Every man has two hundred and forty eight limbs. It is brought down, על פי
give support to these limbs. This is because קריאת שמע that the words of the ,קבלהof the number of words in the Shema. The problem is that the Shema has only two hundred and forty seven words. Where do we get the extra word from?
The answer is, that this is why we add the word אמת to the Shema. The word אמת is really part of the next part of ברכות קריאת שמע. By adding the word אמת, we now have two hundred and forty eight words, enough to sustain the limbs of the body.
The דגל מחנה אפרים explains, that this is hinted to in ואתחנן. Where do we find the idea of adding אמת to the שמע?
The פסוק says, “ואתם הדבקים בה‘ אלקיכם חיים כלכם היום”, “and you who attach yourselves to Hashem, you are alive today”. The simple understanding of this פסוק is that by clinging to Hashem we are considered to be alive in the most complete sense.
The דגל מחנה אפרים, says that we derive something else from this פסוק as well. The letters of the word “ואתם”, can be reordered and read as, “ואמת”, meaning, “and אמת”. The above פסוק would then be read as, “and אמת, when it is attached to When .”ה‘ אלקיכם“ ,you are alive today.” The last words of the Shema are ,ה‘ אלקיכםwe add ואמת to these words than we are alive, because through the two hundred and forty eight words, we sustain ourselves.
Although the full meaning of these ideas are complex and based on the secrets of have tremendous power, and they do indeed תפילות one thing is clear. Our ,קבלהsustain us. Let us have this in mind as we prepare to daven.
Super-Stunning Seventh Week highlightS
10’s – This fantastic week our division went to FunStation USA. Each boy got a card to play games, arcades, air-hockey, bumper cars, and more! Rabbi Schwartz won 1200 tickets and di-vided them up for all of his campers. This week was COLOR WAR! B11 was on the Green team vs. B12 & 13 who were on team Blue. Both teams played hard, cheering, running, bentching, and playing with achdus. In the relay races, Green team won the leap-frog race and the wheelbarrow race, while Blue won the 4 part relay finale. Blue won the penny hunt in the pool. Green won the division dodgeball game. It’s definitely very close…The winner will be announced before camp ends today!!!
20’s – The 20’s had a “Blazing” time at Hot Skates! Rabbi Weiss, Laiv Blinder, and Shmuel Fin-kelstein made up a dance on the skating ring for Simcha Le’artzecha! B24 enjoyed the red slushies that they won last week at Payday! B23 got to have a water fight that they enjoyed on Wednesday! The Blue team won the relay races on day 1 of Color War! Ben Battalion and Oliver Rozenberg led the Blue team with their stellar offense in baseball. Cheskel Bodner, Zevi Jacobs and Meir Weiser had a superb week just having a great time and really enjoying camp. Shmuel Rizel, Shua Rand, Orel Cohen and Yechezkel Wiesner were back to swimming like fishes now that the 9 Days are over and we’re back to having 2 swims a day. Yehuda Baum, Doni Berg and Akiva Gorin could not believe that Color War finally came to SDC. Shlomo Gefen, Yaakov Zand and Dovid Obadia really got into the cheering by lunch. Akiva Axelrod and Avi Manela loved painting their projects in art.
30’s – Another fantaboulus week in the 30’s division. This week they went on an amazing trip to Hot Skates roller skating rink. While there, many brave campers roller skated for the first time and loved it. They also saw counselor Donny Rudansky show his true colors wrapping himself in his American flag. The whole camp was treated to a fantastic Color War breakout. Out of nowhere, a stretch limo pulled up to camp. The boys waited with baited breath to see who would come out of the limo. Finally, a secret service agent came out of the limo and escort-ed “Donald Trump” and others to address the camp. The 30’s division was feeling a bit sad they felt like they were not being represented in the breakout at all. But finally “Hillary Clinton” in-troduced her pet gorilla “Ben Gazi” AKA Rabbi Schwadel, and the 30’s roared with excitement. Really an amazing week!
40’s – On Monday, the Funky Ferraris went to Bounce: boys jumped on trampolines, did flips, cartwheels and somersaults into foam pits, dunked on basketball hoops and played bounce dodgeball. Rabbi Rada joined in the dodgeball taking care of counselor Shlomo Nierman and remaining the last one standing. Tuesday: because of the senior overnight the 40’s had 2 league
games. It was Smiley Day as Rabbi Rada wore a smiley shirt, everyone got a smiley sticker and a smiley bouncy ball to remind them to always smile...even though no such reminder is needed in SDC. Wednesday: after the Ferraris saw “Donald Trump” (shhh… it was Rabbi Rada pretend-ing to be Trump for Color War breakout), they had intense relay races for Color War including leap frog, a counselor relay, agility race and a “suicide race” as campers had to pick up cones and put them back on the starting line. The boys showed tremendous achdus and sportsmanship as they cheered each other on. Kudos to the boys who ran the races as it really tested their speed, endurance and will.
