During the month of July 2016 the Sutton Public Library and the Sutton Food Pantry

invite you to pay off your library fines with food. For each non-perishable item that

you bring in to the Library $1.00 in fines will be taken off of your library card and

you will receive a ticket for the summer reading raffle prizes! Fines must be Sutton

Public Library fines, not fines from other libraries. Food for Fines cannot be used to

pay for missing, lost or damaged items. All items will be donated to the Sutton Food

Pantry.

Writing Group

Join local author Lisa Shea for a writing group at the Sutton Library. Come bounce your ideas off of other authors and get creative and constructive feedback.

Adult Coloring Group

Tuesdays, June 2, July 7, August 4 at 6:30 PM

Join in on the latest craze with our Adult Coloring Group. We meet the 1st Thursday of the month. No need to register, just drop in. Bring your own coloring books and pencils, or use ours.

Krosslink

Tuesdays, June 28, July 26, August 23 at 6:30 PM

Sutton Library has joined a growing community of libraries who have partnered with Krosslink.org, an organization encouraging entrepreneurship. Meetings will be held once a month and alternate between expert speakers, ‘bar stool’ pitch sessions (entrepreneurs pitching their ideas and getting instant feedback), and case studies. The idea is to give entrepreneurs a place to network, meet mentors, and bounce ideas off of like-minded individuals.

Beginning Photography: Telling Your Stories Through Pictures

Tuesday, June 28, July 12, 19, 26, and August 2 and 9 at 6 PM

This is a 6 week beginner photography class that will focus on photography basics such as: telling a story; composition and point of focus; daring to go manual; lighting; using PhotoShop basics to manipulate images; assembling your story; and photography contests.

With registration, there is also a $20 fee, to be paid by the first week of class. Registration required.

Fused Glass Fun!

Thursday, July 14 at 6:30 PM

Come play with glass in this easy, fun workshop. Learn to design beautiful pendants with pre-cut dichroic glass (pronounced dye-cro-ick), as well as powder and frit made from crushed glass. Registration required.

This program is funded by a donation from UniBank.

Aromatherapy Workshop

Tuesday, August 16 at 6 PM

At this hands-on workshop we will learn about the ancient history of healing botanicals and natural essential oils. We will then choose from a wide variety of dried botanicals such as peppermint, rosemary, and lavender. We will create a dream pillow, and use healing salts to create some spa essentials such as bath salts and more! Registration required.

Makey-Makey Inventors Workshop with Bonus Minecraft Play

Saturday, June 11 at 12 PM Ages 8 and up

The "Makey Makey" (makeymakey.com), invented by gradu-ate students at MIT, is a small circuit board that connects to a computer and lets you invent your own keyboard with any-thing that conducts electricity. Use bananas to play a virtual piano or band instruments! Use a pencil and PlayDoh to make a controller for a computer game! Various conductive materials will be provided to get everyone started, but kids are encouraged to bring their own. Things that would con-duct electricity well: fruit, green leaves, flowers, soda cans, metal bottle caps. Parents are encouraged to attend the workshop with their children. They'll have lots of fun too! This program is funded by a donation from The Oster-man Family Foundation.

Evil Genius Club Ages 8-13

Here at the EGC, we are recruiting those with a certain some-thing, that spark of curiosity that could save the world or de-stroy it! We have robots, little bits, and motorized Legos, oh my! We will build! We will destroy! Join us!

This is a four-week program that will be run twice this sum-mer starting in June and then again in July. Knowing your busy schedules, you can sign up for either the morning or afternoon group. Each group has a class size limited to six people. Each session follows the same syllabus.

Session 1: Wednesday, June 22, June 29, July 6, July 13 – Morning group at 10:30 AM - Afternoon group at 3:30 PM

Session 2: Thursday, July 21, July 29, August 4, August 11 – Morning group at 10:30 AM - Afternoon group at 3:30 PM

Digital Photography Basics Ages 14 and up

To add your name to the contact list which we will hand out to parents looking for babysitters, please call the library at 508-865-8752 or email Shannon Duffy (Youth Services Librarian) at [email protected] and provide your name, preferred contact information for the list (phone and/or e-mail), and any credentials you would like included (i.e., any babysitting classes taken or certifications received, years of babysitting service, etc.) for this list.

80’s Night: Just Dance Competition Ages 12-18

Friday, July 29 from 4-6 PM

So you think you can dance? Prove it! Compete with and against your friends in a Just Dance battle royal. Prepare for a night of big hair, leg warmers, and sweating to the oldies.

Medical Murder Mystery Ages 12-18

Saturday, August 13 from 4-6 PM

Is there a doctor in the room? Well, yes there is, but they might be a murderer too! Are you ready for a medical-themed murder mystery event where you get to play an inte-gral part in the story? Join us in the library after hours, while you act out your role and try to discover who the villain is. Please register by July 25 if you would like a role in the mur-der mystery story and please include your e-mail address when you register. We will e-mail you your character’s name and storyline prior to the day of the event.

Rhode Island Computer Museum presents: Coding with Minecraft

Monday, August 15 from 1-3 PM Ages 8 – 12

Learn how to summon lightning bolts with a bow and arrow or build giant rainbows in the Minecraft world with code! Spawn farm animals or monsters instantly and have fun "modding" your world! This workshop introduces coding con-cepts by showing students how to build or change (e.g. mod) the game using the Javascript or Python programming lan-guage. The set-up is easy for beginners, challenging for expe-rienced gamers and fun for everyone!

Library Trustees

The Library Trustees meet in Room 1-A on the 3rd floor of the Town Hall. All meetings are open to the public and are televised on Charter channel 191 and Verizon channel 31. Upcoming meetings are posted on the Li-brary and Town of Sutton websites.

Planning and design project

The Library Building Needs Committee continues to meet and assess the needs of a future Library facility. At

this time site studies are being conducted on several sites in town and schematic drawings are being done by an

architect.

The Sutton Seed Lending Library, located in the Sutton Library, is open! We have free open-pollinated, heir-

loom seeds available to patrons. Browse the collection in our seed catalog, select some seeds, plant them in

your garden, and try your hand at seed saving in the fall. By returning some of those seeds to the library, you

are helping to continue heirloom varieties and sharing with your community.

Storytime at the Bank! Ages 1-5

Join Ms. Shannon at the new UniBank (next to Market 32 and Five Guys) for stories and a craft!

UniBank’s storytime will take place two Mondays every month at 10:30 AM in the branch Community Room.

No registration is required.

Comic mime Robert Rivest entertains audiences of all ages while joyfully motivating them to get up and get moving. This

family show is full of audience participation! In addition to Robert’s hilarious mime stories, everyone will learn cool mime

movements, awesome laughter exercises and calming mindfulness activities. Together, we will act out exciting characters

and stories highlighting favorite Sports/ Health/ Fitness exercises and a comic mime “poem” about the joys of reading and

having fun at the library. Pure fun! Pure joy!

Animal Invaders with the Museum of Science Recommended for kids and teens ages 5-18, as well as adults

Friday, August 19 at 1 pm

3rd Floor Town Hall Meeting Room

This presentation demonstrates that animals are an integral part of our environment, living among us whether we want

them to or not! Learning to “live green” includes learning to coexist with the animals that share our planet, in addition to

making our planet a better place for humans to live. We discuss the ecological benefits and potential risks associated with

living in close proximity to some of these animals, and we observe up to three live examples of the invaders in question.

Funded by a Museum of Science Traveling Programs scholarship and donation from the Osterman Family Foundation.
