Under 12 Boys 10:00am
NPL Youth 12:00pm
First Team 2:15pm
From the Managing Director
Welcome Fire and Western Pride players, supporters and families to Stockland Stadium for the third senior round of the 2014 NPL.
Today we will have the pleasure of seeing our youngest team, the Under 12 Boys, take to the Stadium pitch. It is a great opportunity for these young players to experience what it is like to play in front of a crowd and at such an impressive venue. I have no doubt that today will be a highlight for the team and I hope they enjoy the occasion. The Under 12 Boys team have been gelling well as a team and improving with every game. I wish them the best of luck with today’s match against Western Pride.
Our First Team will again face a stern test against often-underrated opponents Western Pride. While our team is still finding its feet, it was disappointing to see our early lead slip in last weekend’s game against our long-term rivals the Brisbane Strikers. The need to capitalise on opportunities and minimise the number of goals conceded is something the team has been working on and will look to rectify in today’s game.
The Youth Men’s will also be looking to secure a victory today after some close but disappointing results against Palm Beach Sharks and Brisbane Strikers. The match-up with Western Pride is sure to be a quality display of football.
Warm regards,
Noel Woodall Managing Director Sunshine Coast FC

From the First Team Coach/ Technical Director of Coaching
Welcome everyone to what promises to be another great day of football.
Today’s opponents , Western Pride, will be a stern test. Coached by Kasey Wehrman, an ex Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets player who had a successful stint in Europe, the team really epitomise his belief in how the game should be played; with spirit, team work and a never say die attitude.
Western Pride has more quality in the first team squad than people give the Club credit for, their evolution has been interesting. You can see a clear shift from just battling to get results to a squad which is aiming to control possession and dictate the play a lot more. With midfielders are accomplished passers and with the quality of Drager, Woodruff and Jordan in and around the final third they will ask questions of us.
Our performance against Brisbane Strikers was very encouraging, for 60 minutes we were extremely comfortable and should have been 2-3 goals ahead before half time. Ryan Delahunty has been causing a number of problems with his speed and direct approach.
The return of Paul Arnison into our midfield today will be a big boost for the players, his guidance and calming influence has a big impact on the squad. Paul has such an influence that he creates an environment where other players play to their potential. His knowledge and experience will be needed today to stop the alarming amount of goals we are conceding. When we concede goals the finger point to the back line and goal keeper however it is a collective problem which stems from a variety of scenarios. This is something we have been working hard to rectify and we will be looking to address in today’s game.
Enjoy the game and thank you for your support.

Fire dominate SEQWPL debut match The Fire Open Women won their debut match in the South East Queensland Women’s Premier League against Taringa Rovers on Sunday, March 9. LEFT: Martha Bensted BELOW: Marcena Hunter BOTTOM: Renee Rudder BELOW LEFT: Samara Christmas
After a strong start, the Fire Open Women’s Team is looking like a force to be reckoned with in the new South East Queensland Women’s Premier League.
With 13 of the team’s 16 players aged 18 or under, the Fire team is one of the youngest in the competition. However Coach Dave Bensted believes that despite their age, the girls have the makings of a formidable team.
“Yes we are a young side, but they are all good players, regardless of their age they are good footballers,” he said.
“In the first game we put in a good performance, the style of play we are focusing on is heavily centred around maintaining possession of the ball. For our first game we were pleased with the progress which had been made in this area and it was good to see so many young player taking responsibility of the ball in key areas.”
The team gains experience with goal keeper and former Easts player Renee Rudder and 27-year-old central defender Marcena Hunter.
“The leadership qualities of Marcena and Renee plays important role in the development of the younger players,” Bensted said.
“Another key player is Kayla Moore; her determination, enthusiasm and appetite to complete in the middle of the park gives the team confidence.”
The SEQWPL competition consists of seven NPL and seven BPL teams and will see the Fire take on established Clubs such as The Gap, Easts and Redlands United.
The Fire’s next match will be against Souths United at 3:15pm on Saturday, March 22 at Wakerly Park.
