environs of the Nanda Devi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. in the outer Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand state, It is believed to have been caused by a landslide, an avalanche or a glacial lake outburst flood. It has caused flooding in the Chamoli district, most notably in the Rishiganga river, the Dhauliganga river, and in turn the Alaknanda—the major headstream of the Ganga.

2. LOCUST ATTACK In May 2020, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were severely affected by locust swarms measuring a kilometer wide, the worst locust attack in 27 years. In June, millions of locusts swarmed on a massive scale in Gurgaon, Delhi-NCR region making it look like a sand storm. 3. DROUGHT Drought is the most widespread hydro-meteorological syndrome of 'prolonged period of water scarcity affecting natural resources, environment and, thereby, the people'. Environmental changes, viz. climate change, land-use changes and natural resource degradation have aggravated drought occurrences and vulnerability, thus disrupting the normal socio-economic settings. Regions of Rajasthan, Bundelkhand, Karnataka and Orissa are typical examples of drought-related deprivation and resultant conflicts, whereas drought in states like Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, etc. are the result of improper agriculture practices and poor water management.
