mercy with Saint Faustina
The Arms of God
When a child is frightened or gets hurt, the natu-ral place of comfort is the arms of a parent. This is the first thing a crying child looks for. So it must be with us. The arms of our Father in Heav-en, and Jesus our Savior, are what we must run to in our need. We should not hesitate to turn to God in all things, especially when tempted to despair, or when we recognize our weakness and sin (See Diary #505).
When burdens weigh you down, or when you get angry or are tempted to despair, where do you turn? Some turn to sinful fleshly comforts, others to harsh words, and others run to God. Run to God in every moment! Ideally, we run to Him when life is good and when we are filled with great joy and consolation. But God also wants us to run to Him, immediately, when life is hard. Make the arms of God the first thing you think about when you find yourself in need.
Lord, I do run to You. I pray that I will daily build a habit of running to You in all things. I pray that I will turn to You with my every need. I cling to You, Divine Lord, and seek to rely upon You always.

Discovering the Unity of Life and Love is a document of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, which in our Family and Life Office podcast will be divided up into “bite sized” chunks, narrated by our own Bishop Bryan and followed up by either some thought provoking discussions or web links to help us
go deeper and explore important questions like “what it means to be human—male and female?”; “the compatibility of faith and science”; “the role of beauty in our faith”; “how do we discover the true mean-ing of love?”; “what is true human freedom?” and many more.
Find the podcast by going to the Eparchy of Saskatoon Family and Life Office website www.skeparchy.org/flo . Or go to www.skeparchy.org and click on the Family and Life Office icon. It Is never too late to join us…. So take some time to go deeper in your faith…its just a few clicks away.
