❖ Healthy Habits: During summer vacation, we gain weight up to three times faster than during the

school year, according to the National Summer Learning Association. Obesity is a growing, national epidemic, which can lead to serious health problems, including Type 2 diabetes. Making small

changes one day at a time can go a long way toward helping you live a healthier life .Here are some tips for starting your healthy summer habits:

• Limit TV and computer time.

• Plan a time to get out of the house for walks, trips to the park or other physical activities.

• Eat a more balanced diet

• Do simple exercise regularly and get your beauty sleep

• Take time to find new passions ❖ Reading Habits: Reading is not just an important habit it is also a way to enjoy informative, creative,

and inspiring works of literature that enrich our life experiences.

• Make time for reading out of your busy schedule

• Make a reading list

• Keep reading materials handy.

• Read newspaper everyday ❖ Helping poor and needy people: There are people who have much more than they need to live while

others have barely enough to survive.

• Fund Raising

• Donate Groceries/Eatables

• Collection Drive

• Donate old clothes and toys ❖ Positive ideas for positive change: Negative thinking is like a giant wall. It closes you in, keeps you

from accomplishing goals, and blocks you from moving forward in life—whether it be learning, growing, or obtaining happiness. What’s one way to stop this from happening? By encouraging a

positive attitude

• Be an example. Model a positive, encouraging attitude in all that you say, do, and believe.

• Visualize a positive outcome from every scenario before starting.

• Eliminate negative verbiage from your dialogue.

• Pen down any one change that you want to bring to the school system. ❖ Land your hand to fight global warming: By the next 10 months, our earth will become 4 degrees

hotter than what it is now. Our Himalayan glaciers are melting at rapid rate. So let all of us lend our hands to fight GLOBAL WARMING. The greatest aspirations of humankind have always been to save

the world, and also save ourselves. However, there are little things that you can do on a daily basis to make yourself feel better while also making the world a better place.

• Use public transport and save fuel.

• Eat only seasonal fruits and vegetables. Reduce import. Reduce Carbon dioxide

• Turn off extra lights and fans. Switch to LEDs or CFls and save energy

• Wash your car using water in a bucket and save water

• Reduce your paper usage simply by using emails and e docs and save trees.

• Say no to plastic bags and Save earth. ❖ Plant a sapling in a ceramic earthen pot (4-6 inch) stick a message on environment on a stick in

beautiful writing and bring as a gift to any friend of yours.

Today, when we go to purchase an electrical appliance for our house, the number of choices

available exceeds our capacity to understand and evaluate them. We are heavily loaded with information on a large number of products. This may at times land us in purchasing something that

might not be the best option for us. However, once purchased, they are going to stay in our house almost till the life of the appliance, say 8-10 years for expensive appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners or washing machines. Depending on whether we are purchasing it for the first time or

upgrading/replacing an existing item, an important factor that must be understood is how much electricity that the appliance will consume once it is purchased. An understanding of how much extra money we may need to pay for an appliance that consumes less energy will prove useful in the long

run. Research has proven that our purchase decisions are largely driven by the cost of owning the appliance (paid at the time of purchase) and we tend to overlook the cost of using the appliance

(paid in installments in the electricity bill).
