On Tuesday, August 8th, a City of Detroit Municipal Primary is scheduled for the purpose of nominating candidates to the offices of Mayor, City Clerk, City Council At-Large and City Council by Districts. The contents of this newsletter contains a sample ballot, your precinct number and location, a list of City Council by district candidates and, for those who qualify, a list of candidates in State Representative District One (1).
The Department of Elections is proud to introduce new voting equipment. Upon arriving
to your polling location you will be greeted by well-trained p o l l w o r k e r s and the new I m a g e C a s t P r e c i n c t
Tabulator (ICP). The ImageCast X Ballot Marking Device (ICX), will be available as well.
These new state-of-the-art voting devices are voter and pollworker friendly. After you cast your ballot in the usual manner by filling in the ovals to the right of the candidate of your choice you will then be directed to insert your ballot in the ICP Tabulator. Upon the tabulator receiving
your ballot the display screen will inform you of the status of your ballot. If you voted correctly, the display will read: “Ballot Successfully Cast.” If you vote incorrectly, the tabulator will alert you and instruct you on how to correct it.
The ICX protects the privacy, anonymity and dignity of the voter with varying a b i l i t i e s . This voting device is e q u i p p e d with audio and video to assist voters on how to navigate, complete and cast their ballot. When using this device you will receive a balloting card from the precinct pollworker. When your ballot appears on the touch screen, the ICX walks you through each step of voting your ballot. After you are done voting, the ICX will allow you to review and print your ballot. Finally, to cast your vote, you simply insert your ballot into the ICP Tabulator.
To enhance your Election Day experience, please take time to review all of the information contained in this newsletter.
For more information, please call (313) 876-0190.

On Tuesday, November 8, 2011, a General Election will be held to vote for Detroit Public Schools Board Members by district. Also appearing on the ballot will be Proposal C, the charter revision question proposed by the Detroit Charter Commission. Both the candidates for School Board and Proposal C deserve your attention. In the following pages you will have an opportunity to preview both items that will appear on the ballot. Please note that in School
run as a candidate. Therefore, electors may vote for a write-in candidate. Also, for your convenience, a copy of the proposed charter and/or a summary of its revisions will be at the polls for your review on Election Day. Remember that the charter serves as Detroit’s constitution and is designed to target accountability for city services. The charter allows
for public engagement in both community and political affairs. Because the city charter provides a “blueprint” for city government and embodies the City’s underlying fundamental values, it is important that you voice your opinion by voting on this question. Whether the Detroit City Charter is amended or not, we need to hear from you on Election Day.Remember:• To determine your respective School Board District and your Election Day polling location, please refer to the chart below. You must vote at your assigned district and precinct. Michigan Election Law mandates that the address on your driver’s license
match your voter registration address. Therefore, if the address on your driver’s license
is different from the address
below, you are not registered to vote in the district and precinct indicated.• When going to vote on Election Day, be prepared to show an acceptable form of photo
order to vote.• Study your sample ballot and the voting instructions before Election Day and you will be properly equipped to vote.• If you are not certain where to vote or need additional information regarding the General Election, contact the Registration Division of the Department of Elections at 313-876-0190.• The polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Anyone in line before the polls close will be allowed to vote.
