River Activities
At the heart of the festival is the opportunity for everyone to enjoy the river. Whether it’s getting on board a boat for a trip down the Soar, including the fully accessible boat from the Mosaic team, splashing about in a canoe with Paddleplus or enjoying a cuppa on the floating tea shop.
If staying on dry land is more your style why not visit the trade boats while you
watch the remarkable demonstrations from the Sea Cadets and Leicester Fire Service Water Rescue team and enjoy the foot-tapping sounds of the Bill Bailey Band playing jazz along the river.
Under the Tipi on Bede park there will be a full programme of arts, dance and music, the children’s Arts & Crafts area is back alongside Ping! table tennis and the kids funfair. Across the rest of the park there will be eco stalls, food and drink vendors as well as the acoustic stage and real ale bar.
Visit the Bookbus to find out more about the Space Chase Summer Reading
Challenge 2019. Get involved in the six book reading challenge and an exciting family events programme spanning the summer holiday.
Find the Get Up and Go team on the park and Walk to the Moon this summer. Throughout the summer children, young people and their families can win points and prizes by taking part in physical activities #LeicesterMoonWalk.

House ‘Boat’ of Verse
House of Verse teams up with Circa Arcadia for the second floating stint of House Boat of Verse: a vibrant variety performance on a stage on board a beautiful canal boat bobbing on the
River Soar. Come and enjoy DJs, love music, spoken word, circus, dancing and jamming across the silver bridge from Castle Gardens by the amphitheatre steps.
Following its successful debut last year Art on the River is back, showcasing local artists who will be displaying and selling their work along the river railings. We are calling upon local artists, painters, photographers, 2D and 3D artists to take part in the festival. Along the river, there is a dedicated area for artists to display and sell their work.
The festival will give artists an opportunity to showcase and sell their work to up to 40,000 festival-goers!
Artists wanting to exhibit at Art on the River can contact Mandeep Kaur on 0116 454 3600 or by emailing [email protected]
