The Women of E.L.C.A. hope everyone had a Blessed Christmas and New Year. A special thank you to AnnMarie MacBride for again opening up her beautiful home and hosting our Annual Christmas Party. Great fellowship and food were the order of the night and secret pals were revealed and new ones chosen. Upcoming events for 2016 will be forthcoming. As we take our winter break, no meeting will be held in January. The next regular meeting will be held on Tues-day, February 9th at 12:00 noon. Please bring lunch. Beverage and dessert will be provided. At this meeting, we will be discussing the book “Sensible Shoes: A Story about the Spiritual Journey” by Sharon Garlough Brown. Everyone is invited to join us to discuss this book. We continue to increase our membership and hope that this will continue as we move through the year. There is always room for more!!! Lutheran World Relief/Equal Exchange Coffee Project – orders taken on January 10th! The Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project is a collaboration begun in 1996 between Lutheran World Relief and Equal Ex-change to involve Lutheran congregations and individuals in helping small farmers around the world, particularly in Africa, Central America and Asia. For every pound of fairly traded coffee, tea, chocolate or other food products purchased, Equal Exchange donates 20 cents directly to the Small Farmer’s Fund of Lutheran World Relief. In 2014, that donation amounted to $34,435.40! The Small Farmer’s Fund assists farmers to improve their agricultural procedures and helps them to develop cooperatives within their communities which then sell their products directly to Equal Exchange, thus eliminat-ing the middlemen who pay them minimal price for their products. Since its’ inception in 1996, the products available for sale has increased tremendously. There are whole bean and ground coffees, percolator coffees, single serve cups, organic coffees, decaffeinated coffees and flavored coffees. There are 14 types of black, green or herbal teas. There are 3.5 oz. chocolate bars, mini chocolates, candy bars, chocolate chips and co-coas. There are natural and roasted almonds and cashews, dried fruits (mango, pineapple and raisins) and three types of fruit and nut bars, as well as honey, marmalade, strawberry jam, trail mix, rice cakes and extra virgin olive oil! Stop by the table in the narthex between services on January 10 to check out the catalog and place your order. We do need to order in case lots, but individuals can join together to order a case. The number of items per case is noted in the cata-log. Purchases are typically available on the following Sunday between services. You pay for your purchase upon receipt. In the past year (2015) we (Our Saviour’s) purchased $1,266.73 of merchandise! Can we beat that record in 2016?

COMMUNITY FOOD CUPBOARD COUPONS

Our Saviour has for many years participated in a program to collect coupons for the Community Food Cupboard in downtown Rochester. Jean Schilling coordinated that program for us. Since Jean’s departure from the Roches-ter area, the program has gone by the “wayside”. The Women of the ELCA here at Our Saviour would like to reinstate the program. The Food Cupboard serves a large senior community, as well as emergency needs as they arise. We feel that this program is another way that we at Our Saviour can do God’s work within the community. I will send in coupons collected on a weekly or biweekly schedule. The Food Cupboard uses the coupons to buy the products and then distributes the products to their clients. We need to watch expiration dates carefully, thus the weekly or biweekly mailings. Coupons requested include: canned goods (especially soups, as well as vegetables and fruits); peanut butter (they stressed this product); cereal products and dairy products. A box for the coupons is located on the table in the narthex. I thank you in advance for your support of this project. Sharon Yackel

TWELFTH ANNUAL BRUNCH WITH SANTA

Brunch with Santa was Saturday, December 19 and once again we had a great showing. Children from Sunday School and Preschool enjoyed grilled cheese sandwiches and chips followed by a personal visit with Santa. Many thanks go out to Santa’s elves: Jakob, Kyle and Cassie Wiesmore, Paul Denz, Michelle Coval and Sheila Foltz, Dick Ransom; Janeen Oliver; Linda Loughlin, Chloe and Jill Evans, Jakob and Johannes Witt, and Paul Hamblin who helped with serving and clean-up. SPECIAL THANKS TO SANTA!

We, the members of the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, as baptized followers of Jesus Christ will foster a living, expressive relationship with our Lord and our neighbors.

We will do this in a way that seeks to serve all segments of our congrega-tion and community by:

♦ Providing a welcoming environment for youth and young adults.

♦ Strengthening the family unit.

♦ Involving the elderly and recognizing their special needs.

♦ Making Christ visible through worship.

JANUARY BIBLE STUDY: A MAN NAMED MARTIN: PART 1. In honor the 500 anniversary of the Reforma-tion we will be looking at the life of Martin Luther. “Luther’s life and times are examined through the lens of his-tory, religion, and theology. The details of Luther’s life—his childhood with his parents, his university pursuits, his decision to become a monk, his protestation of Catholic practices, his voluminous and erudite scholastic output, his life in hiding, and his roles as husband and father—are all considered in this study. A Man Named Martin offers a fresh look at the individual who, down through the centuries, has increased in importance and vitality to the Chris-tian church.” This will be a 5 week study on Monday evenings 7:00 PM: January 4, 11, 18, 25, February 1 On Tuesdays at 10:00 AM January 5, 12, 26, February 2, 9.

