About Canucks Autism Network Canucks Autism Network (CAN) provides high-quality sports and recreation programs for individuals and families living with autism, while increasing awareness and providing training in communities across British Columbia. The CAN team consists of a diverse group of trained staff, experienced support workers and dedicated volunteers who administer programs in safe and supportive environments. (Ages 7-17yrs) Bike
Program Structure & Supports
Each session of the Bike program consists of a 90 minute lesson, once a day, Monday to Friday. Sessions for this program take place during summer (July-August). Each day, lessons will include a mix of individual practice and group games that work on skills such as balance, pedaling, steering and braking.
Participants enrolled into the Bike program must provide their own bike and helmet.

The purpose of the I CAN Bike program is to teach children and youth with autism how to ride a bike in a safe and supportive environment.

Kelowna Day Camps offer participants with autism, and their siblings, the opportunity to attend themed day camps. Each week, the day camp will have a different theme, which include bike and sports, arts and crafts, adventure, and science. Participants will have the opportunity to go on unique community outings in the afternoons, which include paddle boarding, swimming and various beach activities. The high ratio of staff provided help participants to enjoy the themed activities, as well as encourage participants to get to know each other and build peer relationships.

The Monthly Social Group offers the opportunity for youth (13-17yrs) and young adults (18+yrs) with autism to get together and have a good time in a safe and supportive environment. The events change each month to offer a range of fun, age appropriate activities for participants to experience with their peers.
Program Structure & Supports Participants are encouraged to engage in positive social interactions with the assistance of trained program staff, leaders, experienced support staff, and dedicated volunteers.

Summer 2018 Outdoor Rec Locations & Times*
The Outdoor Rec program, in partnership with Power to Be, offers youth and adults with autism the opportunity to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities in a safe and supportive environment.
Multisport
Program Structure & Supports The Outdoor Rec program is led by Power to Be, and participants are highly supported by trained CAN staff and dedicated volunteers. Activities vary month-to-month, and may include hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, geocaching, and more. CAN and Power To Be will be working in collaboration to provide high quality, outdoor recreation activities in a safe and fun environment.

(Ages 6+yrs) Overnight Camp
Overnight camp is an opportunity for participants with autism to experience an unforgettable outdoor experience in an organized group setting, where participants are encouraged to try new things and connect with peers. A high ratio of staff is provided to ensure a safe and successful overnight experience for all.
Activities include boating, ropes course, archery, rock climbing, ocean swimming, field games, campfires and more! Participants are grouped according to age for all camp activities and sleeping accommodations.
Program Criteria For individuals with autism, ages 6+yrs Registered CAN Member Those participants confirmed into a 2018 Overnight Kids, Teens and Young Adults Camp, must be committed to the following: Pay camp fee ($500 for 3-day camp, $750 for 5-day camp) Submit a completed CAN medical form signed by a physician (due to the CAN office Friday, June 29) Submit a completed online camper information form will be sent to confirmed campers in early July Providing their own transportation to and from the drop off location in Vancouver Attend the entire duration of the camp *By completing the online program registration for Overnight Camp, you are acknowledging that you understand and accept these conditions.

*The 5-day camp is open for registration for participants 6+yrs, this longer camp is designed for participants ages 13+yrs, and these older participants will be first considered when looking at registration requests. Younger participants are welcome to submit a request for the 5-day camp, but we encourage them to also consider submitting a request for the 3-day camp.
Registration for Summer 2018 Overnight Kids, Teens & Young Adults Camps
Online registration is open from Monday, April 9, at noon—Friday, April 13, at noon All registrations will be listed as PENDING, meaning that enrolment is not confirmed. All participants who submit requests during the online registration period will be notified of
their registration status by end of day on Friday, April 20. Due to the high demand for this program, confirmed enrolment is not guaranteed. Our
goal with registration is to accommodate as many unique individuals into programs as possible throughout the year, as well as offer new opportunities to interested participants.

Parent Collaboration
At Canucks Autism Network (CAN), we strive to meet the needs of each participant through parent collaboration. Our staff receives training on a variety of support strategies for children and youth with autism, Please do not hesitate to speak with coaches and support staff about strategies to use with your child (e.g. Visual schedules, first-then boards, token systems, social stories, etc.).
Online Program Registration
For the majority of our programs, we use a registration process called Pending Enrolment. This means that spots are not provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, and that requests received are Pending confirmation. All those who submit registration requests during the online registration period, will be notified of their updated registration status within seven days of registration closing.
The Pending Enrolment registration process is used so that we may accommodate as many unique individuals into CAN programs throughout the year as possible. As well, it allows for more participants to have the opportunity to try new programs and activities.
Due to high demand for CAN programs, confirmed enrolment is not guaranteed.
Additional Information

Once a participant is confirmed into a program with a fee, they will be provided payment details. Accepted methods of payment include:
· Credit Card
· Autism Funding
o Participants ages 6-18yrs are able to submit a Request to Pay form to Autism Funding for the program fee.
o For participants 5yrs and younger, parents/guardians are encouraged to contact Autism Funding to inquire about eligibility of program fee being covered through a participant’s funding.
· Cheque
· Cash
· Additional Payment Options
o Along with the payment options listed above, CAN is open to working with participants to collect program fee payments through additional routes, including bursaries
· CAN Fee Assistance Program
o CAN does not wish a program fee to act as a barrier to participation in a CAN program and has created a fee assistance program to help alleviate these barriers for participants needing assistance. For participants confirmed into a program with an associated fee, parents may email [email protected] to request an application form and more information about the CAN Fee Assistance Program.
More specifics on how to process these fees will be provided to participants for participants confirmed into programs.