Upper Division – What a week! We had a meaningful Nine Days culminating in a somber, inspiring Tisha B’Av. The next day SDC Seniors were back in action. This division went the next morning to the most spectacular OVERNIGHT EVER. It was straight to Ring Homestead where they played Paintball and did the famous ropes course and zip lining. From there, they went to our base for the night, SPORTIME USA. They had the entire place and all their activities just for SDC campers for the whole night. After all that and a few winks of sleep, they davened and were treated to danishes and chocolate milk. From there, they went for lunch and then off to the most amazing and wild water park, “MOUNTAIN CREEK.” Lazy rivers, bowl slide, no look drops and cliff jumps - out of this world. They come home to a BBQ and a good night sleep only to come to camp the next morning to have the Donald come to see his “grandson Moshe Chaim” and be debated by Mrs. Clinton and even the current President. All this to introduce our COLOR WAR Generals, Noah Tepper (Blue Team) and Arie Fellner (Green Team). We will only know the results of the war late Friday afternoon so stay tuned….
CIT’s - It’s hard to believe that the summer is almost over. We had an amazing week in camp! We began the week with a bang, going on our 2nd overnight trip of the summer! We boarded beautiful air conditioned coach buses to our 1st leg of the trip, Ring Homestead. We went paint-balling, did the ropes course, and even got in a few good games of volleyball and Spikeball. We ate a delicious dinner of hero sandwiches and then davened Mincha. After that, we went back on the bus and headed out to Sportime USA, where the boys were going to spend the night. When we arrived, the boys went straight to the indoor batting cages, laser tag, XD theater rides, and arcade games, just to name a few. The boys played late into the night (well, technically into the morning). The boys woke up the next day and after davening Shacharis, continued right where they left off. We then headed to a park in nearby Monsey, where Rabbi Heller gave a shiur on the lessons of Tisha B’av and what each of us in our own way can come out with. We then enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch from one of Monsey’s best pizza shops. And no, we weren’t done. We headed off to the next leg of our trip, Mountain Creek Waterpark! It was unbelievable! The rides were spectacular and the boys had a great time. Afterwards the boys headed back to camp where they enjoyed a delicious BBQ, SDC style. The boys went home exhausted but extremely happy. The next day we were paid a special visit by Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and her new pet, Ben Ghazi (ok it was Color War breakout). The CIT’s were very help-ful during Color War and had fun participating.
Gut Shabbos to every SDC Camper! Keep pumping the Simcha over Shabbos.

So much has happened in this past week of leagues! Teams that were at the bottom are now at the top! The teams are so close right now that any game can rocket a team up to a higher position
On Friday the Lightning were behind by 8 but they didn’t give up and had an unexpected comeback by winning 10-9 all thanks to Chaim Aryeh Weiss who kicked the ball all the way to the outfield and two runners scored to tie up the game. Then came Pinchas Posnick with a great homerun that scored him home to com-plete the comeback. Once again Yirmi Gross from the Strikers saved his team’s game by hitting a three run homer. The Homers scored 8 runs with the help of Yoeli Saeur who provided a lead off baserunner that came around to score the first run of the game.
On Tuesday there were two games. In game 1: Yaakov Schonbrun from Lightning caught Shmuel Berg’s pop up hit to pit stop helping his team
to a victory where the Rippers were up by 1 and then Pinchas Posnick hit a two run homer in last licks with two outs to take the lead. In soccer Yirmi Gross made an amazing pass to Akiva Mosak who scored the 4th goal of the game. Also Moti Lightman made 2 goals off passes from Yirmi. Elisha Rodin drove down off three people across the field to score the 3rd goal of the game. In a crazy game of Kickball by the Stomp-ers, their entire team got at least one run, and Zevi Adler had two doubles and a homerun, Avi Wollner had a three run homer, and the stompers batted around the lineup three times in one inning. They won 37-7.
In game 2: Elisha Rodin hit an RBI singleto make the score 1-0 and Moti Lightman hit a grand slam to take the lead 5-4. Aron Fuksbrumer made an astounding catch in deep center field to stop a possible grand slam. Aron Biderman from the Homers snagged a line drive at first base to hold the runners in place and keep it a scoreless inning.
On Tuesday night there was a lightning storm in the 5 towns and Rockaways area because the Lightning struck twice in their games that day with 2 huge victories.
Next up on Wednesday Motti Lightman from the Strikers kicked an RBI double to tie up the game 6-6. Moshe Meisner from the stompers made an unassisted double play by tagging the runner and stepping on first to end the inning with no runs. The Lightning’s momentum continues with them getting their third win in a row all because of excellent teamwork. Lightning had gotten a one two three inning thanks to great catch-es by Yaakov Schonbrun, Tzvi Potash and Pinchas Posnick.
Finally on Thursday, the Homers won 3-0 thanks to three goals by Avi Bleiberg, excellent defense by Nissi Weiss, Liam Harrel’s excellent job as their goalie. The Gippers’ Yosef Nissanov hit a run scoring double, and Yoni Pilchik’s defense saved a second run. But the Strikers kept on fighting with Yirmi Gross hitting a walkoff RBI single to bring home Elisha Rodin..
That’s all for this week guys. I hope you’re getting pumped because next week we have…….PLAYOFFS!!
