SPORTSWheelchair Rugby

July-December Tuesday and Thursday 2-5pm - $75 | Saturday 12-3pm - $25 Wheelchair or Quad Rugby is a fast paced and competitive sport for individuals with physical disabilities that affect all four extremities. Players use special “Rugby Wheelchairs” to play the sport. These chairs are very maneuverable and can take a hit or two. Rugby players must be able to push their own wheelchairs. August 26-28Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center - 1301 Valley RoadThe City of Reno Adaptive Recreation Program will host their annual low point wheelchair rugby tournament. Teams from the United States Quad Rugby Association (USQRA) will join the Reno/Tahoe High Fives in a fun filled and competitive weekend of wheelchair rugby. Northern California/Nevada Adaptive Cycling Series: Reno

Saturday, June 12: 9am-1pm | Cost: FREEDamonte Ranch High School - 10500 Rio Wrangler PkwyRiders new to adaptive cycling will have an opportunity to sample a range of adaptive cycles on the Damonte Ranch Wetlands Loop. Intermediate and advanced riders will start their ride from the same location but can travel up to 20 miles on the Damonte Ranch lanes. Friends and family members are welcome to ride but are also required to register. This clinic is made possible through a generous donation from Nevada Paralyzed Veterans of America, and through financial support from U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, via a generous grant from the Craig H. Reno Named Stop on New Handcycle Race SeriesBiggest Little Para-Cycling Weekend

June 10 - Tour de Nez Para-Cycling Time Trial June 11 - Tour De Nez Para-Cycling Crit June 12 - Northern Nevada/California Adaptive Cycling ClinicThe City of Reno was awarded financial support from U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, via a generous grant from the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation. The grant funding is designed to provide more domestic, handcycling competition opportunities for individuals with spinal cord injuries. In addition to the competitions, the grant funding from the Neilsen Foundation also enables each race organizer to host a learn-to-handcycle clinic. Through the clinics, athletes will learn more about the sport, hone their skills and get a real hands-on experience with trained coaches and athletes. Join us while we cycle various locations in Northern California and Nevada throughout the summer/fall. There will be a series of organized rides in the Bay Area, Sacramento, Chico, Monterey, and Reno. Each ride will offer routes of varying distances for beginner to advanced cyclists.

Horse & H’ArtA unique kids camp combining equine activities and amazing art

LET’S HORSE AROUND! You’ve heard of horse whisperers, right? Imagine your children learning how to “connect” and “experience” these majestic animals in a safe, supervised equine program. Bring your kids to scenic Horseman’s Park located at the corner of Skyline Blvd and Pioneer Dr in Southwest Reno where Center for Adaptive Riding provides specially trained horses and Professional Assoc. of Therapeutic Horsemanship Certified Instructors for a unique experience of “horse play”. Kids learn relationship building and basic riding skills while playing games with their new 4-legged friends! SCHEDULE AGES: 6 & UP June 15 (Wed) 9:00a-1:30p June 19 (Sun) 9:00a-1:30p July 20 (Wed) 9:00a-1:30p July 24 (Sun) 9:00a-1:30p Aug 10 (Wed) 9:00a-1:30p Aug 14 (Sun) 9:00a-1:30p Campers will need to bring a sack lunch and water bottle. Arts and Crafts Class We’ve teamed up with Arts for all Nevada to provide Weekly Wonders, a craft/art workshop held on Thursdays from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at the Larry D. Johnson Community Center, 1200 12th St. Participants (16 yrs. or older) will develop their artistic abilities through a variety of fun projects. Cost: $5 per month. BowlingBring your friends and come out to practice your game and have a great time too. Every Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. at Coconut Bowl! We keep track of scores to average for the Special Olympics tournaments. Cost: $2 per game. No pre-registration necessary.

Team River Runner

It’s time to start paddling again. Team River Runner (TRR), established in August 2004 in the Washington, DC area, is an all-volunteer organization run by kayakers. Through white water kayaking on various rivers, lakes, and the ocean, TRR promotes health, healing, and new challenges for healing Veterans and their families. Project HERO

Saving Lives by Restoring Hope & PurposeRide 2 Recovery’s Project HERO (Healing Exercise Rehabilitation Opportunity) provides training and supports cycling programs at military hospitals, Army Warrior Transitions Units, Marine Wounded Warrior Units and VA locations to help Healing Heroes overcome obstacles they face. Begun in November 2010 at Bethesda Naval Medical Center (now Walter Reed National Military Medical Center), Project HERO has proven the effectives of group riding in the rehabilitation of injured servicemen and women. Cycling is important part of the recovery and rehabilitation.

GE Veterans Network employees from Minden, NV. This

is an exciting partnership that will combine the passion,

commitment, and national reach of the GE Veterans Network

with Ride 2 Recovery’s broad range of cycling-based

programs to help raise awareness and bring healing for

service members and veterans facing various health issues.

iCan Bike Camp

June 20-24 | Cost: $125 per riderLearn to ride a bike in one week! Riders attend a 75-minute session each day for five consecutive days (Monday-Friday). Riders are physically assisted and encouraged by two volunteer spotters and taught by trained professionals. Over the course of the camp, an adapted bike is adjusted to gradually introduce more instability and to help challenge the riders at their own pace. Founded in 1967 and known as Disabled Sports USA Far West since 1998, we have a rich history and a proven track record of success. In fact, we became well known throughout the country for our groundbreaking work and were instrumental in establishing Disabled Sports USA, which is now a thriving national organization with over 120 active chapters. Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada (DSNNN)

DSNNN is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that serves individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and other disabilities in the community. The DSNNN strives to create a positive understanding of Down syndrome by providing events, information, education, and awareness while advocating for full community inclusion.
