    2013 Kansas City RIMS Student Summer Internship ProgramGeneral Information

    Participating Schools: University of Central Missouri

    Oklahoma State University Missouri State University University of Missouri Kansas State University University of Kansas UMKC Park University Avila University William Jewell

    General Program Guidelines: Proceeds from the KC RIMS Spencer golf tournament will be used to fund

    internship grants. Each grant will be $5,000 per internship period. Financial results of the golf tournament will determine the number of available

    grants. Grants will be made by KC RIMS directly to the employer. An internship period must cover 8 weeks. Participating schools will screen students and distribute application forms to

    candidates that meet the eligibility requirements. Students must complete an application and submit it with a general resume by

    November 23, 2012. The internship committee will review employer and student applications and

    assist the employer in selecting students whose career goals and objectivescomplement the employer's needs.

    Eligible Employers: Any KC RIMS Chapter Member or Associate member mayapply to host a student intern.

    Employer Responsibilities: The prospective employer will submit an application describing the proposedwork assignments and methods of supervising and mentoring the student by

    November 16, 2012. Employer agrees that once an application has been submitted, it will provide a

    representative who will participate on the internship committee to facilitate theintern selection process.

    Employer is responsible for interviewing, hiring, and paying the intern. KC RIMS is not the employer and assumes none of the employer/employee legal

    requirements. The sponsoring employer is responsible all employee payroll

    withholdings, employer matching contributions, tax filings, and other legallyapplicable employee mandated requirements. The sponsoring employer is alsoresponsible for other benefits such as workers compensation and unemploymentinsurance.

    Employers also reimburse students for out of pocket costs for business travel ifapplicable.

    The employer, at its sole discretion, is free to supplement intern compensationbeyond the amount of the RIMS grant.

    In event of premature termination of the internship (premature being less than8 weeks) employer must return pro-rata the unused portion of the grant.

    Employer is not responsible to provide housing for the intern. Employer will conduct periodic written or verbal feedback sessions with the

    intern throughout the internship period and complete a written performancereport at the conclusion of the internship.

    Eligible Students: Must be a bona-fide undergraduate student during the time of the internship. Must have completed 45 credit hours prior to commencing internship. Must be pursuing a Risk and Insurance, Safety Science, Fire Protection,

    Actuarial Science major or a Business Administration, Accounting, orFinance major and are taking the insurance and risk-related courses offered bytheir educational institution prior to the internship and must have completed sixsemester hours toward a major before the beginning of the internship.

    Must have achieved a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4 point scale.Student Housing: Interns are responsible for arranging their own housing during the internship. These are the options available in 2012:Rockhurst University

    Park University- Standard dormitory rooms available at $10.00 per night- Central kitchen facility available; in room microwave and mini-fridge allowed- Limited in-dorm food service available on cash basis, restaurants near campus- Coin operated laundry in dorms
