God’s Work, Our Hands

Inside this issue: SUMMER-LONG ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL

I greet you in the name of the One who can do all things but fail!

Beginning Sunday, June 11, the Ministry of Education will sponsor an adult Sunday School class held each Sunday morning, 8:15 – 9:15 a.m. in the Koinonia Café. The course will be Faith, Sexism, Justice: Conversations toward a Social Statement. The class is “A study from the ELCA Task Force on Women and Justice: One in Christ”. Child care will be provided.

In a letter from Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton, she writes:

“The ELCA recognizes the God-given dignity of all people and is committed to the full and equitable participation of women and men in church and society. God rejoices – and the world is blessed – when all have opportunities to flourish and freely share their gifts for the common good. Whatever your experiences and perspectives, you are invited to use this study. It is a call to hear new things and to explore together how matters of justice and sexism intersect with faith…..As people of God, set free in Christ and brought together in loving community, we are called to work for justice and the flourishing of all God’s people. We can be confident that the Holy Spirit will faithfully lead us through this conversation. God bless you as you join in.”

The study modules are:

1. Why do we need to talk together? 2. What problems do women face, and what does justice require? 3. How is sexism personal, and how are we the body of Christ together? 4. What does economic sexism look like, and how can we seek equity

for all? 5. How can we address violence against women and girls? 6. Why do words and images for God matter? 7. How do we challenge the misuse of Scripture against women and

girls?

As we complete the study, our discussions, thoughts, and opinions will be shared with the Task Force (by August 31, 2017). The Task Force will then complete the Social Statement for the 2019 ELCA Assembly. This is a great opportunity to participate in the life of the larger church as well as gain new insights and wisdom about this pernicious evil that continues to affect women and girls in our church, our homes, our communities, the workplace, school, corporations – everywhere. We will also have opportunity to discover what we can do to work for justice in this arena.

Hope to see you on Sunday, June 11, 8:15 a.m.

In the name of Jesus,

Pr. Skip

Christian Education Opportunities

EDUCATION NEWS - ** THERE WILL BE NO SUNDAY SCHOOL MAY 21ST THROUGH JUNE 4TH **

SUNDAY SCHOOL WILL RESUME on Sunday, June 11th at 8:15 am in the Café. Join us as we delve into a

study from the ELCA titled Faith, Sexism, Justice: Conversations toward a Social Statement on the topic of

justice for women in church and society. The ELCA has developed a study for congregations and groups to

gather for conversation, learning, and sharing. They have asked congregations to prayerfully study and

provide feedback for the development of a Social Statement that will be brought to the 2019 Churchwide

Assembly. Now is the time for focused conversation. It is a call to hear new things and to explore together

how matters of justice and sexism intersect with faith. We hope you will join us for this important

conversation on Sunday mornings. In order to determine how many books we will need, please call or email

Kelley in the church office or Wendy Waggoner ([email protected]) with your intention to

participate. We would also like to provide childcare if there is a need, so please let us know that as well.

TUESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY MEETS EVERY TUESDAY AT 6:30-8:00 PM IN THE CAFE. Feel free

to join us as we study the Gospel of Mary Magdala. Lost for more than 1500 years, this gospel is the only

early Christian gospel written in the name of a woman. This study is fascinating and challenging. Hope

you’ll consider stopping in!

THURSDAY MORNING STUDY GROUP that meets in the snack bar at the Target Lakeline will be taking a

break over the summer months. Their last meeting will be May 25th. A new study will resume in September.

Stay posted for information on a date and subject of study. This is a great group, so please join them and

bring your friends too.

Kindred Sisters

Kindred Sisters had their May meeting on Tuesday, May

2nd, at 10:30 a.m. at the Koinonia Cafe at

LOLLC. Alyson Pirotina, owner or LOL Kids Day Out

(KDO), gave a very interesting presentation on her

mission of child care here at Lord of Life! She and her

husband, Fred, operate the pre-school and after-school

child care program right here on our Lord of Life

campus! She shared how she started this 13 year

ministry, and the different sites she has established, the

required licensing, etc. We were able to tour the facility,

meet the personnel, and see the precious children! We are

so blessed to have this much needed and appreciated

facility here! We also have our own small bus to

transport the children! Thank you so much, Alyson!

We enjoyed devotions, prayer, and shared fellowship as

we ate our sack lunches and enjoyed delicious dessert

served by our May hostess, Marge Kretschmar. Thank

you so much, Marge!

Our June meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 6th, at

10:30 a.m. at the Koinonia Cafe at LOLLC. We will have

a program on "God's Flowering Beauty"! Glenace

Klinker's husband, Ted, has propared a short film on some

of God's beautiful flowers, and we ask that each lady, if

possible, bring a small individual flower or plant to the

meeting. We will all share some special gardening facts or

favorite plants in our yards! All ladies of LOLLC are

welcome to attend! Please join us for a fun and

interesting time of fellowship! Please bring your own sack

lunch, and dessert and refreshments will be provided by

our June hostess. Any questions, please e-mail Joanne

Forseth at joforseth@ gmail.com, or call cell phone at 512

-925-0926. Thank you!

Notes of interest: Please bring cancelled stamps for our Stamporee project

There will not be a July meeting - busy family/travel month!

We will meet again in August for a restaurant luncheon (TBD)

Have a wonderful summer!
