What better way to start the summer than with a parade? Keep North
Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful partnered with the city of North
Platte employees to make a float for Nebraskaland Days. We promoted
the protection of our waterways from litter, in conjunction with the
theme, “Somewhere On The Beach.” As the sign says, “Keep It Clean,
We All Live Down Stream. ” Thanks to everyone and their hard work,
we won first place for Best Themed float !
What Goes In My Bin?
Page 2
Every year the same question is always asked, “What goes in what bin?”
Tony Amos, Street and Sanitation Supervisor for the City of North Platte broke it
down for us.
In the yard waste bin: Only waste from the garden, lawn clippings, vines and
weeds.
In the curbside recycle bin: #1 & #2 plastics, aluminum, steel/tin cans, card-
board/paperboard and mixed paper. Paper must be bagged and tied to keep it
dry.
All other trash in trash bin: Small branches and twigs can be placed in trash bin
Large tree branches and sticks 10 feet or less will be picked up by city, either by lay-
ing them next to the trash bin or calling Municipal Light and Water at 535-6702.
Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for pickup. Residents with city garbage collection can, free
of charge, haul tree limbs/branches to the Transfer Station, 3320 West North Lake
Road, Mon.-Sat. 7 am to 4 pm. Loads must be properly covered. As for disposing of
electronics, monitors, televisions (tubed and non-tubed) and computers, these can be
taken to ABC Recycling or the Household Hazardous Waste Facility (every 2nd &
4th Thursday from 7am-1pm) for a cost of 30 cents per pound. Hope this helps.
“ If you have any questions, please call Keep North Platte & Lincoln County
Beautiful at 534-8100 or Municipal Light and Water at 535-6702”
And the winner is ? …. Riley Dehr. Riley was 1 of 10 high school students from around the country to be selected to serve on the national Youth Advisory Council (YAC) for Keep America Beautiful, which is sponsored through generous support of the Wrigley Company Foundation. Riley and the newly selected YAC members will provide an original point of view in assessing KAB programs, implement local service projects and will act as ambassadors and leaders for youth service in their respective communities and states. The selection decisions were based on a written application, geographic representation, grade level, and interest area (litter prevention, beautification and community greening, and waste reduction/recycling). Congratulations, Riley! We know you’ll represent Nebraska amazingly.

Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful has been blessed this summer with great community support. With the hard work of
our many supporters and community volunteers, we have collected 2.4 tons of litter, weeded and mulched Burlington Blvd. and the
Community Garden, cleaned the South Platte River , Westfield Shopping Center, Senior Center and Downtown. A big shout goes out
to our community volunteers, RSVP volunteers, Bobby Dehr and NPPHS Eco Club, Jimmy Johns, Walmart, Pepsi, Dominos, Ne-
braskaland Bank, Great Western Bank, Adams Bank, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and 1st Lutheran Church. We have had over
800 volunteers in just 3 months helping us to keep North Platte and Lincoln County beautiful, clean and green.

As summer continues the Community Garden is growing !! Lincoln School Students planted pumpkins at the
beginning of the summer. The specially treated seeds were donated by Kim Keeling, owner of Booty Farms. We
can’t wait for fall to see the pumpkins ready for harvest!
KNPLCB and Frankie the Frog were there ! Here are a few things that have been going on this summer to educate our youth.
KNPLCB staff taught the importance of recycling to support our ecosystems at Sutherland Elementary School. While doing art projects
at the Kids Fun Festival we talked with kids about reducing, recycling and reusing. During Nebraskaland Days we joined the Kids Pa-
rade and the city of North Platte in the Nebraskaland Days Parade to encourage the protection of our waterways. Everyone is responsi-
ble for packing out what they pack in!
Just a gentle reminder - Please leave all the beautiful places Mother Nature has provided us better than when you came. Mother Nature
and Keep North Platte Beautiful will Thank You !!! HAVE A GREAT SUMMER ...