January Family Event This year Thrivent will not be sponsoring a Rochester Americans Hockey game. This game was always well attended by people from our congregation. In its’ stead, how would you like to attend an RIT Women’s hockey game against Penn State on Saturday, January 16? The game starts at 3:00 p.m. at the Gene Polisseni Center on the RIT campus. Ticket prices are $3. for adults and $2. for children, based on a group of 10 or more. The women’s hockey program, like the men’s, is a Division 1 sport and offers the opportunity to see some excellent hockey. If you are interested, please sign up on the sheet on the Narthex table. We will pre-purchase the tickets and upon distri-

bution, we will provide a map of the RIT campus to assist with parking. The tickets are general admission, but we will

make arrangements for group seating. If you have any questions, please contact Jim and Lori Hahn or Rich and Sharon

Yackel.

With Great Appreciation We would like to thank the entire LCOS family for all the love, prayers and beautiful cards received in memory of Betty Tesch. A special thank you to everyone creating such a beautiful Memorial Service and lunch-eon. Betty loved her church and had years and years of fond memories of Sunday worship and other related activities that created so many close friendships. Her memories will be with us forever. With Much Love, The Tesch Family

We got the Christmas trees out of storage and set them up prior to the decoration session sponsored by Jubilees.

One of our water heaters sprung a leak and was replaced with a new one. Installation by Rick Chapin with help from other Trustees. The one that leaked was 12+ years old and its time

had come.

One of the boilers decided to act up and did not fire reliably; symptoms pointed to a bad igniter assembly and a new one was purchased, again installation by Rick Chapin and

Trustees. Problem fixed.

The Christian Book Club will be meeting January 7, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at church to discuss Sharon Garlough Brown’s second book in the trilogy entitled “Two Steps Forward.” The women from “Sensible Shoes” are taking their next steps in the Spiritual Formation Journey. But each of them is finding roadblocks along the way. Sometimes life feels like two steps for-ward and one step back. You may find your own spiritual journey reflected in the lives of these women. Come and discover the way forward.

The Evangelism Committee would like you to join us for Christian Movie Night beginning Friday, January 29, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. We will be showing movies that will be appropriate for the entire family. There will be popcorn and other refresh-ments. After the movie there will be time for comments and questions if you wish to stay and discuss the movie. The first movie we are going to watch is HEAVEN IS FOR REAL. Based on the #1 New York Times best-selling book of the same name, HEAVEN IS FOR REAL brings to the screen the true story of a small-town father who must find the courage and conviction to share his son's extraordinary, life-changing experience with the world. The film stars Academy Award® nomi-nee and Emmy® award winning actor Greg Kinnear as Todd Burpo and co-stars Kelly Reilly as Sonja Burpo, the real-life couple whose son Colton (newcomer Connor Corum) claims to have visited Heaven during a near death experience. Colton recounts the details of his amazing journey with childlike innocence and speaks matter-of-factly about things that happened before his birth ... things he couldn't possibly know. Todd and his family are then challenged to examine the meaning from this remarkable event.

We are looking for more people to join the group to bring new and creative ideas. We will be meeting the second Sunday of

each month at 10:30 a.m. in Pastor’s office.

LYO Happenings!!!! The youth have been very busy during November and December. Preparations have been under way creating new additions for the Christmas Hall. For the last several Sundays and Wednesdays the youth have been very busy creating sheep, stars angels, donkeys and backdrops to decorate Christmas Hall. Decorating will begin this week. We will be meeting Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Hall will open on Saturday to welcome all visitors attending breakfast with Santa.

The youth gathering on Wednesday nights have been busy helping prepare for the Christmas play. The accolyting ministry continues to grow and develop. We continue to schedule youth to serve as acolytes for the fifth Sundays of the month and on high church celebration days. This past month our acolyte and deacon team served on the first Sunday of Advent where we débuted our Advent t’s. We had a lot of fun tie dying them ahead of time. Our next group of acolytes will be serving

both services for Christmas Eve. We have intentionally chosen a soft start to build the acolyte team and the ministry by focusing on fifth Sundays and church holidays which has been successful in creating interest and motivation. The big pic-ture is to move forward to serve all worship services each Sunday. We are moving in that direction as interest and motiva-tion continue to grow. This past Sunday after the 11:15 service, the youth gathered donning our finest Santa hats. We hit the road with Pastor as we brought the spirit of Christmas through the gift of caroling around Chili. Much fun was had by all as we finished up at the church and shared some hot cocoa together. We are saddened with the passing of our long time member at Our Saviour, John (Jim) W. Rath Jr. on December 12th, he was 89. On November 4, 1944 Jim stood with the other 33 charter members dedicating the official beginning of The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour. He was our last living charter member. The Rath family were very instrumental in overseeing the construction of the first church. The large cross on the front lawn is where our first church was built. It is a memorial to the Rath family. Jim was an honorable elder who served over 20 years on the Board of Elders. Known for his mischievous sense of humor and curious engineer's mind, Jim was a master woodworker, a skillful card player and voracious reader. He will be remembered for designing and fabricating the aisle Christmas candle holders. The oil candles for these holders were dedicated in memory of his wife, Mary Lou. A Memorial Service will be celebrated at Our Saviour on Saturday, March 26th at 2:00PM, followed by a gathering at Black Creek Park in Chili.
